Very nice hotel and service minded staff :-). Only drawback ist the missing SPA (only open on paper) and the somewhat noisy corridor and airco in some areas. However, the front desk staff was very open finding the best fitting solution.

Housekeeping entered my friend’s room despite the DND sign turned on and another DND sign hung on the door handle. We realised it when we came back after a day of sight seeing. Worst was the room was made up half way only. It was fortunate that nothing went missing. An advice to other stayers not to leave valuables in sight even if you had the DND sign turned on.

Great location but fabric of the hotel seen better days”
Plus points are cost and location. A really good place to stay near to the main touristic parts of Beijing whilst actually being in a regular neighbourhood area with excellent local restaurants. On the negative side, the hotel has been acquired by ACCOR and the rebrand and makeover of the hotel building has been really poorly done. For example, door jam broken into the room, shower door loose, generally sloppy building work. The cleanliness of the breakfast area also needs attention. e.g. stains on the table cloths there several days in a row. A real shame as the location and general hotel are good.

Location doesn’t make up for dirty rooms and poor facilities.”
Extremely unclean rooms. We switched rooms twice and none of the 3 rooms we stayed in met our expectations. Dust everywhere and all the shower had black mold and crusty yellow buildups. Unpleasant smells filled the shower stalls and we couldn’t wait to leave. Breakfast was average at best and staff were slow to refill empty items. Definitely would not stay here again. Much better bang for your buck elsewhere.

Average stay”
We stayed at Grand Mercure Dongcheng for 4 nights. Location was okay - 10mins walk from Beixinqiao train station and 20mins walk Guijie. Other than that, there wasn’t much around so location wise isn’t the most convenient. Even though it was relatively empty at check-in, it took 15mins before they attended to us. Even though there were available staffs, nobody offered to help. The room was mediocre and old for the price. The TV wasn’t working well, toilet door couldn’t close fully and dust laid on the TV table top. When we called for help, the staff told us that the issues were normal and we can’t watch TV at night because of bad reception (???). The worst part of it was that we saw him wipe his hands (full of dust) on our bedsheets. This is probably the worst service we’ve seen. We insisted on changing a room and told the receptionist our encounter which was met with a laugh - unprofessional service for a reputable chained hotel. Average stay, can find better for the price.

Since Grand Mercure is an international chain, I would not expect less on the comfort and and quality. The bed, rooms were all up to standards. However for an international chain, we found communication with the front desk staff to be complicated as they did not have good understanding of English. We almost were charged double as they did not cancel the deposit taken from our credit cards. We were lucky to have a colleague who could speak and understand Mandarin with us for the trip. The front desk staff who did our billing was not polite and lacked customer service skills (not even a smile !). Hope this can be improved in the future.

Friendly staff , great location with supermarket just 20 steps away where you could get local fruits and grocery . Traditional breakfast , cafe just like 300m away ! Highly recommend for those who on free and easy trip

Located near long stretches of traditional streets with very interesting shops and stores. Unfortunately I was only here on a business trip and had no opportunity to explore much. Could be interesting for tourists.
