Did not enjoy”
I will start with positive, facility was clean, bathouse sauna was a nice service to be offered, be aware they have a "no tattoo" policy in the bathouse. I liked being close to Ueno park and station. The negative, I did not enjoy my stay here. As an international/English speaking guest I did not feel like it was good fit. Very minimal English speaking staff and staff are often busy, they are not able to offer much support to their guests. There was almost no English signage, leaving me to feel like I was missing a lot of information most of the time. I stayed on the female capsule floor, it is open concept with the capacity for 75 people, essentially you are sharing an open space with many people, you will hear a lot of sounds, making it difficult to have a good rest. The hotel environment was very anti-social, not good for meeting other people. Also, it was the first time I have experienced a hotel restricting your access the common areas immediately after check out. Check out was at 10am and my train was booked for 2pm, staff were willing to hold my bag but I wasnt allowed to be in the buildings common area, it was pouring rain and I had no where else to go. I have never experienced a hotel that operates this way. They also have policy that you cannot use your capsule between 10-4 everyday for cleaning, I found this policy inconvenient, I prefer an environment with less restrictions on facility use. The hotel had a small food service counter, I saw it open once during my 6 day stay.

Only if you travel light”
Place is only suitable if you travel light, stay a few days and can sleep through noise and heat. The capsule is larger than most, has a lockable cupboard which is opened with your room key. Down side is that it has only a tiny ventilation vent which barely provided any air flow. It was so warm at night that I woke up many times. The temperature of the hall is 26.0. Imagine your capsule that’s covered by a screen. Also shower facilities were not available at 4.40am so I had to leave for the airport without a shower.

Best option for a short stay ”
I was looking for somewhere near Uenokoen and I was lucky enough to find this place. The facility is great. There are onsen, sauna room, electric massage chairs, and washing machines and drying machines. All you need after a long walking day is here.

Easy access and clean”
The Smart Stay Ueno capsule hotel is very convenient as a solo traveler, with its close proximity to the Ueno station and the Keisei Skyliner station (rapid access to Narita airport). Capsules are very clean, and amenities are good! Good for 1-2 days stay.

Super location”
Comfortable, brand new capsules just 3min from Ueno station with super easy access to central Tokyo. Nice public baths free toilet amenities. Lockers in the capsules are narrow - my cabin backpack fitted partially unpacked but be prepared to repack your staff or if you have trolley luggage to tie it outside - bicycle lock might be useful if you have a larger case.

The location is very good, near ueno station Lots of food and drinks nearby, no need to worry about food and medicine The staff are kind and helpful The place is also very tidy

Good hotel but not smart”
The queue at the front desk can be very long. Even to get shoe box keys has to queue. One of the staff tries very hard to ease the queue. Kudos to him. Seen him clearing the rubbish in the onsen too. Most hardworking and polite staff. The female staff are not very polite and helpful. The onsen is quite good though.

It is pretty close to the train station but it is too troublesome that we have to change our keys for the shoes locker keys and vice versa whenever you want to go out.(ESP when it is busy at the counter). Capsule is ok, locker in capsule is great. The space for luggage not so. The capsules were not fully occupied and there weren't much space left.

Cheap, clean and compact”
It was my first experience to stay in capsule hotel of Tokyo. This place made me to satisfied with the types of stay like this. Everything was good and nice but the only one thing disappointed was noisy at night time. Maybe it's not the problem of hotel but the attitudes of the other customers, however it seems employees doesn't care the noises. That was the only thing of disappointment.

True to its name this place is so smart in so many ways. I enjoyed their common room with workstations which was convenient for me as someone who has work especially at night. Their saunas and hot bath were also a factor to recharge my tired feet from long walks in the metro especially during cold seasons. I live their capsules - so clean and well maintained
