Nice and well-located hostel”
Round 50m from the beach (Long Beach, Phraa Ae, a nice one, btw.), clean and high quality in its category. The owner offers helpful information and to avoid plastic trash, free water refill to your own flask. Good price/value ratio :-)
Thank you Imre, always very nice to have guests that are attentive and understand the philosophy of the place. I hope to see you again soon. Cheers!
Claudio is the best! ”
This place is in a great location near the beach and close to some of the best restaurants on the island. Rooms are clean and spacious. The best part about staying here is how friendly the owner is. Claudio made several great recommendations and was extremely helpful throughout my stay.
Thank you very much Conor, it was a pleasure to have you with us! Cheers!
Claudio was so friendly and accommodating! Beds were comfy, nice spacious dorm rooms, toilets and showers were clean! Air con was lovely at night. We booked our bus & boat through here too and everything went smoothly! Would definitely come back next time we’re in Koh Lanta!!
Thank you very much for your feedback Kathryn I hope to see you and Sam again, it was very nice to have you here with us. I wish you all the best for your trip! Enjoy!
Great hostel, Great host!”
My partner and I have been used to sharing a double room for most of our traveling so we decided to try the hostel vibe for a week when visiting Koh Lanta and we were anything but disappointed! The Zoo has a great atmosphere and met about 15 people in our week their who were all lovely! We ended up travelling for 3 weeks with 2 English girls we met their and now one of them is my wedding singer haha. Claudio the owner is a great host and is there to answer any questions you have. He is FANTASTIC at cooking eggs and was very attentive with breakfast always making sure you had what you want. The hostel itself was exactly what you paid for. It was clean, had hot water and comfy beds. Basic but great value for money. The air-con is only on from 6pm until 10am which is advised straight away. There is no reason to stay in your room anyway , it's Thailand...go explore. Thanks Claudio for a great time and your wonderful eggs haha ( I miss that coleslaw and Marta the cat haha) xx
Thank you very much Saley, it was a pleasure to have you here with us! I hope to see you again next time you're visiting Lanta! Ciao!
Well Located Place with a Good Value for Money”
For the price of a hostel, you can get your own room at Hostaria. Is conveniently located and the value for money is excellent. I would recommend this to anyone on a budget who wants a bit of privacy and wants to stay close to the main beaches on Lanta .
Good bang for your buck”
Hostaria 239 (Hahz-tuh-RRREE-uh) is a small guesthouse located at Pra Ae Beach (also called Long Beach) on the beach side of the main road, almost half way down the island. A 5-minute walk from the guesthouse puts you on the beach. Beach is long and wide, and doesn’t feel crowded even during high season. Sand is clean. The water is reasonably clear and never cold (almost too warm at times). The bottom is sandy and evenly graduated out to sea. (One can walk out 75+ yds. and still be only chest deep. In short, great beach for children, swimming, and relaxation. (I purchased a beverage at a nearby resort, and was also able to enjoy their beach-side pool and fresh-water showers). Nightly sunsets can be stunning. Next door to Hostaria is May’s Kitchen; a friendly, and popular (if not a bit pricy, like most places on the island) eatery (Western BBQ and Thai). Other businesses (massage, medical clinic, 7-11, and others are very nearby or at a short walk) Lodging: Very much Thai style, it is rustic, but in essentially good repair, clean, and secure, if not somewhat cluttered. (Without being intrusive, house resident “Claudio” keeps things safe and running smoothly. He has the information guests need, and facilitates the most competitive prices. (Claudio is also a trained Italian chef who is known to bake-his-own-bread and prepare the occasional gourmet meal for guests). Hostaria is not the Hilton. It is the basic bed, clean sheet, pillows, and towel sort of place. (You probably won’t need a top sheet or cover, but they are available at your request). There is a fan in your room, and fans in the sitting areas. Modern electrical outlets are abundant, grounded, and found everywhere. Wifi is good. Two bathrooms (western style toilets) with showers, but alas, only three guest rooms, so never a problem. The old adage, “you get what you pay for” holds true, except in this instance, I believe one gets a whole lot more.
Relaxed, Family-style Stay with Great Owner”
For a relaxed, budget B&B stay in Koh Lanta, Hostaria 239 is fantastic. The place is small (3 rooms) and you feel like you are staying at a friend's house. Claudio, the owner is very friendly/personable and is full of local knowledge and travel tips/advice. The location on the main road, running through the middle of Long Beach is very convenient and close to the beach and restaurants, bars, etc.
Great owner. Definitely come back. ”
The owner was extremely helpful and friendly. He provides useful tips and offered homemade lasagna one night which was great. Prices are more than reasonable and there's a cool area in the front to lounge around. He plans to expand his hotel in the next few years so I will definitely come back for that.
Nice accomodation in family environment”
I enjoyed my stay at Hostaria 239 Budget Bed and Breakfast very well. Claudio (the owner) is ver friendly, attends to his guests' wishes and helps with word and deed. For breakfast his omelettes are most popular. The rooms are basic, clean, furnished with a big bed and enough space for your belongings. Very recomendable accommodation!
Beware the air-condition only switched on between 5pm to 10am.”
I booked 3 nights in this hostel and after 2 nights I left. Claudio is a decent guy however he have a mind if his own. So many house rules, not to use water excessively, no pissing in the shower, no food and drink allowed and not allowed to use the fridge which is located in the hostel living room area. However the most I regret booking this hostel is the AC. Koh lanta is a very warm place and the AC in the hostel is only switched on from 5pm. The bedroom is like a sauna 5mins after the AC is switched off in the morning and if you are thinking of going to your bed after going to the beach in the afternoon you will not be able to do that as you will literally melt in the bedroom, its that hot so you either hang around in the Luke warm living room area or you might as well just stay and find a shade on the beach and sleep there. Walls are paper thin you will hear traffics and music for on next door neighbour bars. I do not recommend this hostel however koh lanta is a beautiful place you just need to find a better place to stay
Thank you for your kind words, we are a backpacker place and you were not a backpacker, I'm not surprised you didn't like to stay with us. BTW the A/C is on at 6:00PM and off at 10:00AM, do not give misleading informations please. Enjoy your trip in Thailand and tell to ALL your friends about us please!
I usually never leave reviews but I had to this time! We stayed at Claudio’s for three nights and absolutely loved it!! Hostel is quite basic but Claudio was the nicest host ever, he was helpful and friendly. The sandwiches were the best we’ve had so far. We actually came back to the hostel just to order the clubsandwich. Definitely worth the money and will come back next time I’m on Lanta. Thanks for everything Claudio!
Thank you very much Rene, it was very nice to have you here, I do really hope to be your choice for the next time you'll visit Koh Lanta. Enjoy your trip! Ciao!
The guest and owner is a very fun, outgoing and helping guy. I really enjoy my time over there. I would definitely recommend it and be back any time when visiting Koh Lanta
It was really a pleasure to have A. Thank you very much!
A bit like living with your estranged pedantic uncle. So long as you don't piss in the shower or leave any lights on, you're going to be fine and probably play a lot of Xbox.
Nice to see that helping you out by lending you money because you were broke and need to travel all the way to Phuket to get your CC sorted has helped on get a good review out of you. I'll surely do it again. PS: someone of my guests like to play XBOX someone of them like to get shitfaced drinking San Miguel Light...
Claudio was a great host and was a pleasure to chat with during my stay! It was very quiet because of low season, but it was very clean and a nice place to stay. Would recommed this hostel, especially to those traveling in groups or pairs!
Than you very much for being with us, it was really a pleasure and we hope to have you again next time you'll decide to visit Koh Lanta. Have safe travels!
