Great room and the Food got better”
Spent 5 fine nights at Fragrance Ruby in Geylang, Singapore. Still the best combination of price, room and location in Singapore!!! The rooms remain small, but clean and comfortable with good air con and great hot water. The Staff at the front desk recognized us from previous visits and seemed genuinely happy that we were there. Singapore is working on covering many of the walk ways in town to protect people during rain storms and now the 10 minute walk from the SMRT is almost completely covered. Our favorite food place has been rebuilt over the past 5 months and is cleaner and better than ever, with an expanded menu. Another couple from Australia joined us for this trip and they agreed that the Ruby is a great place to stay. We already have reservations for our visit next January for a week. THE place to stay on a small budget!
Basic, Affordable Accommodation in an Expensive Ci”
Singapore has been getting more and more expensive, and finding good accommodation at reasonable rates is getting tougher. Fragrance Ruby offers a very comfortable place to sleep for a very reasonable price. It is much better than the surrounding hotels (Hotel 81, etc.) that offer similar prices. The location is surrounded by public bus stops which take you to the city or pretty much anywhere you might want to go, and the MRT station is a ten minute walk. There are lots of local food places that offer cheap but delicious food. There are even some famous restaurants nearby (No Signboard is 10 minutes walk away, and a few other specialty shops). Geylang is a vibrant area, with lots to offer for the adventure traveller. Not really recommended for those seeking a relaxation hotel, but if budget and location are important considerations then you can't really go wrong with Fragrance.
new name ”
when we booked this hotel as the old name "Frangrance Ruby" but we arrived there, this hotel was change its name already as "Ibis Budget Frangrance Ruby". It was so surprise for us. It is in the renovation process. Around this hotel, there is indian restaurant and 7-11 convinced store. The distance between Mrt Aljunied and the hotel was 5-7 mins. Inside the room, there was hair dryer, shampoo, soap liquid, 2 drink water, electric kettle, towels, tv. if we hava a chance for backing to Singapore, we will stay here.
Low oriced and cose to SMRT and great eateries!”
We spent some nights at the Fragrance RUBY in January and were impressed with he location, staff, food availability and PRICE! It is 10 minutes to the SMRT and then to anywhere in Singapore and within 3 minutes if several very good eating places, Chinese, Indian, seafood, etc.... The rooms are small, but clean and comfortable with hot water, free WiFi and cold air con. The minibar was nice to have to keep a few cold drinks and snacks. The staff was very good and treated us like family. The Geylang area, although in a 'questionable' part of Singapore, was very safe and clean. It was not our first stay at RUBY and most certainly will not be our last!!
Fragrance Ruby is basic, but a great place to stay”
When I travel in transit, I just want cheap, clean and easy. This is my 2nd stay at a Fragrance hotel and I liked both. The hotels are relatively close to the airport. They are very cheap by Singapore standards, they are clean and feel safe. The staff are super friendly and helpful -- moreso than some expensive hotels I've stayed at. The rooms at Ruby ARE small and basic -- it's a bed, and a very basic shower without a curtain, but I don't want to write that as a con. It's also not a pro -- it's just the reality of budget hotels in Singapore. Actually, I prefer not having the shower curtain. It's a VERY tiny bathroom -- smaller than the ones we have here in Japan -- and the last thing I want is some scuzzy shower curtain clinging to my leg like a moldy infested piece of saran wrap. If that image doesn't convince you of the merits of going sans shower curtain, then you'll probably want to shell out the $100+ required for a hotel outside of Geylang. The neighborhood -- Geylang -- is also a bit...errr...colorful. The next road -- Lorong 18 -- is a red light hot spot, and on the corner restaurants you see the girls and their pimps all over the place. Again, not a pro or a con. Just the reality of that area. But Geylang is also where a large population of migrant workers are located, so it's actually a refreshing escape from the uber-sanitized downtown area, which is kind of like Disneyland. And just like Disneyland, it's nice to visit, but you don't want to sleep in Cinderella's Castle. Geylang is cheap for food, too. I grabbed a large Tiger beer and a mug full of ice and sat watching the people walk by --$6. This is in contrast to the $15 I paid for a pint of brew on Clarke Quay. Anyway, I'm a solo traveler on the road about 3 months a year, so I'm only in my hotel to sleep. Ruby was all that I needed and more. I'll definitely stay there again.
Small, yet clean and cozy rooms. Near to the bus station. ”
Got the chance to stay at Ibis Ruby (formerly Fragrance Hotel - Ruby). Along Geylang, so expect 24 hours shops everywhere. Food place is very nearby. Convenience stores are nearby. Room is quite small. No cabinet and tables. Just the bed and a small stool chair. However, aircon is cold. We had to turn it off or put it at 25 degree celcius every night. Hot shower is available. There is smell at the toilet, but acceptable. :(
Dear Robert, Thank you for your excellent review for our hotel, as well as correctly pointing out that the name of our hotel has recently changed from Fragrance Hotel - Ruby, to ibis budget - Ruby. We are delighted you have loved our hotel's proximity to a wide range of amenities, such as affordable dining options and convenience stores, as well as our excellent airconditioning unit. As Singapore is a small city state, rooms in economy-tiered hotels are not spacious, but they are functional and have all the necessary features to provide guests with a comfortable rest. Our rooms have been carefully designed to balance comfort and affordability. I have submitted your feedback regarding the washroom to the Housekeeping Supervisor for his action. Best Regards, Thaddaeus Guest Experience Executive

My Singapore stay”
During my visit with friends we stayed at Fragrance Hotel Ruby which located Geylang and its walking distance from Aljunied MRT.First thing in mind I thought this hotel just like any other budget hotel and hey, to my surprised the moment i was at the receptionist I was given a friendly greeting and treatment. As I was entered the room, it equipped with DVD Player in every room (I booked 2 rooms and next room was a friend of mine) The room clean and I can feel comfort stay in this room. Not to worry about security because each floor guarded by cctv. Then hop on to find my food and its very easy to find halal food as it walking distance and I can also find mosque nearby the hotel.Overall my stayed in Singapore, I would recommend this hotel to my family and friends and the rate of the Hotel is reasonable. Service quality they render to me beyond my expectation.
You get what you pay for”
The Fragrance Ruby Hotel is located in Singapore’s red light district, Geylang. This wasn’t a problem for us, but for others it might be so take that into consideration. On the brightside, there are many hawker centres open late into the night (some even 24/7) so it’s easy to grab a bite. It’s also close to 7/11, and many forms of public transport, which is helpful. Our room was quite small, with the shower and toilet too close in proximity that water from the shower splashed on the toilet as you showered. Staff were friendly and generous with requests, which is a huge advantage the hotel has. We appreciated everything that the reception and cleaners did for us. At the end of the day you get what you pay for. It’s pretty cheap for Singapore’s standards, but if you are wanting to live it up try somewhere else. We are happy with the Fragrance Ruby Hotel, ultimately because it suited our needs.
Dear Texkuv, Thank you for your detailed review of your stay with us at Fragrance Hotel - Ruby! We are delighted to hear that we have been able to exceed your expectations during your stay with us, especially with the standard of service my colleagues have provided! You are right that dining options are available, in a variety of styles and settings, at almost all hours of the day! You have been a fantastic guest as well, and we would love to have you back with us in the near future. Yours Truly, Thaddaeus Guest Experience Executive
SMALL BUT COZY PLACE”
It was our first trip to Singapore. We went there in May. We chose Gaylang for the budget and despite its being known for the dark area, many fellows who have stayed here said there was nothing bad about it at all. The room was pretty small, but full of liveliness. I REALLY LOVE THE COLORS ON THE WALL AND THE GRAPHICS AROUND THE BED. It is such a stylish hotel. Bathroom was very small, but we didn't need it that big anyway. So we choose Fragrance Ruby for the new and nice look of the hotel, and also the price. At first we got two room on the same floor, but one of them was full with cigarette smell so we asked the hotel for help. They changed the room for us but it was on a different floor, so we had to split. Bad thing is that the elevator takes you only to the floor on which your room is. But that was not a big deal. We actually arrived before check-in time, and could drop our luggage at the hotel before going back there again after lunch. Overall was satisfying.
a great hotel in a hinky location”
This hotel is very good (surprisingly for me!). A real gem in the middle of the red light district of Geylang. One of the cheapest hotels in Singapore, it was a pleasant surprise that everything in this hotel was really good. Very pleasant and helpful staff, squeaky clean rooms (quite small but well worth the money you're paying for it), free WiFi and computers for public use in the lobby, decent WiFi in the rooms (it was not free though - 10SGD for 24 hours). It's a bit far from the main Singapore tourist spots, but still accessible from nearby Aljunied MRT station which is a 10-minute walk away. The only catch is that the houses across the street from the hotel are all brothels (you can tell from the big red house numbers), and from afternoon going into the evening the street is filled with girls plying their trade. But they won't bother you - just go about your business and they will go about with theirs. Definitely do not get this hotel if you are travelling with kids. But if you're travelling as a couple or as a group of adults, the hotel itself is one of the best choices for staying in Singapore on a budget. It's much better in many aspects than some hotels in the main city that cost twice as much, really, and with much more polite and eager-to-assist staff than most budget hotels. Highly recommended!
25 nights in 2 years!”
We are completely in love with Fragrance Ruby Hotel. It is not 'flash' by any means, but provides everything that you need for a good stay. No pool, spa or weight room, but a cold mini fridge, hot water, cold Aior Con and easy access to Aljunied SMRT then everywhere that Singapore is, close to some great restaurants and eateries, with small convenience stores near by. Good selection of International News, Sports and Movie channels on TV. We will continue to return for low priced, clean and friendly lodging accommodations in Singapore.
comfort and nice”
Fragrance Hotel Ruby is located in Geylang lorong 20, hotel staff polite and helpfull, can get varities of all kinds of foods like indian, chinese etc with afforable price just a distance walk from hotel, taxi can be order by hotel or just outside hotel to all places in singapore. the hotel room is clean and comfort should be worth booking on agoda.
Best value for your money”
I have stayed on 2 occasion because of my early flight out of Singapore and late nite flight into Singapore. I live in Bintan island and have to catch ferry to and from Bintan and Singapore. My stay is less than 12 hours but as i mentioned in my previous review, i am very satisfied with Fragrance Hotel RUBY. I will certainly recommend this hotel to any of my friends and acquaintances for it is worth every cents of your money staying in this hotel. Keep up the good work, Ruby, you will thrive!👍. And again, thank you, Agoda, for your service.. 👏
Our stay is up to our expectation”
I will choose Ruby Hotel to stay if I visit Singapore again in future. The room is not so big but clean and comfortable. The staff in reception are nice , friendly and helpful. I had four pieces of luggages which were quite big in size yet the staff in the reception helped me to transfer them to my room on the first floor. The location of the hotel is good only 7 mins walk to MRT station from which you can go anywhere you like in Singapore. Or you can take Bus 100 to St. Tsosa Island As what I pay for the rent to the hotel it is overvalued as compared to other hotle of the same standard. It is really a good hotel for budget tourists
cheap, no-frills hotel”
As others have written before, this hotel is in the red-light section of Singapore. Some floors are reserved for "transit" customers who pay by the hour. Keep that in mind if you are with family or simply if that kind of stuff bothers you. This does not affect safety, though: the area is and feels really safe. For me the only true negative point about the area is that you won't find any shop much larger than a 7-11, so if you need, say, contact lens liquid, buy that downtown before heading back to the hotel. For amenities: Rooms are really small, barely large enough for a suitcase. No fridge. The shower has no curtain and generally no hot water. None of that bothers me, but paying Sing. $5 for 2h of wifi ($10 for 10h) does. :-) The staff is friendly and helpful to the extent of their ability (most are foreign workers, recently arrived in Singapore, and don't really know the city). The metro (Aljunied, same line as the Airport, Bugis, City Hall, Raffles, and the Science Center) is fairly close, less than 5' of slow walk away. Anyway, any point in the city is at most S$15-20 away. The other great point about the location is of course the food. Geylang is famous for that. A lot of professional people from the "nicer" parts of Singapore come to Geylang to enjoy great, cheap food "despite all the red light activity around" (yeah, right!). Really fantastic street food along Geylang Rd, from Lorong 6 through 24, really cheap, at all times of the day and night (most places typically close only for an hour or 2, not all at the same time). A couple of places have a fenced terrace and obviously cater more to tourists, at a higher price, but food is not necessarily better, though, but you may fin
An excellent budget hotel in Singapore”
I always stay at the Fragrance Hotel Ruby during my short trips to Singapore. The hotel is easily accessible by MRT from the airport, and from it, the city centre can easily be reached by bus. There are many good eating places in the area of the hotel. The room is cosy and comfortable, but I found the tub in the bathroom a bit too small. All in all, however, Fragrance Hotel Ruby gives you good value for your money.
Great location, perfect place for foods.”
Our room was very tidy, but no fridge which was not a big problem. We loved it during our stay at Ruby. Staff were very friendly, and helpful. Good local food with a good price. Aslo, It's close to Aljunied MRT stattion that you can go to.Overall, we had our times in Singapore. Highly recommended Ruby. Thank you for your good service. Will come back for more.
Quick and Easy”
I don't know how many times I have given this hotel a review ,it's innumerable but I certainly don't mind because it deserves it. If you have a day or so in transit through Changi this is the place to stay,a quick trip on the MRT and you are there, the reception is expedient and efficient and the room is comfortable,I can honestly say that I have never ever seen Wi Fi so fast as Fragrance Ruby. A very short walk and you are on Geylang Road where you have Chinese and Muslim food,Geylang is a red light district but it is of no concern, there's nothing in your face and I personally have no problems with it whatsoever. I have stayed at Fragrance Ruby off and on for a year and will endeavour to do so,may I say Well Done!
Great Location and Easy on the budget”
This is one of the best accomodation I have stayed to, I'm a frequent traveler and experienced quite a number of hotels, and I could definitely say that this is one of the best, the hotel is accessible its only a 7-10 minute walk from the aljunied mrt station and just 15 mins. away from changi as well, plus the fact that the cost if the room is pretty cheap compared to some hotels near the mrt stations. The room that we stayed in is small for 2 persons but considering the price we got it for is just right, the room is clean, fresh clean towels and linens and when you request to make up your room they even change the sheets too, so you're assuered that you'll have fresh towels and linens each day, from the outside of the hotel you can already see that its newly renovated and all the facilities are new and in a working condition, as for the staff all of them are friendly, accomodating and helpful to the guest...im looking forward into staying to this hotel again next year! I give this hotel 10 out of 10! Kudos to the staff and management of Fragrance Hotel Ruby...
