Room with a VIEW”
This hotel is perched on a hill. There are at least two possible ways to walk there. One is via the Lake but you have to drag your luggage up a steep slope. Even walking up without any luggage takes a lot of effort. The other is doable via the road from the Kawaguchiko Station. Use googlemaps to guide you through the narrow lanes up the slopes but this route is less intimidating than the one via the lake. Of cos, the easiest way to the hotel is to ask the kind staff at the Tourist Information at the station to contact the hotel. The pickup time is 1400 hrs so you need to wait if you are early. This hotel pays attention to many things. They will set up the futon bed for you, there is hot water prepared in the electric kettle and the room is warmed up all ready for you. When you enter your room, you feel that you are in such a serene environment that you could just sit there and take in the sight of the beautiful lake that is right before your eyes. Unfortunately Mt Fuji is behind us and can't be seen. You can use the public onsen or book the private onsen for you and your family at ¥2200 for 45 min. They provide for every need. We chose to leave at 4 pm the following day and the hotel kindly brought us to the Station. Wish we had booked more days.

Beautiful Ryokan”
We had a room with private tub and it was a huge and beautiful. The dinner and breakfast were exquisite and they even gave us complimentary drinks for our anniversary/belated honeymoon. The Ryokan is right next to the cable car and across from the "pleasure boat" dock so it's very convenient. The lobby and bar are also very tastefully designed, with a fantastic view of the lake. The sunset view is especially beautiful. We enjoyed our stay tremendously.

Despite the hotel is not facing directly towards MOUNT FUJI, it's facilities, hot spring, very friendly staff and cleaniness definitely make a par with others whom charging double the fee, this is a hotel we must re-visit again.

We don’t understand how this place is listed as a 3-star hotel when it far exceeded our expectations! The lobby, lounge and room were well appointed. We got the room with a private onsen and it was huge. The kaiseki dinner spread was incredible, and so was the luscious breakfast set. The staff were also very polite and accommodating. It was definitely our best stay in Japan this time around! The only downside was that it has no view of Mt Fuji, but the expansive view of Lake Kawaguchiko more than made up for it.

Best service hands down!”
We stayed in two ryokans/hotels in the same week in Kawaguchiko. The other one (La Vista) was also great, BUT Rakuyu went beyond and above our expectations in terms of service. From the welcome staff, to the attendants, drivers, and the bilingual personnel who surpassed answering our questions; they all were not only friendly, but very much accommodating! This hotel is much less commercial than others that deal with multiple times the amount of guests. There is much more personalized service and familiarity. It’s not completely modern or new, but it’s very clean and has many updated and modern features. We stayed in a “more than 7 years old” room. It had beautiful views of the lake, very clean, had several updated features/machines. I kept looking for the thermostat in the walls to increase the temperature a bit, and I couldn’t find it. For a moment, I was afraid we couldn’t control the temperature in our room. I called the service line, and the bilingual attendant was immediately at my door. He showed me how to control the heat through the remote control (duh! I’m in Japan!!!). Just a little example of some of the more modern features of this more traditional hotel. Thank YOU to all the Rakuyu personnel who made our stay very special!

Apart from the uphill location...”
The ryokan is located a bit up a hike from the main hall. Not far at all, but pretty steep. Having said that, the value for money is definitely a plus, especially in expensive Kawaguchiko. Shuttle service is prompt, staffs are courteous, Japanese dinner course & breakfast are lovely & plentiful.

The breakfast was nice, staff friendly and amenities was great. View of the lake was good. Only thing was the wall not that soundproof can hear people walking around all night upstairs and futons was too hard.
