Lovely place great location and value for money”
free airport pickup, friendly staff, reasonable room size and a lot happening of activities that we could join in everyday. Being our first visit to Sydney it turned out to be a great option with its good location and resources we could get. There are a lot of long stay people in the house so it sometime feel like an apartment!

We certainly love Funkhouse Backpackers! Natalia, the hostel manager is an angel, and the staff were all so nice and helpful! Only 300m away from the train station, lots of affordable cafes/ diners around, clean, complete facilities, even the sheets were of good quality. We're really happy with our stay at Funkhouse :)

wonderful as a first timer trying backpacking”
Check in was smooth and fast. Staffs are all very friendly and willing to help out and guide me if i have any questions. Free wifi all over the hotel even in your own room. Free breakfast to keep you fuel for the day. Have daily activities to ensure that the night is not boring at all. All in all it is a very good experience and i am comfortable with it. The only bad thing that i can recall is that the bar opposite my room is noisy at night but the noise stop at 8pm and starts only after 6pm therefore it is not a big issue. They also provide free airport transfer to them if you stay over 4 nights but if you want to head back to the airport it costs $12. Also they are very friendly and will provide you things if you need them such as power adapter (subject to availability).

room was quite big for 4 people, location is very convenient, a lot of cafes, bars and restaurants around. staff is friendly and helpful. however, no airconditioner was in the room and if the window was open, it was very noisy at night.

If you want to relax definitely Kings cross is not the perfect area. But if you are starting in Sydney and want to meet people and being near city center, it’s a cool place to stay.

Basic But clean and friendly”
The room was clean, but small. Good shelf/safe box (own Lock needed)Lot's of offers and freebies each now. Nights out with cheap drinks. Free SIMcard and offer booklet for local area. Free wifi if you stand outside on street. They give you a continous 1hour free internet session, which is also handy. Staff very friendly, who like to have a laugh and wind people up in good humor.

Ok location”
The hostel is average and is in the 'old' red light district of Sydney, although there is still evidence of it going on. We didn't feel particularly safe walking out at night as there are a lot of 'strange' people lurking about. The breakfast was good and you could help yourself to as much toast and cereal as you liked! The hostel is very close to Kings Cross station. It takes 20-30 minutes to walk into the CBD. Staff weren't very friendly and I don't think they clean the rooms as on departure we had to strip the beds! Overpriced hostel for what you get.

No cleanliness..Only good for location..no facilities ”
The worst thing about the hostel is the pathetic smell in the corridors and rooms. The rooms need renovation. Cleanliness needs to be improved. The rooms have no ventilation and with only fan available the rooms are like an oven and it's difficult to sleep at night. Shared bathroom facilities needs improvement too. For solo travelers who intend to just sleep for few hours in room this hostel is good as it is a few min walk to Kings Cross station and all the nightlife and cheap bars and restaurants. Otherwise, the rooms are not comfortable at all. But if you just want to enjoy the nightlife with a limited budget for accommodation then this is not a very bad option.

Perfectly adequate for the low rate, helpful staff and general cleanliness. Showers weren't overly nice, but sufficient. Fine for an overnight stay.
