A true oasis in Bali.”

We're familiar with coming to Bali as a family. One of us is a Yoga teacher. We normally stay in Ubud but this time we craved some quiet, as Ubud is so congested and crazy now. Walking is hard on the streets with a 4 year old and a 9 year old - Taxi's end up just getting stuck in traffic, and scooters are fun but very dangerous with the kids on board. We stumbled across this place on agoda.com and decided to take a bit of a chance. After a long and very winding road from Ubud ( 2.5 hours ), getting lost a long the way etc we discovered a true gem. The staff where so calm and the place had a very relaxed quality. We stayed up in a beautiful bungalow with each window looking out into the forest. The staff were so calm, well spoken and thoughtful. The pool was an absolute treat for our boys too..Massive and with a stunning view. After a few days we realized we could visit the other ' campus ' down on the beach and took the free shuttle down to the beach. The food, prepared from locally grown ingredients and in their own garden , was simple, clean and very nutritious. We were just so happy here. Nothing at all pretentious, nothing overtly ' western new age ' . Just a beautiful vision to give travelers a deep and resentful peace while helping the local community. I also felt a deep level a relief knowing that our financial input was going back into the local schools and community. Not just being used to further expand and over commercialize the stunning island of Bali, which to be honest is really struggling under the weight of expansion and greedy western developments. We will recommend to all our friends coming here, and have begun planning taking a Yoga retreat here soon with the whole family.

We had booked this retreat after reading an article in a travel magazine. It is a very beautiful place. As close to paradise as you can get. We attended yoga, something we never did. It was lovely. We will be back.

Very disappointing”

This 'resort' is not suitabel for families with young children. Also, the pictures that are shown on Agoda, are from the beach resort. We got a room in the mountain resort, which is a 20 minute drive away, and has a totally different vibe and doesn't look that nice! We booked for 6 nights, but left after the first night. It isný cosy, but more importantly; it's not a safe place for kids!

great 'vacation' from traveling”

location, healthy food, communal dining

This was such a nice 'vacation from our vacation'. We stopped here a few nights to rest and relax and not worry about a think, as everything is taken care of for you there. We met some nice people in the communal dining area and had some great buffet meals too. I took a walk to their beach property, which was interesting going through the local villages on the way.

Love the pool and the healthy meals here. Staff are friendly and attentive. All city dwellers should give it a try (your may not like it), but it is great place for body, mind, soul cleansing. We met a great retired couple from Germany, they stayed here for 4 months!!!

rural setting, the massage and the food!

My wife and I spent 5 nights at Abasan and had a most wonderful time. We didn't do much other than enjoy the beautiful setting, massages and the lovely pool. The staff were friendly and the kitchen creates amazing lunches and dinners with own grown organic produce. Abasan is run as a NPO....providing employment for the locals and profits go to supporting the local community. A perfect place for sustainable travelling.

Quiet Location”

Views,

my husband and i stayed at the abasan for 2 nights. the hotel is set up on a hill and the views are amazing. we did pay for the bungalow that had views of the valley and mountains (which was more expensive) however we were given the attached family bungalow. we did not mind at the time as there were only 4 other guest and the bungalows are so far apart, you hardly hear anyone. they have a big pool with stunning views. the staff were extremely lovely as well. however the food was really bad. i am assuming the reason was because there was not a big group so they did not have their usual chef?? we did have a day trip to the beach resort and the food there was fantastic, the resort was fully booked. as nice as this place is, it is not for those who dont like creepy crawlies. the bathroom was an open air bathroom whit a bamboo stick for a shower. at night the floor was covered in huge ants and their crawled into the room as well. we had mosquito nets but the managed to get into the bed and onto us. that was slightly annoying. there was also a nest of some flying insect near the shower so everytime you turned the shower on, a swarm surrounded you. but overall it was an experience but i would not do it again.

Comfort stay for north of Bali”

Quite / Organic Food

I spent 5 days in the north coast of Bali, 3 nights in Tejakular and 2 nights in Tulamben. Honest speaking, this hotel is the not easy to find. But it's really good as a 'Retreat', very few people will come here and you have a chance to book a 5.5 hours SPA. The food from the kitchen is very fresh and tasty. Juice even better! It's a good place for you to forget something and enjoy life.

Beautiful Scenery and Great Food”

Amazing room and great view and vegetarian food

We chose this place for the vegetarian food because we have not had much luck finding any in this part of South East Asia. The food definitely worth it although I would recommend ordering a la carte rather than getting the buffet which was quite expensive and not as good. When we were there it was a very quite time so the restaurant at the mountain location was being renovated. The atmosphere was amazing and the bungalow was great although there were a lot of ants all over the floor both inside and around the outside bathroom. The hot water also only lasted for a very short time. The swimming pool was amazing but I think it would be good to confirm all the amenities before booking because the pool at the ocean location was closed while we were there and one lady we met came for the yoga classes but the instructor was not the one mentioned on the website. The location is quite far from any of the tourists attractions but it is great if you want to just relax and spend some time in paradise.

Peaceful retreat nestled in jungle like vegetation”

Away from the hustle and bustle of the coast

After initial reservations we loved this place, it is not your average resort but is quite comfortable and has a delightful pool overlooking the sea. The restaurant serves vegetarian meals but if you give notice that you would like chicken or fish the staff are happy to arrange this. Having said that, the vegetarian meals were very good with most vegetables grown in the retreat's own garden. Staff are very friendly and accommodating and are happy to show you around the garden if you are interested. Profits from the retreat and the beach retreat located on the beachfront at Tejakula are used to assist the local community and local villagers are employed and trained and have the opportunity to progress, for instance one of the staff members, Made, started in the garden 4 years ago and has progressed to front of house. If you don't crave the bright lights and like peace and tranquility you will enjoy the retreat. There is a shuttle bus which runs on demand between the mountain and beach resort if you need a change of scenery.
