World class rooms with excellent staff and service”
We happened on this gem when travelling through Sri Lanka and wanting to stay around Unawatuna on a beach. We booked for two nights and srayed for four! The pictures do not do this lovely hotel justice! We arrived and were not overly happy with the room I had booked online, so the fabulous GM, Dileepa fixed our world, and we ended up with a gorgeous corner suite hanging over the ocean! Totally world class for such small money ( when compared to travel in other countires ). Breakfast was included, and they do a first class job of that as well. We ended up with room service a couple of times, and that too excelled! All the staff is a delight! Thank you Garton's Cape for looking after us so well!
great stay in garton's cape hotel!”
this hotel will not disappoint you. beforehand we were going through the pictures, thinking 'is it really going to be that beautiful?' and trust me: it is! the rooms are spacious, bright, and clean. the beds are big and comfortable and the room has both ac and a fan. the bathroom is stylish with a super big walk-in shower: perfect! we had chosen the room facing the ocean, so the views were outstanding (also, the rooms facing the road/lagoon are probably quite noisy, as there is also a train going by every now and then). the pool is not big, but that was ok for us. the staff is super friendly as well, from the drivers to the clearners and from the receptionists to the waiters: everyone was always helpful. the food is of very high quality, and there is a lot of choice. yes, it's more expensive than other restaurants, but it's still not thát expensive, and it's good value for money. there are not many things (shops/restaurants) within walking distance, but there are plenty of tuk tuks right outside and a roundtrip to unawatuna or mirissa is ~1800 lkr (~10 eur). there are also drivers working for the hotel, which is more convenient (driving in ac car and you can arrange with the driver to pick you up from somewhere, or they can wait for you), but it's a bit more expensive. for us it was 4000 lkr roundtrip to galle (~22 eur). definitely worth it though! all in all, i think this hotel is currently one of the best hotels you can get in this price range and we are super happy we went here!
Value for Money”
Garton's Cape doesnt tick all the boxes. However, when you consider what you are paying you will be more than satisfied. Staff are friendly. Breakfast is good and the positioning is fantastic to get to the turtle sanctuary, surf beaches or in to Galle.
Great location, beautiful view over the ocean. But I would only stay there with one of the sea-view rooms. Its not much around the hotel, but easy to take bus/tuk tuk to other restaurants or beaches. To merissa is about 20min, Unawatuna about 25min. We were thinking about staying closer to uawatuna, but solo glad we didn't. Mirissa is the closest nicest place to go for eating and drinking. The food is good and variety, but far from the best food we had in Sri Lanka, its anyways for us a bit boring to always eat at the hotel. Friendly staff, some not the best in english.
beautiful hotel with amazing Sri Lanka hospitality”
a beautiful time was had. Service was amazing and everything was so good. a shirt tuk tuk ride to Mirissa beach and amazing dinner selection there as well as great beach for surfering. great private beach at hotel and great service at the beach.
Beautiful location, lovely staff”
We had a lovely time here, it was a great way to end our trip. We stayed in the Ocean Deluxe room which had amazing views of the beach, pool and lagoon. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Especially the manager who went out of his way to make sure our stay was as pleasant as possible. The bed was also the softest one we experienced in Sri Lanka! The only minor draw back was probably the food, it was nice, but we had better food at the other hotels we stayed at on our trip. Also the bar fridge wasn't very cold. One thing to note is the hotel is in Ahangama Bay which is a 20-25 minute Tuk Tuk ride to Unawatuna, 10 minute ride to Welligama, 30 minute ride to Galle and 20 minute ride to Mirissa.
A honeymoon room”
the room we stayed in has the best view of the indian ocean. it comes with a private beach and a swimming pool. the staff there was the most helpful throughout our 3 nights; helped us booked a private yoga lesson and gave us recommendations. it is only about 30mins away from Galle, and 20mins away from Mirissa. If you prefer to stay in a place not packed with tourist, this is the place!
Newly opened, fantastic beach hotel”
This hotel in Ahangama just opened in late May 2013, and we were so glad to have tried it despite the lack of reviews online. Fantastic service, there is a pool and lifeguard on duty. Direct access to a nice private beach. We had booked the Ocean Suite with a balcony and Jacuzzi overlooking the sea - worth every penny. The room was spacious and we absolutely loved the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the ocean. Breakfast was continental (albeit a very good one), no Sri Lankan option
Beautiful hotel and views”
The hotel was beautiful and had amazing views. The staff were also very friendly. However, the hotel is not as child friendly as it appears on their website or on Agoda. For example, baby sitting services were not available as standard, and when the staff tried to organise a babysitter they quoted a very high price which we decided to reject. The private beach has rough seas and there were several railings which a small child could easily get through (and potentially fall from significant heights). We had a lovely stay, but if you are choosing this hotel specifically for it's child friendly credentials, I would perhaps think again.
Great stay at Gartons cape. Beatiful view, comfortable rooms, wonderful pool and small little beach. Excellent service and reliable wifi!
Great infrastructure and location”
This hotel has good service, a beautiful swimming pool with sea view, a small beach in the backyard and an amazing breakfast buffet - but the menu and quality of food at lunch and dinner are poor, especially for vegetarians like us. The room is big, clean and comfy bed. The gym is not nice, a tiny room packed with big equipments - it would be much better if moved to the upper floor where the ping pong table is settle. The hotel is located on a busy major road, so there is a consistent traffic noise.
Very nice place to spend a calm and relaxing vacation”
The hotel is an amazing getaway, with spacious rooms, private beach and water activities. The staff was very helping. Their assistant manager gratefully supported us in various things like favorite food, getting around etc. It's a calm place with not much hustle-bustle. They arrange taxis, tuk-tuks to go around as the place is bit on a a secluded road. all in all, we loved the place a lot. Keep up the good hospitality guys.
One of the great things about this property is its location. Its right there on the beach away from town. Fitness center is quiet modest and barely has basic equipment. Swimming pool and sunbath area has great views. Consider a room towards the beach or you will end up looking at road behind the hotel. Food was average but menu has some Indian cuisines. Recommended for its location.
Good place for sea bathing.”
The place has an excellent location for sea bath. The staff were very good and attentive. The rooms with sea view are the best. The room amenities and the food can be considered average relative to the price and considering other options available in Ahangama. Avoid the rooms with the lagoon view as it just happens to be the view of the road. Check with hotel staff for the weather conditions for sea bathing to make the most of your stay.
Best hotel where I have ever been!”
This place is paradise! Hotel was so beautiful and comfortable, and everything was just like in the pictures. The view, rooms, food and staff! This is definitely best hotel where I have been. Food was delicious (little bit expensive, but like normal hotel prices) and
We enjoyed a lovely short stay in the Ocean Panaromic room which had great view on 2 balconies. Staff was great and we felt as if we were known by all staff. Location is brilliant and this is a new hotel that we are happy we have found. Nice pool, ambiance and great food which is all well priced. Will recommend and will be back. Ayman Ghanam
A Little Gem just off the course of Galle”
The place is a little Gem of a hotel, hidden just off from Galle. Its a small hotel but with incredible sights, a private beach without the hindrance of beach boys and fantastic rooms. Only issue is the food, although its a Sri Lankan hotel, the roof top restaurant doesn't offer Sri Lankan delicacies.
This is a lovely hotel, staff are friendly and helpful, it has its own private beach, rooms lovely and very comfortable, food great.
Secluded stay, fantastic service”
The boutique hotel is away from the hustle bustle of nearby surfing shores. Highly recommended for a perfect hideaway. The service was amazing, the staffs went the extra mile to help us when we were worried about the gems that we have bought earlier on. The manager personally drove us to a nearby gem store to fix it. Thumbs up for its service!
Superb hotel. Excellent team of staff. Large luxurious rooms with panoramic view of the ocean. Large bathroom. Spotless clean. Great breakfast. Fabulous view of the ocean from the balconies
