Cheap price, nice bed. Weird door lock but seems secured during our stay.”
We were assigned to Bohol Hostel, not in Germany hostel. I think the property owner have lots of hostel in chungking, so even if you booked germany hostel, they will give you room on which is available on that day. Nice bed but i smell something weird on the bedsheet so I sprayed a lot of perfume. Only one elevator going to 6th and 10th flr and theres no option on going up when you want to go up from 6th to 10th flr. Sales people outside is harmless as long as you snob them. You can refill drinking water in the reception on 10th flr as only water heater and coffee are available in 6th flr. There’s also 100hkd deposit which refundable, Im not sure if its included in the hotel policy of agoda.
This is just an honest review - This is not about racism ”
The beddings are not newly change/clean. The person in charge who checked us in is grumpy (Indian young man). No towels available, you have to pay extra for it. The room location is underneath Indian/middle eastern eatery/canteen that you can smell their cooking anytime of the day specially during the morning. I remember, I already stayed in this same building (Chungking Mansion way back 2014) but my precious room was in bldg A. which is city view/facing streets. While bldg D, far left of the bldg
If and only if you are really, really desperate on budget”
This hostel is located at 6th Floor of Block D at Chungking Mansion, but check in and check out processes will be done at 10th Floor of the same building. Chungking Mansion is at the centre of Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) and MTR TST is just a walking distance. Chungking Mansion also homes to lots of restaurant and money changers. There is a Chinese Muslim restaurant (Hung Restaurant) that is a highly recommend. However there are some cons to this hostel. Towel is not provided. Room is super small, the water that runs from the tap has a bad smell. Anyway this is in Hong Kong. With such cost, you can get only basic necessities. If you have some extra cash, you might want to book at a nearby, proper hotel.
Ok just for 1 night”
Location is perfect. Tiny elevator with ques all the time. If you're unlucky to get upper bunk bed, it's very uncomfortable to climb every time. Electricity sockets are too far from the bed. But the worst thing - 1 toilet/bathroom for 5 rooms of 20+ people.
Right in the city center . Very small room , only one bathroom for many customers , cleaning is .... an option
I stayed 2 times in Germany Hostel, and every time was a good experience. The main reason for staying here is: 1. very clean 2. new bathroom 3. noiseless air-condition 4. top location in HK Thank you Mr. Dave for helping with the laundry. Top Service.
Near to tourist spots, and economy”
Walking distance to ferry terminal and subway stations. plenty of restaurants and tourist spots nearby. can't complain more about the room. It's pretty much the same for the budget you have. Friendly and helpful staff. Only that it's located at 10th floor of the building. So, there are lots of shops at ground floor, and mainly handled by Indian, Chinese and Middle Eastern people. Single ladies are not advised to stay here. Better get someone accompany.
Accommodation value for money”
It's a standard budget accommodation valued for money and located in Nathan Road. Accessibility and convenient wherever you go. However, the lift of this building is very old and have to wait a long time.
Best hotel in Chungking Mansions”
The Germany Hostel actually belongs to the Day And Night Hotel like several others as well. I knew that, I booked a room here because it was a little bit cheaper. The Day And Night Hotel group is really the best in the Chungking Mansions, that means the best in the area as well as the best for that room rate. First of all, the staff is so kind, you feel really welcomed, the rooms are small but very clean and in a good condition, many of them are quite new, and the WiFi is relatively fast. I was asked what I think about the star rating of one star, and I think it's underrated. You get things like a fridge and a hair dryer, a modern flat screen TV, and of course shampoo, and there's even a clock in the rooms. Do you normally find these things in one star hotels? So it has a very good value for money. I should mention that the building, the Chungking Mansions, can be a bit of a problem if you don't know it, but that's not the hotel's fault
Friendly, welcoming atmosphere ”
My stay was great. It was easy to find, and the staff were pleasant and very helpful. I had my time zones confused, it was later revealed, and showed up early by accident. The staff were patient and helpful and let me check in early. The room was quite pleasant, the bed comfortable, and the bathroom clean. I will stay again.
If you take price/location than luxurious space”
although local people would tell you this is not very safe building to stay, i personally like to have a room here whenever i visit hong kong. it's a matter of your travel taste. the price is unbeatable. hot water available anytime. air conditioner had no problem. free laundry service was terrific. as an ex-backpacker, i could tolerate with the small room. overall, the staff here were very diligent on every demand and i really appreciated it.
Chunking sucks, you get what you pay for”
Hotel price in Hong Kong would be terrible without Chunking Mansions. the rooms are extremely small, but consider the price, its always a bargain to stay there. Hong Kong IS one of the most expensive cities to live in the world.
Average, but would not stay again. It could put a damper on your vacation.”
You pay for what you get, Hong Kong is expensive, so at this rate don’t expect much but a room. Good things: Location is great, MRT stations nearby and walking distance to Victoria Harbour. You won’t have to worry about looking for restaurants or places to drink. Hot water, toilet and wi-fi all worked well. Cons: tiny room, I could touch both walls with having one arm bent, and I’m 5’6. Place felt dirty, but there was room service asking to change sheets daily, and he gave me a clean towel in exchange for my other one on the second day when I asked. Area felt sketchy, but there was a working safe in the room. Overall it is secure as you need a keycard to enter the first door, then each room have their own keys. The elevator isn’t that bad of a wait, and yes there are rats in the staircase. At the main entrance there are guys typically trying to sell you stuff, but it’s not aggravating enough to worry about. Staff will check you in but leave you alone for the remainder of the time, don’t expect much from them, but they were friendly and I got my deposit for the key back with no questions asked. Overall, I felt the place put a small damper on my trip, and I’m a simplistic guy who travels with one bag and has lived in SE Asia for two years. Then again, HK is expensive, so you can’t expect luxury at this price. It was ok, but I would gladly pay five more dollars a night for a place that I would be happy coming back to. Also, from the Kowloon station the shuttle bus is not K-5 it’s K-3.
Filthy and Rude staff”
Although location wise is excellent, staff are very rude, filthy and grossed area, going up is stressful, dirty elevators. Very poor atmosphere.
Great location and amazing staff!”
Location is very accessible. Located in the heart of the city. Staffs are very accommodating and hospitable esp the pinay one. :)
The room is super small, toilet is awful, lift is super slow. corridor is dirty
Ideal place for short trip ”
Iam very much impressed with the floor staff Mary who was very friendly in handling the guests. This place is worth staying for short trip. Ideal place for shopping and conveniently located near bus station and MTR.
Nice and tidy place for short trip”
If you are on a shorter trip, this place would be ideal as it saves lot of money, time. Easy access to bus stop and MTR. Excellent location for shopping. Good restaurants and bars near by. Iam quite impressed with a staff here called Mary. She is very friendly and she knows how to handle guests. Kudos to her 👍
We booked 1room/3pax for 4nights, and below are my reviews: 1. Good staffs! Hello to Ms. Mery for being accomodating and off course to Sir who lend us adoptor. 2. Proximity helps a lot. Near East TST and TST MTR. 3. Free hot drinking water and Unli Coffee 4. Just because we don’t have HKD during check in, they allow us not to give deposit with no hassle. 5. We stayed at 17th floor of Block E(which is the most convinient block of Chunking Mansion). The elevator is upto 16th floor and yes we need to take stairs from 16th upto 17th, but it is okay. Hindi naman mataas ang hangdan. 6. There was no Power problem. 7. There is Hot shower. 8. CR is very clean, they also provided complete toiletries and gave 2x towel replacement. 9. From the ground floor of Chungking Mansion, there is the lowest exchange rates from Peso to HKD. Like only 6.62pesos for 1HKD. 10. Inside of room is clean and looks like new. 10. I highly recommend this.
Did not stay at Germany Hostel, was made to stay at a different hostel”
Not sure what happened but I was made to stay at Bohol Hostel. Bohol Hostel was good though because the owner helped us with our luggages an was symphathetic to our situation because we waited for hours just to get our room.
