If you’re looking for a hotel to stay in Boudhanath, Kathmandu, LOOK NO FURTHER THAN HOTEL GHANGRI. Perhaps you feel that you should stay right around the stupa. After my 18-day stay, I would advise against it. Ghangri Boutique Hotel is only a couple of blocks away from the stupa and in exchange, you will have an AIR CONDITIONED ROOM, NO MOSQUITOS, NO BARKING DOGS AT NIGHT, AND A DELICIOUS, ALL-INCLUDED BREAKFAST WITH EXCELLENT COFFEE TO START YOUR DAY. This, of course, is in addition to the pleasure of being at a lovely, immaculately clean hotel, where everything works (including the WiFi with backup generator for Kathmandu’s regular power outages). One of us has health concerns so it was great to start the day with a fabulously tasty breakfast knowing that all the food at the hotel was perfectly safe. Our breakfasts started American-style but we soon evolved to delicious puri bhaji followed by lassi. Dinners were equally delicious and varied. The hotel room was equipped with an electric kettle and refrigerator. For drinking, we boiled water from the tap, allowed it to cool and refrigerated it. We stayed healthy and felt good for saving a lot of plastic (and perhaps avoided buying bottled water refilled from the tap, a risk we were warned about). Two friends staying around the stupa came to visit us at the hotel and said, we didn’t know that you guys were “living the life” here! I leave for last what to us was the most unforgettable part of our trip to Nepal: the interaction with the extraordinary Nepali people. To say that the staff at the hotel, starting with the hotel director, bent over backwards to help us with our many needs would be an ungrateful understatement. Their kindness was something beyond what we normally call superb service and falls more in the realm of a priceless human experience. This is what traveling is all about: when you take the place back home with you, in your mind and in your heart.

Very friendly and helpful staff who never fails to smile and greet you. They are always ready to serve you whenever you need. Very clean, neat and spacious rooms in a Tibetan style concept with a modern touch to the spaces. Excellent WIFI network connection within the hotel. There is also a beautiful view of the city from their rooftop. Meals were served very efficiently with a wide variety of delicious food in their menu. Thank you for the hospitable service that made our stay in Hotel Ghangri so comfortable and pleasant.

Wonderful stay - great value for money. Only complaint would be about staff being a little too intrusive - for example, we had send some clothes to the hotel laundry and the next morning at 8am a member of staff woke us up by knocking non-stop on our door to deliver the laundry. When I opened the door, the staff member walked straight into the room talking loudly without my invitation, whilst my wife was still in bed (and dropped the cloth bags on the bed, as if my wife didn’t exist!). I hope this was a one-off incident and that the staff are not trained to do that!

Poor Show”
Overall the room is acceptable, maybe not 4 star as advertised but ok. The biggest problem is that the doors are paper thin and with no sound proofing, you can hear even a pin drop in the corridor which btw is build in a way that all sounds echo!! I was up all night due to other guests making noise in the corridors, doors opening and closing and mind you, I am not a light sleeper!!! When I told the desk about the noise, they said it was a noisy group that has checked out, yet again that night there was noise by other guests and another group checked in 2 days later. So don't bank on a sound night sleep in this hotel. Also, I left my electric tooth brush behind which they say they did not find. Staff were generally friendly and smiley but not trained to handle issues and help to resolve them. Wrote to the hotel during my stay via agoda, got an email to say they will look into the noise issue and come back to me, but they didn't. I will not recommend this hotel to anyone!!
