"Great location near Fremont Street Experience."
January 14, 2018
Established in 1906, this family-owned hotel features an intimate and friendly ambiance reminiscent of Las Vegas in its earlier period. It's located right on Fremont Street, the most vibrant street scene bustling with street performers, specials events, and free concerts. Named the Best Downtown Hotel by the Las Vegas Review Journal, guestrooms stay true to its heritage, yet offer modern conveniences. As for dining, guests can't miss the Shrimp Bar & Deli which serves Las Vegas' original shrimp cocktails with a secret sauce. The hotel also features a welcoming casino with a new slot floor with favorites like Monopoly, Wheel of Fortune, and Mega Bucks. Golden Gate Hotel and Casino is surely a perfect choice for a memorable stay in Las Vegas.
"Over all, I would stay here again."

Great suite in the middle of the action.”
Was here for one night. The hotel added suites a couple of years ago so this was a relatively new room. Good sized suite with a great sectional for seating and very comfortable bed. Standard hanger space but lots of drawers for storage. Big flat screen tv. The suite faced away from the fremont street experience so it was quiet. The casino was good but they do play the music louder than I've noticed in other casinos. Good selection of games. Du-par's is a great diner type restaurant in the casino. Unfortunately, there is no room service. The hotel only has 160 rooms on 5 floors so it's a boutique hotel lacking some of the bells and whistles you get with bigger places but it's so close to anything you'd need, it's not an issue. The only issue I would suggest a fix for is the elevators. They have one elevator and it's slow. Still, I look forward to returning to the Golden Gate.
Get what you pay for”
I will say the value here was great. We only stayed one night. Location is great being on Fremont street where i spend most of my time. Room is small but cute. Didn't spend much time in room by trying to sleep was aweful. We got back to our room about 1:30am and the noise was extremely bad. Perhaps the location of the room was the problem. Our room was on the corner near Fremont street. It sounded like we were right by the stage. The noise didn't calm down till almost 3 am on a Sunday night. The lights were brought but the curtains did a decent job of blocking the light. The other huge issue for me was the ac or whatever it is they have there. A sign above the control says it only blows cool air in the summer and warm air in the winter. Our room was cold even with the unit off. So for me i wouldnt stay again. Perhaps if in a room not near Fremont street or bring an extra blanket and you will be ok.
Great Location, Fantastic Value”
This is probably the best value in Las Vegas. Super cheap rooms that are clean and comfortable. Right at the beginning of Freemont Street Experience, a short walk to many downtown hotels and casinos. If you want a taste of the Strip, take one of the many buses running every 10 minutes or less. Staff in both the hotel and casino were friendly and helpful. Only downside is there is no free wifi
Old Las Vegas Rules!!!”
There are not many issues with this hotel. The room was a little dirty, but I still clean. I felt a bit cramped, but for what I was paying, I am happy. Big plus for this hotel, it is not mentioned, but there is complimentary internet in the rooms. The casino in the hotel was very friendly and a great atmosphere. The Freemont Experience is way better than the strip and it is not as crowded. I recommend it here in Las Vegas. Pawn stars and the mobster museum are close to this area and are a must when visiting. Enjoy!!!
Experiencing the old Vegas”
If you want to experience the old Vegas style, Golden Gate Hotel and Casino is the best place to start with. Located along Freemont St Experience, you will never run out of fun. Generally, the prices of beers and buffets are much cheaper as compared to the ones at the Strip.
Nice location at a very affordable rate”
Strategically located in downtown Las Vegas. The Fremont street is in fact at its doorstep. Greyhound bus terminal is just a stone throw away. Public transportation station such as Deuce and SDX buses that ply The Strip are just few yards from the hotel. Though the hotel is not that new but the room is clean and basic amenities are provided.
Great western style hotel but small rooms”
I went to Las Vegas for business purpose and wanted to stay in different location than the main strip. I really enjoyed my stay in the hotel but the restaurant food is not that great and must go outside for food. It has a very friendly staff and the hotel is quite different than the big name hotels on Las Vegas Blvd.
Gambling, Drinking, Music”
It was a great trip as always. Golden Gate has $5 craps with 10x odds decent BJ tables and hot dealers. I love the 3rd floor overlooking Freemont and the stage. Windows open wide right onto the street. It's loud but who sleeps in Vegas anyway?
a night in downtown”
Great location. However, the room I had was facing the main stage of the Fremont experience. At times it was fun and exciting, it was a little loud. But who comes to Vegas to sleep?
Wonderful Hotel and Great Freemont Experience!!”
The whole place was great! The staff was wonderful from the hotel and the casino part....front desk, housekeeping, waitresses, dealers.....the decor is so cool! Like 30-40s Vegas but updated....LOVED IT!
Great location, old school hotel so facilities somewhat limited compared to strip but clean. Actual casino nothing special but right next to Golden Nugget and others. Any early nights probably need ear plugs. Would definitely stay here again
A very nice place. I would stay there again. Enjoyed the comfy bed and the cozy room. As I am not much of a gambler, I cannot tell you too much about the casino, but it seemed nice. Not too big - good if you want to have a peaceful Las Vegas experience.
great location to party on holloween night”
All was good. But if you stay in a front room, facing Fremont st, don't expect to bed down in the evenings until the street band is done playing:: 2:00 AM. There was loud speakers 10 ft from my windows. Open your windows to have that nearby speakers 10 plus on the volume scale!! in your room. Like front row seats to the band.
I think that now there is a veterans ID card offered by the US government which needs a DD214 to get,, it would be wise for the golden gate to ask for it and offer some type of discount to military veterans. Had a good stay. Thanks
Fantastic Value on the Freemont Street Experience”
This hotel is an amazing value even for downtown. The rooms have recently been renovated, so they are all clean and new, though the rooms and bathrooms are quite small. The hotel is located right at the beginning of Freemont Street, lots of entertainment and dining options. The hotel restaurant has good food at a reasonable price. You can easily catch a bus if you want to go to the strip. We had a great time!
if this is a newly remodeled the hotel they messed some major considerations. Like maybe putting in a new bathtub where the hot water would stay consistent and not change from hot to cold. It might've been good to have somebody besides a third-grader do the tile grouting. And I'd suggest that they put in new windows so it's not so noisy. And finally I like to see a bed that's a long enough so my feet don't hang over the edge and I'm only 5'9".i'd hate to sleep in a bed like that if I was any taller . I enjoyed being able to look out on Fremont Street but that was about the only accommodation that I would say is 3 star rated.
Comfy bed, tiny room”
I live in Las Vegas, I stayed downtown for a wedding so I could drink and not have to drive home. Unfortunately the Life is Beautiful festival was the same weekend and because of that I easily paid over 4x what the room was worth but did it to be with my friends. The room was VERY small but I had been in the rooms before so I knew what to expect. The room was very clean and the bed extremely confortable. My only complaint was that I couldn't get any cold water so I had a scalding hot shower and brushed my teeth with hot water. LOL As long as the price is right, I'd stay there again.
Nice rooms, poor staff performance ”
Pretty good overall on terms of rooms, but the front desk couldn't provide a few bowls for our cereal in the morning. And the morning we left early for our grand canyon trip there was a man sleeping outside a room a few doors down. No idea whether he was a guest or not. There was a bit of noise from fremont Street, but we were lucky enough to be in an internal room. Definitely recommend getting a room higher up and away from the street if you want to sleep. I did love the location right on fremont and close to the greyhound stop and buses to the strip. The bed was comfortable, although the bath had not been cleaned in some time
est 1906 remodeled small but cool decor! ”
Always something to do...Loved all the Art music and people on fremont st easy access to double decker buses to travel all over town but everything you need is right there! Will def be go Back!
old hotel, but not bad...near the strip”
location is great, free wifi, rooms are decent and clean...stay away from the restaurants since they are money pits....but other than that its an old hotel remodeled to modern standards...good budget hotel. only stay here if you are on a budget, but since you are in vegas most of the time you are not in your rooms
