Acceptable”
This hotel is in bad need of renovation. Everything past the lobby and restaurant is in sad shape -- dingy smelly hallways, bathroom fixtures loose with very little water pressure, furniture should have been replaced many years ago. The TV only got two channels clearly. Thankfully the hotel is located close to the grand palace, the staff are kind and the restaurant is good.

Old and dingy. ”
The hotel is old and rundown. The room and bed linen was clean. Aircond did not work very well. The diningroom was nice. The menu had western food on it but was not available except for breakfeast. The staff were really great. Very difficult hotel to find. I would think it was a lovely hotel in it's day but badly in need of extenstive renovations. When walking the passage to the rooms it is quite depressing.

Low cost, but also low upkeep and facilities”
The staff is very polite and the restaurant serves good food. The location is good and the price is reasonable. However, the hotel and its rooms are in need of much maintenance. The furniture, room decor, and bathroom are not in good shape. There is a moldy smell in the hotel. There is no soundproofing between rooms; you can clearly hear people talking in the next room. Wi-fi is only offered in the lobby, not in the rooms. The air-conditioner in the restaurant was not functioning during my stay.

The receptionist took 30min to check us in , she rebooted up the old win 95 pc and waited for screen to warm up and after checking out her hand scribbled notes proceeded to try to find my booking on he pc. My wife and her sister and myself were Staying at the hotel so we could go to the local public hospital first thing in morning .After the receptionist found our booking she inquired about the 3 people stay 1 room , which is what the hotel advertised, she insisted we had to stay in 3 single bed and that was that.. Better hotels to be found in the area

Checking out.
Very brief. The hotel is old and worn, elderly staff who tried, rooms dingy, bathroom again tired. Would not use again other than in an emergency.

"Old Charm" - with not Much Charm Left”
Nothing!
Afte staying six whole nights at the Golden Horse Hotel during our recent visit to Bangkok, we are absolutely certian that this hotel must have seen better days, about twenty years ago...First of all, arriving at the Reception Desk, there was not even one person who was able to understand us, or communicate with us in a proper English, nor in any other language that we speak (Spanish/ French). This has caused numerous misunderstandings between us throughout our stay. Second, the rooms are in a bad shape: they hadn't been painted for the last fifteen years or so, there is a constant smell of mould, and the beds and mattresses are in an awfull state. Going out to the corridor, you are faced with run-down carpets, and smells of mould everywhere...The elevator is in a very bad shape, and the bell-boy is ill-trained...I would also apply to this the staff of the restaurant, no one of whom speaks English. Thirdly: the location of the hotel is in what currently appears to be a working class neighbourhood, and far removed from any restaurants and other hotels and buisenesses which today are to be found in the modern Silom quarter.

location
The hotel is a a great location, 15 minutes walking from Khao San road, in front of the Golden Mountain and ideal to visit old Bangkok and temples. Indeed, safe and quite area at night. Rooms are spacious and quite clean, but a bit old; however, everything worked well. Staff is polite and ready to help.

Near places of interest and in a quiet area. Friendly, efficient service.
this hotel is in a quiet street quite close to china town providing an efficient service in the room and in its restaurant. our meals were tasty and the amounts served were generous and all that could be expected . we appreciated our spacious room which was entirely suitable for a family of four and its room facilities all worked perfectly.

the fruit shakes are fantastic. The price was about right
its in the back of beyond! it needs a bit of tlc. the staff need a holiday or a bonus or just some happy pills :)
When we finally found it it looked really nice The receptionist told us we hadnt prepaid and after about 10 minutes she found paper that proved otherwise but it wasnt very welcoming, The room was ok. The staff in the resturant were unhappy except the older lady who makes the fruit shakes who seemed to be the only person in the hotel who was happpy.

location
nice little hotel but a bit hard to find. it's kind of in a remote neighbourhood so I had to walk up and down the street a couple of times to find it. doesn't look all that spectacular from the outside but the rooms are clean and the staff is very friendly. restaurant is amazing and decently priced. it's not in the city center but if you walk around for 15 mins you'll run into a couple of nice temples and the big tourist attractions are maybe 30 mins on foot. I must add that I'm writing this review 2 years after I stayed there so my memory is a bit hazy.

Quality Golden Horse Stay”
Close to a good Muay Thai gym. FAIRLY CENTRAL. rESTRAUNT FOOD WAS REASONABLE.Good air con and Tv
Dirty, old, not maintained at all, expensive slow internet, water system wasn't very good(brown water to shower in,n@ times no hot water, disturbed water flow)Lack of selection in mini bar, lack of english channels on tv laundry service too expensive
The Golden Horse Hotel is a very cheap convienient place to stay if you want to train Muay Thai@ a local gym . It has very very basic facilities but is comfortable enough for a short to medium length of stay. It's location is fairly central and is quite close to MBK centre a few good local Muay Thai gyms , Ratchadamnoen Boxing Stadium, Kao San Road and a few nice temples. It need alot of work but has plenty of potential if it was to be renovated and it's facilities apgraded.

Welcoming Hotel”
Rooms are large and clean with bath; safety box is available for use.
A coat of paint would brighten up the hotel.
I have stayed twice in this hotel and the staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful. The rooms are large and clean with good air conditioning, a shower and a bath. The street rooms have a view of Golden Mountain. It is in a quiet neighborhood. There is a restaurant at the hotel but there are also plenty of food stalls close by, along with a 7/11. The hotel is close to the canal and buses. I have stayed in a few hotels in Bangkok and definitely will return here.
