Really beautiful hotel. Beautiful scenery, beautiful view of the sunrise and surrounding area. A perfect spot for relaxing. The staff was extremely professional and service oriented - from the moment you stepped off the boat. Their English was not the best but nonetheless, the service was of upmost quality. The bungalows were beautiful and the area around was very clean and well maintained. Breakfast was absolutely amazing, and again the staff was extremely helpful. You can easily walk over to the village if you want to eat something more local :) The only issue was connecting to wifi which could only be done at reception and was extremely slow. We could not load any pages so we had to have the staff look up information for us or call buses - which they helped with. My highest recommendations!

    Great property, great owner”
This hotel was fabulous--great location, right downtown without it being too close to the louder road, delightful host who immediately offered to make suggestions. She's familiar with all trekking groups and was happy to allow for space to meet with guides. She recommended the local weekly market which was delightful. The breakfast was fine--highly recommend the tea over the coffee (but I'm from Seattle and a bit of a snob ;-)). She upgraded our room to the terrace side and the view from their and the roof at sunrise especially was delightful. The room was clean and it was nice to have our own bathroom. We did wander upstairs and look at the dormitory rooms--they were extremely spacious and airy. I could understand how, per some reviewers, they may be colder at times, but they were also beautiful and the owner puts out extra blankets/pillows during the colder nights.

Rooms are ok, but be careful for early check-in”
When we arrived with the night bus (was supposed to arrive at 6 but arrived at 4...) we wanted to wait for the morning in the commun room of the hostel. They didn't want to let us wait inside if we didn't pay 10usd per person !!! So we had to find another hotel, pay the price to wait in the commun room or wait outside....not a nice way to welcome guest in my opinion !! Otherwise the dormitory were good and bathrooms ok. Nice rooftop terrace also.

Good location but over priced for the facilities and quality”
Location is great because it's close to where the bus drops you off and to the big trekking companies. The staff are nice and the breakfast is alright (crepes with jam, banana and coffee/tea). The dorm room is basic, a hard bed and the bathroom is pretty dirty. It's good for one night stay before you do the trek but it is definitely overpriced for what you get

    Great Shan Noodle Breakfast”
Booked a night here before my trek with two other friends. It was cold and rainy but we stayed sufficiently warm in our 3 bed room. Loved the shan noodle breakfast. Enjoyed a hot shower. Staff gave us excellent advice on where to eat and what to do during our stay. The next night I left and my friends moved to the dorms on the top floor which was very uncomfortable, freezing cold and felt like an infirmary. I would recommend sticking to the other rooms and not the dorms.

    Not recommended ”
I had to pay for one full night and I arrived 4:30am. They have a policy (pay only breakfast) if you check in after 6am. The receptionist didn’t tell me about this (so I would have waited until 6am) and he made me pay one full night and I know some other people who were advised to wait and didn’t have to pay like I did. I complained on the next day asking for a fair price and the lady (rude owner btw) just pretended she wasn’t understanding me and started saying so many pointless things just to make it confusing and stop the conversation. Disappointed because in Myanmar people are very helpful and honest all the time. Wouldn’t stay here again. Rude staff making noise early in the morning while everyone sleeps. Poor breakfast.

    A friendly hotel”
The owner is very supportive and attentive to any of her guests' wishes. The rooms are nice, priced according to the view they provide. Particularly enjoyable are the 3 different rooftop terraces where you can enjoy the sun during the day and sunset.

    Acceptable”
first we were set in a small room with three beds in the floor. the windows didn't close properly and there insects inside the room. we asked for a better room and we had to pay extra 15 dollars/night. In three days they didn't clean the room or the bathroom. the breakfast is very simple and we were charged extra for having mineral water.

    Good value for money”
Stayed in the dorm, it was simple. Screens on the windows but no doors on the rooms which is strange. The breakfast is not that great and could include some eggs or some more fruit (only a banana) as this would not be that much more expensive. In general I like staying here when travelling alone as it's cheap, open when the late night bus comes in, and is easy to meet people at breakfast and on the rooftop at sunset.

Great for a night's stay before trekking to Inle Lake”
The Golden Kalaw Inn is cheap, breakfast is good but pretty standard from what I saw of hotels in Myanmar (toast, fruit, an egg, and tea/coffee), closed to where the bus drops you off and all of the trekking companies in the area, and the room and bed were spacious. The room was clean, but I took away one star for the facilities because this was actually the only place where I noticed a number of mosquitos in my room while in Myanmar (even during my trek, actually). It wasn't swarming, but, like I said, it was the only time I had this problem. And while I gave it 5 stars for location, I should add that from what I could tell, there wasn't really anything happening in Kalaw, and the only reason I could see for tourists to stay there would be if you're going to do a trek from there to Inle Lake (which I'd highly recommend if you're visiting Myanmar and want to visit the lake). On a final note, because I was leaving so early in the morning, the post office wasn't open so I left my postcards and money for stamps with the lady who I presume was the owner (I'd chatted with her a little when I first arrived, and she was really friendly and helpful, but I never got her name), and after I arrived at my hostel at Inle Lake, they showed me a message they'd received from Golden Kalaw Inn; a picture of my postcards and text saying they'd mailed them out. I must confess that I didn't examine the picture closely, as it was just on a cellphone screen, and just assumed it really showed my postcards, but that was back in June and all of my friends and family members have yet to receive their cards. I don't want to accuse anyone of being dishonest, and I don't entirely distrust the hotel myself because there is still a chance that there was just a problem with the post, but I've done the same thing in other countries like Vietnam and Thailand and everyone received their cards those times, so even though I'm sure the lady didn't just pocket my money, I guess I'll still recommend oth

    Ok hotel”
Room are ok, bathrooms are ok (hot showers). I did my laundry there which was quite expensive (9600 kyats for about 2kg), the laundry was dirty even when I got it back... The ladies working here are really lovely but I found the men were a bit rude. I always had the impression I was annoying them, not a single smile. Breakfast is ok (toasts, fruits, tea/coffee, egg).

Nice place for a day or 2.”
Dont be scared if your bus stops at 4 or 5am, they deal with this all day. So you either can sleep in the lobby and wait for check in time or do an early check in. Average brekkie (toasts, butter, coffee, fruit).
