A peaceful retreat away from the main city”

Staff hospitality, location, cleanliness

The owner of the guest house was extremely hospitable. He even gave us a lift to the airport, at a charge of 150 baht when we were expecting him to just call a cab. He would always ask us if our rooms needed cleaning and attended to us whenever we needed him. The location is fantastic, we could easily walk to the main city, yet it is far enough to be peaceful and quiet enough for a good night's rest after a long day out. My friends and I would highly recommend Gong Kaew!

great place”

- nice place in a garden in calm part of Chiang Mai old town, but you still can get everywhere by foot - we stayed in superior room - nicely designed, very roomy and extremely clean - my tip: rent a scooter and make a trip to see sunrise on Doi Suthep, It´s about 40 minutes and than 10 minutes climbing stairs, so you heve to go around 5.30 AM - but definitely worth it! You ll be probably first there only with singing monks and awesome view of Chiang Mai. If you want to make your trip longer you can visit also Kings palace and waterfall hike in national park (I recommend).

excellent quiet location in the old city”

I live in Chiang Mai and spent a lot of time finding the perfect hotel for my parents when they visited in November for Loy Krathong. This hotel is just lovely with a great courtyard and atmosphere, quality rooms, and excellent staff in a good location. It's surrounded by some healthy and delicious restaurants with locally sourced food, and it's a short 5 minute walk from Wat Phra Singh which is at one end of the Sunday night walking street market. Not to mention the breakfast! which is cooked to order from a choice of dishes and really good. I highly recommend this guesthouse.

Lovely grounds, quiet area”

We loved our stay here. It's a good 15-20 min walk from the major Chiang Mai attractions, but that's what we liked about it. Feels more subdued and local. The courtyard/common area is one of the few greenspaces in the city, and was a refreshing sight each morning. There's also some friendly cats hanging around. They also offer affordable airport transfers, free motorbike parking, and coffee/tea/toast whenever you like. The wifi is the fastest/strongest we had in our whole trip. Would definitely stay here again.

High CP Value”

For the money you pay, it has provided all the required facilities, which includes free toast and coffee (saved us several days breakfast ), king size bed, outside hangers (never seen in other hotels). In addition, it also provides scooter rental at a very economical price, save us time looking outside. I would definitely come back again if I visit Chiang Mai.

would not stay anywhere else in Chiang Mai ”

Location and quiet

First the staff is super friendly. Been there many time and remain hesitant to recommend this charming guesthouse because I don't want anyone to know about it, but one cannot be selfish. Plus the family owning the place has to make a living and since I cannot be there all the time I may as well make room for others. Located in the heart of the old city, this is the only place with a real multi acres garden. Generally speaking because the guesthouse is very affordable, it is mostly occupy by young and polite travelers. Most of them, as myself, return offenders. If you need anything, just ask... Renting a bike or scooter, a ride to airport or train station, they even have cheap and good laundry on premises. Just go there but please keep the secret....

We stayed in Chiang Mai and hated it at first, but after returning and finding this great corner of the city we totally had our minds changed! Great location with lots of good food nearby, lovely (QUIET!!) accomodation with the cutest/grumpiest guard pug on site. Really helpful staff too.

One night in Gong Kaew Huen Kum”

Location, inside garden

We had a nice stay in Gong Kaew but some elements could really be improved, like the breakfast (doubtful butter and not practical self service) and the quality of the bed. The rooms in the back of the building are noisy because there are roosters that wake you up early in the morning. And one of the 2 rooms didn't even provide us with bath gel. In a nutshell, it was not the best and most relaxing stay that we had at Gong Kaew.

A real village garden.”

location, green surrounding, silent

location on the top left of the square of the town(see chiang mai's map), quite far to the night bazaar and weekends night market. bread and drinks was there to be served by self-service all time with no charge. village garden-liked decoration for green lovers, therefore the mosquitoes were big and painful being stung, to avoid any bad diseases cause by mosquitoes, please prepare repellent with you, you will extremely need it all time in the hostel area, repellent could be bought from the reception thou. the hostel also offered to rent motorbike and bicycle. bathroom was average with functional hot shower. ranked this hostel with 4 stars in chiang mai city.

A clean and cute place in chiang mai”

Pros: the outdoor commun aria where you can have free coffee and toast all day long. You can rent a scooter The room are clean and large. It,s 10 minutes walk from the action in old city. Cons : the curtains are not thick enough so in the morning it's not dark at all in the room. The school right beside is sometime noisy.

Lovely staff and breakfast included ”

Breakfast included, friendly staff, good location

Great little hostel based on a quiet side street in a good location to walk around Chaing Mai. The staff are very attentive and lovely people. There is an array of activities to book at the front desk. The beds are thin but not uncomfortable and the room spacious. And there is the added bonus of the included breakfast and the free toast, tea and coffee all day. The only negatives are that the duvet is a little short if you're 6ft or more, and that all bar one of the showers seem to be cold only (choose the one on the end for a warm shower). Overall I would recommend staying here if you would like to chill.

Great little oasis, peaceful and quiet in the heart of Chiang Mai”

Beautiful little family place in the quiet part of the city. Garden was very peaceful and relaxing. Beers, soft drinks and water were available in the fridge 24/7 and trust is placed on the guest to write any takings down in their sheet to pay later. Room in the bungalow was nice, retro style but pleasant. Breakfast was served every day and although there are only 3 options to choose from, it was still nice and well made.

A good choice for budget accommodation”

low price for dorm, quite, clean

I'd stay here in a 8 mix dorm for 5 nights, a good choice for budget accommodation. shared toilet and shower room in an open space, but clean. Many reviews said about the location is far from tourist space, I kindda like walk, not a problem for me. It locates in the northwest of old city region, would take you about 20 mins walking to the Tae Pah gate in the east. But there are really too many mosquitoes in the public space, so that not many people there in the night, not OK for meeting or chatting with new friends.
