This is the old George Washington hotel that has been totally updated with new interiors in the rooms, art throughout the hotel and some nice upgrades. The restaurant on the main floor is excellent! The rooms are small, as they are in every hotel we have stayed in in NYC, however be warned the bathrooms are miniature (they didn't change the footprint of the rooms). The beds are very wonderful and the rooms are otherwise very comfortable. This is truly a boutique hotel and by the looks of the average guest considered very hip. The location is excellent, near two subway lines and halfway between the sites of uptown and downtown. A great location if you are exploring NYC as a tourist as we were on this trip.

Friendly staff, good sized rooms, good location. A couple of blocks from Macy's, Empire State Building, Flatiron is just a quick metro ride. City bike and metro stations very close. Booked through Agoda and got breakfast included which was a nice bonus. They have recently refurbished the hotel and only one lift is working but I'm sure this will be fixed. Only downside was eating breakfast in the lounge - apparently planning to move this to the dining area. Great things - breakfast, staff, comfortable beds and pillows. Being a smaller hotel you feel less like a number and more like a guest. We enjoyed our stay!

the location was perfect. the price was reasonable for 4 stars hotel for solo traveler. the room was clean. Bed was very comfortable. my room was inner and i didnt had any view but the windows of the next building which wasnt the best, plus there was continuous noice of something like ac or other, i dont know but i noticed it always (day/night). its kinda disturbing they have a resturant in the hotel entrance, there is always food smell and crowded. over all i enjoyed my stay. the stuff was a bit snobbish and not nice thought.

I always stay at Hotel 31 when I'm in New York. It's clean, comfortable and within walking distance of many sights in Midtown. There's also a subway station a block away, so it's easy to get anywhere from here. it's also quiet the quietest hotel I've found in New York. I wish there were ensuite bathrooms, but I've always been lucky enough to find a free bathroom on my floor. The staff members have always been very kind and helpful and, on my recent visit, I was given an early check-in when I arrived a bit before 7am, which was greatly appreciated after a night on a Greyhound bus!!

I travelled with my 25 year old daughter so we had booked a room with two double beds. We were early to check in and were offered an upgrade to a room with only the one bed so didn't take it. we left our bags with the super staff, had a hot chocolate in the lovely little lounge area and then wandered around until our room was ready at 3pm. The room itself was gorgeous, two double beds, two televisions, lovely bathroom, lounge area with desk, coffee table etc. if (and hopefully) when I return to New York, I will definitely stay here again - we loved it! It's situated in 32nd Street which is in Korea a town right near the Madison Avenue corner. We walked every day and it took about 15 minutes in the snow to walk right into Timres Square. There were lots of Korean restaurants close by, our fav was Miss Korea BBQ. The hotel is really elegant the staff super courteous, friendly and extremely knowledgeable about anything we wanted to do such as which subway to take downtown or uptown. There was nothing I could fault about the Avalon Hotel.

First impressions of the Clarion Hotel when you walk in is sort of a 90's time capsule. Here I learned that when booking two double bed rooms for my party of three that its a single full size bed per room. Since there were three people in my party I had to upgrade one room to a two double bed. I find the verbiage confusing still. The manger worked with us and charged $40.00 bucks for the upgrade. The carpet lined hallways and rooms were malodorous and very cramped. If my stay was longer then one night I would have took the lost for my reservation and went elsewhere. The location isn't bad at all and it close proximity to other shops, bars and restaurants was nice. This place for the price just wasn't ideal for me.

I was in NYC to celebrate my 5th wedding anniversary and a 30th friendship anniversary with a high school friend of mine. Not only did I get an upgrade (wasn't expecting it), but also got a nice bottle of champagne and chocolates. My friend also got one herself. In addition, my friend got in super early, and was given a room before the 3pm check-in. That kind of service was much appreciated as she was up since 3pm. All in all, a wonderful experience!

My friend and I shared the Superior Queen room for an overnight stay in NYC. Since we were staying for only a night and needed to be at the taping of the Wendy Williams show very early we chose The Gershwin. Based on previous customer reviews I knew to expect rooms that were on the small side (typical for most NYC hotels) and for the hotel to have its own charm. I was very impressed by the decor, which is simple, clean, and quirky. Despite not having the 5 star Hotel "amenities", The Gershwin makes up for it with amazing customer service! The way the front desk staff, concierge, and even the hotel maids treated my friend and I, we got 5 star hotel treatment! I think this is what made our stay over the top exceptional. Everyone was able to offer numerous suggestions for places to eat and even vouchers to receive complementary coffee at the next door restaurant/bar Play (which we discovered is part of the Museum of Sex). For the price and location I was very pleased with my stay at The Gershwin Hotel!

My husband and I stayed here for one night. This was actually a very good alternative as we were supposed to be booked on a cheaper hotel nearby but but found it to be very filthy so we walked out immediately and found this Raddison Martinique. The building looks colonial, but upon entering our room, we were relieved to see clean sheets, clean towels, clean room. It's what really matters to us. The location is also great as its very near the Madison square, Penn station, ang walking distance to shopping malls.

This hotel is lovely and in a prime location, close to just about everything. Rooms are a good size, given it's NY. The beds are outrageously comfortable - I wanted to take one home with me. Friendly staff and a modern fresh look. I'd HIGHLY recommend booking directly with the hotel and skip Agoda. There were extra fees not included in the "total" price. I ended up paying the hotel another $250 CDN. I called Agoda and tried to dispute this and was told to "read the fine print". They were correct that it was stated in the contract but that wasn't made clear. It was included in a callout box with what was "included". Very sneaky. Book directly with the hotel, they will match any rate and give you additional perks. Skip Agoda and save the hassle.

We were impressed by the helpfulness of the staff at The Lex. They made everything about our stay easy and enjoyable. Our room was small, but very clean and comfortable. It was an easy walk to the subway station so the location is very convenient. Plus, Maurice at the front desk found us some great tickets for the Book of Mormon. We would definitely stay there again.

We stayed at this hotel following a two night stop at the Waldorf Astoria and a criuse. The hotel was excellent, we upgraded to a skyline suite from a double and it was well worth it. We had an excellent view from the 37th Floor of the Chrysler Building and the river towards Brooklyn. The Hotel was in walking distance of a number of attractions and an underground station for going further afield. Staff were excellent and very helpful and friendly. The room was very well kept and the bed was massive (and had a selection of pillows you could choose from!). The mini bar was very well stocked and reasonably priced, we also had a TV in our room with a large seelction of channels. There are also a Gym and Spa facilities which were in very good condition and had a member of staff present during the day. There is complimentary WiFi available in reception with a code, no free WiFi was available in the rooms however which is the only negative point about this hotel. I would without hesitation recommend this hotel.

The Air Conditioning system was very disappointing. The blower was located directly over the bed and was very strong. So when the unit came on, it would blow directly on us as we were sleeping. There also no in between temperature. It would start to get really warm, and then the unit would come on full speed directly at our faces. The pillows were also a disappointment. They were way too puffy and too large for the bed. We had one traditional pillow each, and then one large square pillow each. How do you sleep with a large square pillow? Lastly, as in most New York hotels, there is no ice machine on any of the floors, Not the problem. The problem was that it took over 1/2 hour to get it after we called room service. Overall, a very disappointing experience.

This hotel has to be one of the best values in NYC, a city known for astronomical real estate & hotel prices. I have paid similar prices for a small hostel-style rooms with shared bathroom. For a little more money, I got the Herald Sq hotel and was so happy. It's easy walking distance to a lot of popular downtown areas, Gramercy Park, Union Square, restaurant, shopping, etc. etc. The lobby area and hallways look a bit dingy and tired, but the room itself was much better than I expected from the lobby. The bed was very comfortable, the room wasn't a shoebox, flat screen TV, bathroom wasn't too cramped and even had Aveda shower products! Overall I would highly recommend this hotel for someone who wants a decent and comfortable hotel, but has a lower budget and doesn't need all the added frills of some other places.

Superb location under the Empire State Building, hotel ideal for visiting Manhattan and within walking distance of all central shops, tourist sites and eateries. Hotel reception and staff fantastic, hallways and rooms slightly dated decor wise, however room size was fine, bed was comfortable. If you are expecting a 5 star room this isn’t it but if you want a room to lay your head in the best location with all amenities to hand this is the place for you, thanks to all the staff for a great week in New York

Photo looks good but in reality it is small, old and falling apart. The bed & pillows were soft and uncomfortable. The air-con was installed in such a way that curtains could not be drawn close. The TV reception is breaking up most of the time. The corridor outside is dirty and walls are so thin, noises appeared to be happening in the apartment instead of outside of apartment. The only saving grace is the location. We will not stay there again or recommend it.

Overall hotel Location, Facilities and Room cleanliness is TOP! very cozy modern vibe. Being a mother daughter trip~ we were looking for a more spacious room. Jame-nomad had the perfect room for us. Very spacious. And booking months ahead, we got a great deal for the two queen bedroom. (the fan is a bit... well very Noisy. please be warned. :)) On our agoda voucher it had said check in 2pm- checkout 2pm. But on the actual day of arrival room wasnt ready till 4pm. This was compensated with a Bonne. When confirming our checkout time at the front desk, staff member told us we had to check out at 12 cause we hadn't booked 'directly' to the hotel... that was a bit of miss for us cause we had asked prior for a late check out (if possible.) and the fact that i had asked the front desk on the actual day after 11AM! we had to hurry.... Apart from that I would definetly go back and stay at the James Nomad. thank you~.

We had a great time. We arrived at about 1am and the place was still vibrant with people, fun and drinks at the bar. Checking in was easy and although the place was fully booked out, we still got a room with great views of the empire state! We went back down for a quick drink and the bar had a great selection on offer and late night snacks for hungry travellers. In the morning we realised just how truly fantastic the place is. Outside of appreciating the funky décor, make the most of the breakfast in the restaurant down stairs and the COFFEE IS TO DIE FOR! The place is really close to all the best things on offer in NYC shopping, eating, sites etc. It is also really close to the subway and taxi's are always parked out the front. Make sure you have some champagne and oysters downstairs in the afternoon. Overall, I would definitely stay here again!

I stayed at the Hotel Chandler in February of 2013 with my partner. We expected the hotel to be good due to the reviews on trip advisor and we were definitely not disappointed! Location - Fantastic. A minute walk from broadway. 15 minutes walk from Times Square. 2 blocks down from the Empire State Building. 10 minutes walk from Madison Square Garden and Penn Station. Two subway stations within 5 minutes walking distance. The area is nice and we felt quite safe walking around there. Perfect! Room - Upon reading trip advisor reviews we booked a deluxe king because we were told they were a bit larger. Well, if they were larger than queen rooms must be tiny! The room is not big, the bathroom is a closet basically. However, from what we could gather of New York that is pretty much normal. Bed was comfortable however while it is advertised as a King bed it is actually two singles pushed together (which I hate). Bathroom with rainful shower is lovely. Amenities - Gym was average. Weights go to 50 pounds which is reasonable but not fantastic. Staff - Were absolutely fantastic. So helpful and would always go above and beyond to meet our needs. Were very friendly and genuine which we appreciated above all. Upon arrival we were amazed at their attentiveness (they went through a map of NYC with us pointing out all the top tourist attractions and so on). 100% recommend for business or leisure. Fantastic stay.

I have stayed in several New York hotels over the years and Hotel Giraffe is my FAVORITE!!! We will definitely be staying there again on our next trip. The rooms, by NYC standards are spacious and clean. The staff was so friendly and helpful. We enjoyed their continental breakfast (which is not something I usually care for) and their cheese and wine service in the evening. The location was perfect, as we could get around to all the places we wanted to go, easily. I can’t say enough about this hotel. Stay there-you won’t be disappointed!!!

The rooms are lovely but dark and the layout of our suite was a little disconcerting as the wc was away from the shower and sink. Something different. Love the vibe though and would stay again. They had some problems with finding our reservation and tried very hard to make up for it later. 5* for service and keeping their guests happy. I loved the location and found it very central for getting around NYC. Far enough from the maddening crowd at Times Square.
