Nice island location. good size room. very comfortable bed. ”
The hotel is very spacious, good pool, reasonable gym. Staff were very attentive and well presented. The main restaurant food was excellent with reasonable prices. The downfall was the tours. We took the Victoria point tour which was supposed to be a trip to Victoria point, then to the temple then yo the market. Unfortunately we were taken to a tourist gift shop after the temple which was over priced. We finally got to the market and were told it was a wet market however we insisted. We found that the market was not only fruit and veg but there were all sorts of general merchandise. Unfortunately there was not time to go shopping. We would have much preferred the market instead of going to the tourist shop. The second problem was the 4 island tour which is a day long tour. We were told all sorts of information from book in the mornong to we had to book in the night before which we did. In the morning we wete told that we could not go on the tour because we only had border passes.
Great Hotel, Stunning island views from the rooms”
the andaman club is a fantastic place to get away for a few days. the hotel is clean and the staff are absolutely awesome and will tend to your every need. we were particularly impressed with the gym facilities and the swimming pool. our stay was quiet, there were not many guests at the hotel, or at least it seamed as though there were not many guests (they may have been in the casino, a burmese indulgence that you will not find in neighbouring thailand, that attracts quite a few thai nationals), however; we are not a gambling family and didn't check out the casino facilities. the rooms were clean and spacious with breath taking views of the surrounding islands that simple cannot be described. you must note however; take cash! there are no cash machines on the island, on arrival you will need to pay approximately us$ 100 landing fees and transfers, you will also need about 70 dollars for your room deposit too, plus any cash you would like for meals and the duty free! yes that is right, duty free. the andaman club is the only thing on this island, so it has it's own immigration, hotel, golf course, port and duty free, so there is no taking a taxi any where, which is just fine for a family get away for a few days. we will be back again!
amazingly Pool. Large CLEAN. everything is clean in Resort. after traveling in Myanmar for 2 wks. ”
2.. challenges . 1 each time I want to catch the ferry to the resort, I have to wait 1 hr and 30 min. 2. No one met me at the airport. Alone in Myanmar, in a country where there is little English, I was sick and weak with food poisoning and I had to rely on the help of other passengers to carry my backpack on the bouncing ferry. They should have some one to meet their guests at the airport. When a taxi finally got me to the dock, the 5 pm ferry had gone and I sat waiting for the 6:30 ferry. Once one is on the island, the staff is amazing. Breakfasts could nearly fill you for the day. Asian.. western. . It is all there. Grand Andaman is such a delight after traveling in Myanmar for 2 weeks- where garage was too often dumped every where. And staff had not been trained how to wipe a table. Here Every thing is clean.
Border run?”
Andaman Club is located in an island around the border between Thailand and Burma ( Myanmar ). I went there with the family because my visa ran out and i was looking for something fast. They have their own immigration, which is nice: You hand your passport to them and they will worry about your stamps ( your passport is ready when you check out ) If you like to gamble, not far from Thailand, then i suppose its a good place for you. Their casino is open 24/7 with mostly philipine staff with some thai and from burma. The first floor offers slot machines and the second floor are the tables, where you can play lots of thai games ( pok daeng, etc ) You also have blackjack and rollette. Poker lovers will have to be dissapointed, they do not run t hese games nowadays.
Not what we had hoped”
My husband and I went for a weekend to the Grand Andaman specifically to play the slots and have a good time. The hotel itself is lovely, open to the air and very well done. The food was good. Two things made the weekend not what we had hoped: first, none of the staff speaks English. Each person will tell you that he or she does when asked, but then if you follow up with a question or comment, the staff person looks like a deer caught in the headlights. The reason, we think, that what should be a five star hotel is not is because they cannot serve an international traveler with no English, and it doesn't appear that they want to learn. The casino downstairs, the game room, has imported 1cent machines from the states, but has tripled the cost of playing them, so I went through $250 in less than three hours, just betting the minimum on the machines. Obviously, they don't hit very much, but the cost just to play seemed unreasonable. The staff was nice, but often confused because they couldn't communicate. It took four people in the duty free shop, all of whom told me I couldn't use my credit card to purchase items because the internet didn't work, finally figured out that it did. We had the same experience when checking out. So there were frustrations and we are not fussy travelers. Further, we are guessing that they can't afford to do the upkeep on their professionally designed golf course because they don't market adequately and have no English speaking staff. Disappointing that it was closed. We won't return for a second visit, but there were aspects that we did enjoy. Beautiful wildlife seen from the hotel: horn bills, monkeys and some squirrels, but there is no way to walk around the island despite the fact that they advertise having access to the 1,800 acres on the island. Access is restricted to the hotel basically.
All in one hotel”
This is our second time at Andaman clu, the first was in May last year. Excellent value to money hotel and equiped with all the activities that our group likes. There are golf, gaming, spa, swimming pool, and snooker club. That's enough to keep us busy for the 3 days. Perfect. The bathroom could use some improvement though.
Beautiful location, best recreation”
Everything is perfectly organised. You have to start at Andaman Club Pier. there is easy parking and perfect service in regard of getting on the ferry boat. luggage is taken care of. same customerfriendly organisation on the island by itself. You must not care of your luggage. Immigration is aprocedure of only a couple of minutes. Fast check-in, friendly staff. Our room had a nice view to the sea and so do most of the others.
Lovely hotel and location”
Went to Andaman club to renew Thai visa . It's located on an Island in Myanmar ( Burma)just a short ride by hotels boat from their jetty north of Ryong. Hotel is big lots of facilities but few guests . Great for a short stay, service good, we were outnumbered by staff!! Great views.
Lovely views ”
We had a lovely stay at The Andaman Club, the room was a decent size, comfortable bed and a great bathroom. Good size balcony with pool and sea views. We stayed in a superior room which stated that there was tea/ coffee facilities.......but there wasn't! Extremely difficult to get a pot of hot water to make our own tea in the morning but did eventually get one. The staff were lovely and very helpful. Had the evening buffet which was fine but not very warm, breakfast in the morning was great with so many choices. Looking forward to returning.
Questionable ”
My second visit to the hotel, staff were very friendly rooms have exceptional view, pool is amazing pool keeper good worker however food is absulatey terrible ,no excuse I can easily say unetable maybe the cook worked in Devils island prison before to cook here.mark my word you will stay hungry thank god I brought some cheese and crackers. Including the breakfast egg bacon freezing cold,I saw cocrochers both days 1 came out the toaster 1 by the eggs and bacon.Lunch was unetable they even screwed up burger ! Too bad I wold have like to return to this hotel again but now is questionable ,there is no excuse for this kind of hotel such a food. You have been warned take cheese and crackers :)
Nice Holiday”
Adventural trip to the island some outdoor entertainments offered. Hotel rooms better than average but need some small renovations. If they invest in some improvements it could be a 4 star plus hotel. Casino very asian, chinese baccarat, three card poker and tiger dragon no other games. Slots modern and ok. Free soft drinks and several times free buffet in casino. Food in restaurant was just average. Bufett was dissapointing. Breakfast bufett good but ask for hot eggs, bacon, ham. Menue average quality, they wont get a michelin star. Staff very friendly. Nice view from the rooms. Pool nice, little too much chlorine. Over all enjoyable stay.
Good stay quiet location”
Pros, This was quite a nice hotel to stay in. Food in restaurant very good, good hotel choice for a visa run, rooms were super clean, nice pool (but a little hot), excellent car parking at Thai side crossing, immigration process in and out very good, small but lucky casino(my wife won a few dollars), good check in / out. Cons, no bar in casino for a drink, limited shady seating at pool area, hotel near nothing of interest.
Hotel that can cater more than visa-run”
Many people who stay in Thailand seem to come to this hotel in an island in Myanmar as part of visa renewal trip. Also, local tourists from other cities in Myanmar are the main guests on weekends when the hotel offer a special dinner and show package. The hotel has a nice pool, a kids club, and a Spa, but when we wanted to go on a snorkelling trip (which was advertised as a tour at the reception), we were told that it was not available due to a bad weather, and then later since it requires a min. of 15 people. Also, the reception first refused to arrange a trip to a beach on the other side of the island because “… all staff are occupied for the preparation for an evening event….”. After much lard negotiation, they agreed to arrange the transport for us (Note: There is no public transport on the island, so all must be arranged by the hotel). When we got to the beach, we were greeted by a calm, palm fringed beach with golden sand. We were the only guest (again) on a long stretch of the beach. Hotel staff who accompanied us brought a table, deck chairs, a parasol, floaters, etc, etc, just for us. The hotel should promote more this very special service/ location they have.
Comfortable, hassel free, shuttle from boat, good ”
We had an enjoyable stay, had the pool and gym to ourselves, recommend the pepper prawns at the Victoria cafe
Did this as a border run”
You like to gamble your money and in Thailand ? look no further than The Andaman Club.
Extremely nice, clean and friendly.”
the breakfast was excellent apart from the pre-cooked fried eggs which were looking a bit dried up, plenty of everything else though. no hot water to my 3rd floor room showers. for anybody looking for a large duty free shop, forget it. theirs is adequate but very small. but i will use this hotel again
Strange, but comfortable”
Our stay met expectations, after reading all the reviews here, and given the relatively affordable price we knew not to expect full on 5 star facilities. We spent one night here for a visa run, and it was perfect for that purpose. Pools are nice, food isn't great but there's good variety (don't spend extra to get imported steak!!). Staff were a mixed bag, plenty of staff around, some more helpful than others. Casino is smallish but open 24 hours, so if you want to park yourself at the Blackjack table it's fine, dealers were helpful and friendy. All in all not bad, but certainly strange. Hardly any other guests, looks like it would have kicked arse in the 80s.
relax, nice ocean view”
We stayed there on our visa run. The room is quite spacious with a terrace and a nice ocean view. there were some monkeys fooling around in the garden and 2 sea eagles flying around. We visited the casino in the evening, most thai and chinese people, only 1 Black Jack table and 2 Bok Deng. was fun. No ATM machine on the hole island. Breakfast was okay, nice pool but unfortunately it was raining that day. Very relaxing stay, few people
A 5 star hotel lost on an island”
It is very impressive to see such spacious and big hotel in the middle of nowhere. Do not believe the bad comments about the small and smoky casino and the US dollars corruption... Now everything is in THAI MONEY. The casinos are big and updated. Rooms are excellent. Monkeys are agressive so nobody can enjoy th beach. This hotel is always empty. Do not belive The websites telling "% last Rooms" this is a trick from Hotel management to feel full... Their is nobody there!
Kettle, free coffee/tea packed, safe box not found in room”
As an 5-star hotel should have all the above provided / installed in the room. Even an 3-4 star hotel have all the above provided. Should need improvement on the above
