Grand Borneo Hotel in Kota Kinabalu, Borneo”

New, clean, has a great pool and is located inside a luxury mall.
Far from town.

Grand Borneo is next to Novatel and Tune at Borneo 1 shopping mall about 30 minutes north of downtown. Kota Kinabalu is over-priced, thusly, making this hotel a great deal through Agoda. This site is best suited for business people. All the tours are located back in town. The FREE mall shuttle to downtown runs on the hour at the back of the mall-see info center for login. Mt. Kinabalu is about 2 hours away - we went to town and got the small bus for 15R. Great for adventurists and backpackers. Swimming on the beach is not an option and even the islands are dirty. The taxi mafia are everywhere! I would not label it a tourist site!

Great location hotel”

Room is clean, modern furniture, direct access to shopping mall

this hotel is located in the shopping mall 1 borneo complex. there are 4 hotels in this complex: novotel, grand borneo, tune hotel and courtyard. we booked at grand borneo for 2 rooms, stayed there for two nights with my family. we arrived late midnight, the check in officer was ready to process our reservation. we got rooms at 5th floor. the room is not so big, but clean with modern furniture. it is good enough for two persons. the bed was also good so after check in we slept well. lcd tv is available inside the room but the tv channel was limited. anyway we will not stay the whole day inside the room. we booked the rooms without breakfast so in the morning we went down to the minimarket/convenience store "orange" (next left to the hotel) or 7-11 to buy light meal and drink. however, we can had our breakfast at per person at the hotel. for lunch or dinner we can buy the food at the 1 borneo hypermall complex. we can go to the city centre with scheduled shuttle bus (it is free) provided by the mall, the station is located at the north wing of the mall. you may inquire the time table at the hotel concierge. enjoy the trip and have fun at kota kinabalu!

Stay at Grand Borneo Hotel”

As the hotel is only 1 year old, the room is clean and in very good condition. Everything is working fine, including the air-conditioning system. Hotel staff are friendly, helpful and responsive to requests.
The swimming pool is indoors and does not get the sunlight. The pool water tends to be cold, and therefore not attractive for a swim.

Grand Borneo Hotel offers good value for money. The room rate is attractive. The room is clean and in very good condition as the hotel was opened in mid 2008. It also offers a good decent buffet breakfast that comes with the room. It is located next to 1Borneo mall, which offers a good range of shopping and food choices. The main drawback is its location. It is located away from the city central and the ferry terminal. It is also located further away from the airport. This is somewhat compensated by the bus shuttle service to the city central that is offered by 1Borneo mall. However, the bus shuttle service is somewhat restrictive in that it comes at 1-hourly and half-hourly intervals depending on the time of the day and does not operate during dinner time. You may end up taking taxi instead of the bus shuttle service. Therefore, you can expect to incur more commuting time and cost when you stay at this hotel as compared with the hotels located in the city central.

Lovely hotel.”

Hotel value for money

Bedroom furniture beautiful, spacious and clean. Locations near 1 Borneo, one of the largest Mall in east Malaysia. Just go out the back door is shooping mall. The hotel is 25 minutes by taxi from airport. Free daily car from a Borneo shutle bus to downtown. Breakfast at the hotel are also quite good. The dining room is spacious, beautiful view. My family will be at Grand Borneo again when to Kota Kinabalu.

modern, clean and very convenient as it is just above the 1Borneo Hypermall shopping complex. The breakfast in Seoul Cafe in the hotel is really good and serves a wide variety buffet.

I enjoyed my stay at Grand Borneo very much. Friendly and helpful staff. Modern and clean with all the facilities and convenience. The free shuttle service at 1 Borneo Hypermall makes it very convenient to go to the Kota Kinabalu CBD. Overall, this hotel is good value for money.

lovely Hotel with good & friendly service”

Service of staff & prompt help

Lovely hotel with good facilities, friendly staff & good prompt service. Only location is a little far from Kota Kinabalu town. But have one borneo mall, which was more than sufficient for our shopping or dining needs, but could increase in Sabah products whether food, clothes, accesories, decorative items, etc. (to specify clearly it is Sabah products). Hotel Food was good but breakfast variety could be more. hotel transport could be more reasonably priced.

Love the hotel, lovely staffs.”

Easy access to oneborneo shopping mall, free shuttle bus to city, grand deluxe room with city view (wow!!) quick-respond services

We've booked a grand deluxe room for 3 nights stay (unfortunately our flight to KK on the first night got delayed). We arrived in KK the next morning. We went to the receptionist to check-in. Greeted and welcome by the staff named Ms Siti. She was really polite and helpful. The check-in process was super fast since we booked our room through. Then, we went to our room on the 9th floor. First impression of the room, wow! Breath-taking view of the city from our room. The room was quite big for my wife and I. Overall we were quite satisfied with the room, despite minor things (e.g. the windows, wardrobe, quilt, refrigerator, safety deposit) needs to give attention to. Overall, we were happy, fully satisfied and hope to stay in Grand Borneo hotel in the near future.

grand Borneo stay January2010”

Lovely clean rooms. good comfy beds and linen Mmmm. very friendly helpful staff. good English. Entry into Borneo central from hotel which is large modern mall. food available in Mall. Closer to Kinabalu park etc.
Better to stay in town as apart from mall -No where to go at night as is 20mins away from city centre. cAN'T JUST GO WANDERING. About 30MYR to town. Opposite side of town to airport so earlier start for flights too.

The Grand Borneo is just one year old so is in it's heyday. Everything sparkling clean including the smiles and greetings from the staff. Beds are comfy. quiet. It is basically in a satellite city. on the way to Mt Kinabalu and Tanjung aru. Downside is apart from the modern mall (where u feel like u haven't left home so the point is??) there is nothing to do at night. unless this is your go, next time I will stay in the city centre so you can wander in the mornings or at night. People generally in Borneo were outstanding everywhere. we love the place and will go back but not to the Grand because of location only.

Foods and services at Square Restaurant

The Grand Borneo was a lovely place for a base to experience Kota Kinabalu sabah. Located in the biggest shopping mall - 1 Borneo, very convenient to shopping and alternative places to eat (you have a lot of choices within / outside the mall). The car park is free if you able to park outside of the hotel else you need to park into mall parking but it's RM2 per day only(weekday), very cheap!! You just need around 30 mins to go to the centre of town (KK) and taxis are always available. Room is very comfortable, clean and staff very friendly. The food and services at Square Restaurant is great.

Great Rooms and Guest Lounge”

Lovely Grand Deluxe room, guest lounge with free flow drinks all day, fantastic bath tub

we booked the grand deluxe room from grand borneo hotel, which was the best available in agoda. when we arrived, the front desk informed us that we have been upgraded to the executive suite. we were very pleased at first. when we checked in at the suite, the room was huge, with living area and spacious bathroom. however, the bath tub design was far from the grand deluxe room we had anticipated (and saw) from the agoda website. since there were just 3 of us, we demanded to be "downgraded" to the smaller (but more cosy) grand deluxe room. though there was some hesitation on this move, we were vindicated with the grand deluxe room. great bath tub with view from the window. the beds were comfortable, and the room was clean (almost brand new).

Friendly Staffs

I did stay 2 night at Grand Borneo Hotel with a gallery room. Once checked in only realize the room was in twin bed type only. since i did paid the hotel in advance so nothing to do and unable to change due to fully book. Suprise that once i back to my room after shopping, they help us to combine the twin bed and add a bed cover to make it look like a queen bed. Thanks for the great service. definately will return to this hotel for my next visit.

One Stop Point to various places (restaurants, shopping, cinema)

i have a satisfied stay 2 nights here. i have stayed here more than 3 times. it is actually depends on what you need when you stay at any hotel/area in kota kinabalu. for me, this hotel embedded together as if once you booked this hotel then you get a separate packages as shopping in 1 borneo (most famous shopping complex in kota kinabalu), choice of restaurants (you can try a nyonya restaurant in 1b, very delicious and good food), cinema (gsc). other than that, if you prefer to use the hotel facilities, swimming pool is also provided at 1 level in the hotel building.

A perfectly pleasant experience”

Great staff, excellent room, and strategic location if you don't need to be in the city

i was really pleasantly surprised by grand borneo and would gladly stay there again. check in was effortless and pleasant and the rooms are ample in size (i.e. you don't knock things off tables if you turn around too quickly like some of those hole-in-the wall so called boutique hotels in kk warisan square. yes, the hotel is a bit out of town but my meetings were nearby anyway. all the important things were provided - comfy and clean beds, lovely pillows, safe, fridge, and hot shower. clever design and good use of space, like the sliding wardrobe. the door staff were also very attentive and helpful. housekeeping brought an iron when i called and left it with me for the duration of the three-day stay. the only major grouse i have was that the lan wireless seemed never to be on late at night and early in the morning. this is the kind of thing that can really put you out if you are traveling for business. all in all, a good effort from the hotel - let's hope they keep it up!

Great hotel & great value”

1) Beside 1Borneo HyperMall. 2) Great view of Mt Kinabalu. 3) Helpful staff. 4) Great swimming pool.
1) A bit far from KK City. 2) Not all the shops in 1Borneo opened. 3) Massage shop beside the hotel is expensive.

Stayed in Mercure Hotel during my recent trip to Kota Kinabalu and had a great experience. The hotel is new and my assigned room has a fantastic view of Mt Kinabalu. I loved waking up on the morning and be greeted by the beautiful sight of the mountains amongst the fogs. The hotel staff is very helpful. I approached the front desk staff to assist in the rental of a car for use for the next day at almost midnight one of the night. The staff was extremely commendable as he searched several agencies and arranged for a car for me at a good rates. My stay in Kota Kinabalu was indeed greatly complimented by the great services of the hotel. I would definitely be staying in Mercure again should I return to Kota Kinabalu.

lovely hotel with great service”

cleanliness, location, rain shower,

Hubby and I really enjoyed our stay at Grand Borneo. We travelled with another couple and we were pleased with the hotels amenities. The pool is a good size and hardly anybody uses it so we all had a good time relaxing there. The hotel room is a bit small but still fits 2 people comfortably. The worst part of the stay is that upon check in, they had ran out of rooms with King-sized beds and so they had to put us into rooms that had 2 twin beds - which ended up not being much of a problem since we just put the two beds together. The best part of this hotel is that it is right next to the mall. Lots of places to eat and lots of places to shop. It is kind of far from city central but it is not hard to get to the city at all from the hotel. The staff are very polite and accommodating. They even allowed us late check-up for no extra charge.

Great hotel”

Built in to a shopping mall

We had a deluxe suit which was very nice and spacious, very comfortable beds. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is part of Borneo 1 mall so shopping is very easy, breakfast wasn't included but when payed for it was a good buffet. If you get the chance then book a trip at the tour desk in the lobby to see the Oran Utans! It was a great experience for us. The hotel is located out of Kota Kinabalu Center but there is a free shuttle in to town from the Borneo 1 mall and back which was extremely helpful. Don't expect sunbathing by the pool as the pool is sheltered and the sun only lasts a couple of hours on the terrace.
