      Good value”

This place is not the Ritz which is very obvious by the price. I found it was clean enough and I got a room at a ridiculously cheap price which I was very happy with. I am a repeat customer so I knew what to expect. My single room cost me $45 per night and it is basically just a room with a bed and a window, but that's exactly what I wanted, I was there only to sleep and spent the rest of the weekend out and about at the wonderful Kiama Blues festival. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't expect anything Grand about the Grand hotel. I will stay there again next year when I am back there for the festival.

      Cheap and cheerful”

You get what you pay for. The rooms are functional and the hotel is in walking distance to the Main Street and Kiama Blow Hole. Our room didn’t have a PowerPoint but there are plenty in the halls. We were on the top fall which was a bit of a hike up the stairs. Over all would stay here again.

Basic room, with 2 beds, towels and a chair. No power points, so no tv, kettle, alarm clock, or fan.”

The hotel is very old, historically. Good location, a walk away from Kiama station, shops & blow hole. The room I had, only 1 window stayed open(needs maintenance), there were no power points in the room so I had to go out to the share sitting room to watch TV & charge the ph, like other visitors. No fan in the room so might be uncomfortable in summer. Stairs to rooms was narrow & had creaking floors. Bed was comfortable and warm, the shower I used was good & lots of hooks to hang your things & room to move in. I stayed due to work in the area so all I wanted was a bed & shower. Has street parking. I stay there cause it was a cheap stay away.

Two day stay in Kiama - back packing”

We spent 2 nights in Kiama and found this hotel, as it was the cheapest accommodation option. We actually quite enjoy our stay here as we needed the bare minimum, which was a bed and shower- as we only slept in our rooms and was out for most of the day. The staff was lovely here & extremely helpful. Note there are no electric plugs , AC, Fan or wifi in your room & The bathrooms are shared on each floor ( split by gender). Overall a nice place to stay , in terms of staff and general cleanliness off the rooms if you’re on a budget.

Was under no illusion of what I was going to get ,very basic room , but very cheap , it’s is dated but it is a very old pub , it could use a bit of a face lift ,but seriously it is still a pub,and you should realise that when you book , I’ve read a lot of these other reviews and fair dinkum those wingers are just a bit to precious , the bed was super comfortable , the room was clean , the windows did open , the shower pumped and was always hot,the bar staff were a great bunch of young ones , and very helpfull and the food from the restaurant was fantastic (check out the fish tacos),it’s location was perfect for my function walking distance to everything ,true there was no fan or power points in the room but hey if you want all those extras pay the extra money for something else and stop winging , it ticked all my boxes and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again ,thanks again to the bar staff you were great guys

3mins walk to Kiama Blowhole & Kiama village”

Location is good. Kiama train station is located behind of the hotel. Hotel is pretty old but the staff is friendly. The famous Kiama Blowhole & light house just 2mins by car. Is walkable. Parking at night is free. Sharing bathroom. Shower is the best point of the hotel. Self check out before 10am by dropping room key at the old wooden box beside the staircase.

      historical is no excuse”

If you want a bed and nothing more, then the Grand Hotel is ideal. It is located very close to the station, and an easy walk from the town centre and blowhole/lighthouse precinct. The bedding and towels were clean, bed comfortable. The hotel is old - the carpet is worn, there are chips and stains in the bathroom, no powerpoints in the room, and no lifts. That is all expected in an old building, and didn't cause me concern. What there is no excuse for is the lack of maintenance and basic cleaning. The bathroom floor was not swept for the 3 days I was there, a tap was leaking so badly that there was water all over the floor. The fridge in the hall lounge area was so iced up it barely closed, coffee/tea making facilities had no cups, the cupboard was falling apart. These are care and maintenance issues.

Based on other reviews I was prepared for the worst however was pleasantly surprised! Yes, the building is dated but staff are extremely friendly and helpful, bathrooms are clean, bed was comfortable and the location is convenient. Come prepared with a power bank for charging your phone otherwise powerpoints are available on the communal area only.

It was the cheapest hotel room in Kiama and you get what you pay for. Quite rowdy crowd at night and we were woken up in the middle of the night by someone throwing up below our window.

Very basic accomadation but worth it for price per night. No air con but nice breeze at night with windows open. The staircase to top rooms are steep and an effort to take suitcases etc up. We never had a single staff member speak to us after we picked up room key. Music loud at night Appears to be a very busy venue on weekends We would still stay here again as cheap close to beach and comfy beds

facilities very old, and the reception close quite early in the weekdays, you can't check in late. I left a note mentioned that i will be late check in when I did the booking (my flight arrive at 7.30 pm, by the time i get to the hotel already around 10 pm), but they didn't inform me if I can late check in. So i was forced to sleep inside my car (luckily i was driving) for that night. But then it's very nice of them, they compensate me with a free night stay.

An experience, one that I wouldn't like to repeat.”

      Location, staff & bar.

The bar downstairs was nice with friendly staff, hotel ideally located with beach & shops nearby. Unfortunately the rooms leave a lot to be desired, entire contents of room was bed & bedside table, no even a power point. Bedding & linen where clean, but unfortunately the shared bath rooms & the lounge area where not.

      Character building”

Pros: location, reasonably priced beer. Cons: only really cons if you are a stickler for things like electricity, sofas that don't smell like old sausages, curtains securely attached to walls, and basins in bathrooms. Otherwise it was a wonderful voyage of discovery, with a real frisson of excitement at the potential risk of contracting flesh eating diseases from the furniture.

      Good location, cheap rates,

Overall poor, no power points in rooms, place is run down and needs a bit of work. About half of the showers and toilets were out of service. No security door between the public and the accommodation areas of the hotel. A shared common area with a TV within the hallway was too small an area.

Fawlty towers with an ice cold shower...”

Central location and... it had a roof. Did I mention the location?

Let me preface this review by stating that it is a pub and thus the premises is intended to be budget accommodation. I usually wouldn't take the time to write a review, however I felt in this case it warranted my time. A fantastic location near the shopping strip and in a lovely town concludes the positive points. Now to the negative (or should I say constructive). Once receiving my key from behind the bar I proceeded to my room up 2 flights of stairs and cigarette stained carpet that were renovated in approximately 1905. Once opening the door to my room I was greeted by what could be best described as the smell of a dead possum. I opened the windows all afternoon to attempt to clear the odour, but to no avail. It is my fault to assume that paying for a nights accommodation to sleep would mean that I would get sleep. Once the live music and shouting outside my very thin window died down around 1am, there proceeded a flurry of slammed doors as everyone came back to their rooms. I finally knocked our around 2am to be woken by some loud noises outside my room at 5am. As I was awake I decided to head for the showers. Hot tap on....no hot. So, an ice cold shower later I packed up and walked out the door at 6am. In summary that was officially the worst nights accommodation I have ever had. I have stayed places for $25 a night that were far better than this ($69 a night). I would give this establishment a total score of 1.5 stars, with 2 stars being sleeping in your car for the night.

The room itself was a good size with real good beds, though it could have had it’s own power point or two. The shared bathroom had a showerhead that was really leaky and it seemed like the staff didn’t really check on it as they may have been mainly bar staff. Though the food was good when we went down to the bar.
