Ideal for a weekend around the marathon ”
We stayed at Grand Hotel Nouvelle Opera for the weekend as my partner was competing In the marathon We had a standard double room and it was perfect for our needs The room was clean and overlooked the street Staff were exceptionally friendly and on hand to help 24 hours a day At night there was noise ( babies crying/people moving around) from other guests but in a hotel of that size/age its to be expected Breakfast was available for €8.95 and consisted of hot beverages,OJ ,water, bread, cheese, cereals, pastries, fresh fruit, eggs, yoghurt ,preserves, honey, and puréed apple Situated close to the metro and two points on the marathon course this was ideal for us
Paris Holiday ”
For a 3 star hotel it was worth all the money spent. The staff was extemely helpful and could speak in English. The room was quite small but convenient the bed and pillows were comfortable and clean. The bath -shower was good size and water with good pressure and temperature they only mishap is the washhand basin it is ridiculously small and they had enough room to fit a larger one. The towels were always changed to clean ones but I would have preferred to have white towels and not grey. Rooms are not airconditioned but if you open the window it's enough. A small tip, would be great if you take a travelling kettle. The location is safe to walk even at night and walking distance from 2 main Metro station, Voltaire station - green line No9 and Bastille Metro - yellow lines No1 from these lines you can go anywhere in Paris in no time. Another tip while you are in Paris near the tourist attractions young girls will come to you with a petition form to fill in, for the needs of the deaf people. It is a scam and a rip off. Ignore they are only after your money as soon as you sign they ask you for a €10 donation and it will not be easy to tell them off once you sign. On the whole we loved it and we will definitely go again. Hope this helps for an unforgettable stay in Paris.
for Paris excellent value as aplace to just stay”
start with the basic concept that unless you pay plenty, a Paris hotel is somewhere to sleep close to a metro. How many waking minutes do you actually spend in your hotel room in Paris?? This is a few minutes walk to Voltaire metro which is on a convenient line. It was also only a pleasant 10 mins walk to Bastille and its open air Sunday market. It is actually a residential area so fairly quiet and although on a main road the windows are double glazed and very effective. The exterior was being painted during our stay ( which we were aware of when booking). We had a look at some of the other rooms which are being currently renovated. I have to say our bathroom was tiny and poorly laid out - strictly a one person at a time bathroom and was the least impressive aspect. Room was clean and well serviced daily with towels and the photos on the website actually reflected the rooms (not always the case in Paris). bed comfortable. Breakfast convenient and ok if you want it before you go out but nicer to go across or up the road for ambience at same cost. staff were to us at all times helpful and friendly - maps, info and transport - all spoke good English - luggage storage available prior to check in and departure with our very early (6.30am arrival) and late (9.50pm departure) I saw some of the other less complimentary reviews of this hotel which seem to be not objective vis a vis Paris. I have stayed in Paris hotels for over 30 years now all in this lower end and I must say that this is the first I would actually go back to. In summary basic but very good value. internet good and free use of downstairs desktop as well
Was Okay, overpriced small room despite location”
After visiting a lot of hotels you come to appreciate the friendly staff smiling at your service as the receptionists were at Grand Hotel Nouvel Opera. The room however was too small, so was the shower and toilette ( If u drop a soap forget about picking it up). My girl and i stayed there for 3 nights and wished there was a bit more space. 1 small bottle of water was offered for 2 persons on check in, not 2, just 1. That was not renewed with every time the room was cleaned during our 3 nights stay. Its a minor detail but small things make a difference when u notice them. Hair dryer was a phenomenal prototype. Breakfast is a very small menu for 10€ that was not worth it(again compared to what I usually expect In hotel breakfasts was missing) Location is good 4 min away for metro. Thank you for the hospitality but we will not be visiting again.
Geat Hotel, Wonderful Staff”
The neighborhood is beautiful and charming and short walk to the metro. The staff members were all so pleasant, helpful and accomodating. I can’t wait to go back to Paris and this hotel Pros Staff Neighborhood Proximity to Metro Confortable bed Cost Cons I really don’t have any cons to add. If this is your first hotel in Eurppe you may take issue with the tub but other than that I don’t see how you could complain.
Well located in Paris - good access to attractions”
I enjoyed my stay in the hotel - it is what is says it is. The location is great - Voltaire metro is close by and is a few stops from Nation and Republique which are interchanges for other lines making most attractions easy to reach. There are several nice bistro and restaurants nearby too. Breakfast is good value for money. The lack of air-conditioning proved to be a minor challenge as it was summer. Opening the window provided ventilation, but the street noise means you can't really sleep with the window open when you have street-side rooms. Notwithstanding, the hotel was comfortable, the rooms clean, and facilities good. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would likely return to this hotel when visiting Paris again.
Good value”
Decent, no frills hotel at a central-ish location, close to Bastille with interesting bars and restos, from walking distance to Notre Dame. Very good value for the price (it was cheaper than getting a dorm bed in a hostel!)
Great for a quick night in Paris”
This hotel was great for a quick stop through paris for a night. It was small but had everything we needed. It was great value for the amount we paid. We arrived late and didn't have any trouble checking in. The staff were nice and very helpful. The price is hard to beat and the location was only a few blocks from the metro. There are lots of food places and boulangerie a near by so you won't go hungry.
Affordable and good location”
Our stay was very pleasant. the staff was very nice and helpful. Our room was clean and bigger than I expected for a room in Paris. The staff was able to arrange an affordable shuttle to the airport on our departure day. There are numerous cafes, grocery stores and bakeries within walking distance and things in this area are cheaper than some others (such as Montmartre for example).
Very noisy”
The hotel is well located to metro station, the rooms are manageable no more than two people in a double. The bathrooms were big enough, small sink but that's also manageable. No shower curtains but you get a lot of towels. lots of restaurants, cafe and patisseries, not a noisy neighborhood, the hotel itself is very noisy, before I booked I read the reviews and thought people were just whining, it's very noisy, you will hear EVERYTHING ( keep in mind when traveling with children) some neighbors were quite inconsiderate and would give lots of audio play, banging on their walls sometimes helped. The staff was fantastic, very helpful. We were in Paris for a month and this was our worst hotel, there are better places for same price.
Good location yet away from tourist crowd”
Pros: - gd location near to voltaire(5min) and bastille (10min) metro - supermarkets and many eateries around esp at bastille area - recep staffs are friendly - comfy bed - clean bathroom Cons: - room size a bit small for 2 cabin bags - lift is tiny and takes a long time to arrive during peak hours
Great stay in Paris”
Rooms are a tad small (the one I stayed in anyway) and the lift is a mystery but the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The hotel is quiet and is located in a beautiful part of Paris which is a short metro ride from anywhere you need to be. There are lots of little cafes and shops in the near vicinity as well which was wonderful when we just felt like a drink and watching the world go by.
Great location!”
Wonderful location that helps you get acquainted with Paris! Their breakfast is delicious and plentiful! Beds are nice and soft! The staff is very helpful! A must stay!
Great value, good location with a little walk”
Wifi connection was fast. Room is small, but hey, it's Paris. You won't spend too much time indoors anyway.
Good hotel, a bit far”
Location was ok, about 20 min walk from The Bastille. Room was nice and comfortable beds. The elevator is super small, but at least they have one. Staff was friendly and joking around. No AC. Bathrooms are very small - remind me of dorm rooms.
Great Location, suggest it is more a 2 star hotel”
Great location but not posh, nearest metro Voltaire. There's a supermarket 5 mins away that's open late, nice boulangerie and monoprix near the metro station. Small market on Saturday also near the metro. Nice walking down the streets towards Bastille with lots of places to eat and shop and quite Boho/Hipster. About a 15 mins walk to Place de Voges and 20 mins to the Marais. Facilities basic but functional. The radiator in my room didn't really work but there was a heater that could be switched on and was very efficient. My only criticism was that not convinced the cleaning was very thorough. Lots of fluff under the twin beds and one day had to leave a note requesting more loo paper! But would stay there again. Did not find it noisy, maybe I was lucky? If you're on a budget I would definitely stay here. Storage for your luggage is available after check out. It is labelled and locked away, which is reassuring. Reception staff were variable but everyone spoke English.
Overall not a place I would recommend”
The three best things that can be said are - clean sheets, hot water and friendly reception. Otherwise look elsewhere if you require any form of comfort. The rooms are old and basic, the hairdryer was hanging off the wall (literally with wires exposed), fittings all a bit grubby, no shower gel or shampoo. Towels were thin, cheap loo paper. Room safe did not work, phone did not work - these were there just for show. Family members staying in another room found the same (phone and room safe did not work). This is not a 3 star hotel - at a very hard push can't even see how this could be 2 star or 1 star. Overall, would not recommend - there are plenty of other hotels in Paris with a 2 star rating which offer much more than the Grand Opera Nouvel
good value for money”
It was a comfortable stay of 5 nights in this hotel. Room cleaning was OK, excellent location, 5 minutes walk to line 9 Voltaire Metro station and 12-15 minutes walk to the better connected Bastille station. There are ample of buses too. Convenient stores and restaurants (and a small supermarket) along the same street as the hotel. There is also a coin operated laundrette 3 minutes away along the same road. Consistent hot water. The bath room is not as comfortable with the protruding mirror making it hard to use the sink properly especially when you are brushing your teeth (the protruding mirror blocked your head from going in to the area above the sink). Otherwise its relatively clean and functional. Heating is good during winter. There were 4 receptionists we met during our 5 days stay. 2 of the male receptionists were really unfriendly and barely greets or talk to guests. However, the other 2; especially one of the lady were very helpful, kind and very nice. That balanced it off. Overall, good value for money. Its cheap for its location and service. Would consider staying in the same hotel again if my budget remains the same.
Good hotel for this price”
I stayed in the hotel for 2 nights, better speak french if not the stuff is not so nice. For this price I think that is a good hotel in Paris, off course you have ever been in Paris in some hotel, so you can compare, because even for 150 euros, you can have a smell small room. So this hotel was good, quite in the center of Paris. I did not take a breakfast because finally the stuff guy on the reception did not recommend it.:) Friendly guy at the end.
Good location, good price, small rooms”
We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. What we liked: - Price. - Plenty of places to get food nearby. - About 200m walk to nearest Metro station. - Close to the center. - Good service, English speaking staff. What we didn't like: - Very small rooms. - One night the warm water in the shower ran out.
