Five star hotel for three star price”

Locaion, staff friendliness, value for money

I was upgraded when I arrived to a king size bed facing the Forbidden City. It's pretty hard to complain about that. The staff spoke English very well. My room was clean and well decorated. It is within 5 minutes walking distance of the Forbidden City and Tian 'amen square. I wasn't actually expecting much given the price. But, I will definitely be staying at the Grand Hotel on my next trip to Beijing. Make sure you get the name of the hotel in Chinese. The Chinese name is different so taxis might not know where you mean. The only thing I would change about the hotel is the carpets in the halls. They need replacing. But, this was not a serious issue. I would give the place 9.5/10 on a value for money scale.

                Overlooks the Forbidden City”

Elegant and tasteful decor. Truly helpful staff. Location. Pool/gym facilities.
Not many restaurants within walking distance but hotel restaurant of a good standard, though taxis are plentiful and inexpensive. Hotel staff will write down address of restaurants you may wish to go to in Chinese for the taxi driver.

Outstanding hotel in the center of the cultural heart of Beijing. Spacious, well appointed rooms with elegant furniture. Lobbies and lounges with tasteful decor. Luxurious bathroom with separate shower and bath. Lovely swimming pool and gym facilities. Helpful staff with a good standard of English. A couple of minutes walk from Tian'anmen Square, Forbidden City and Wangfujing street, with easy access to the metro system. A truly memorable experience to stay there and I would highly recommend it to any discerning traveler.

                Location, Facilities, Staff

i have studied in beijing and was fairly familiar with the geography of the city and that was a major factor in picking this hotel. i was not let down. the grand hotel is within walking distance of the wangfujing night market, the forbidden city, and tiananmen square. plus, it is just a short metro ride to the temple of heaven. if you are a first time visitor to beijing, this is the place to stay.

Best Hotel in Beijing for Chinese New Year!”

Great view of the Forbidden City, Helpful Staff, Great location

This hotel was way beyond our expectations. We came into Beijing at 7:00am from the airport and was able to check in right away. The staff was friendly and spoke English. The room was big, clean, and had all the deluxe hotel amenities and they served us fresh fruit! We were very pleased with our view of the Forbidden City because of the great firework display at night we could see clear across to the other side of the city! It only took us 5-10 minutes to walk over to the Forbidden City/Tianamin Sq. and in the opposite direction there is a great mall- Oriental Plaza with all fashion shopping needs, food courts and grocery stores in the basement. You can also catch the subway there, just one more floor down. We didn't eat at the hotel, but the buffet looked amazing. I highly recommend this hotel for all travelers and book early for a lower rate!

Walking distance to TienAnMun and WangFuJin

Stayed at this hotel at the end of August of 2011. It is right next to Beijing Hotel. The 2 hotels are interconnected and taking up the whole block. Beijing Hotel is at the side of WangFuJin and Grand Hotel is at the side of TienAnMun. We have two 2 double bed rooms for 4 Asians. Each double bed is good enough for 2 average asian, if you want to save money. We spent 4 nights in Beijing in 2 different hotels so to experience which hotel is better and we are glad we did. Grand Hotel has a bath tub and a separate shower which is very unusual for a hotel. So if you are in a hurry, 2 people can take shower at the same time. However, the enclosure of the shower is very bad. After we are done with the shower, it floods the outside/surrounding. Free wired network at the room and free wi-fi in lobby only. The wall has electrical outlet that can accomodate different type of plugs. In the other word, there is no need to have adapter provided. The hotel is fully paid for at the time of booking. However, at check-in, they ask for RMB $2,000 per room per night for deposit. It can be cash or credit card. Taxi to and from Beijing airport is about RMB $80 + $10 toll. The Concierge can help you to sign up for English-speaking tour. Be informed that they cost more much than Chinese-speaking tour. For your reference, Great Wall 1 day English-speaking tour is RMB $320 each. Half day WuTong (pedi-cab) English-tour is RMB $200 each. Definitely we prefer Grand Hotel over Beijing Hotel.

Every staff member was very helpful. Most spoke some English. Rooms were large and comfortable. They only had 3 tours to choose from, however, they were the popular tourist sites and were very easy to book. Walking distance to The Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square as well as what appeared to be the main shopping street in Beijing and some awesome street food markets.I would definately stay there again.

i stayed at the forbidden city view room which was fantastic for me. the fc was just below my window when i woke up. the view was stunning and i felt like an emperor in china. the food street is not far from the hotel, i walked up there to taste variety of chinese food. one block away from the hotel, it is the busiest street in beijing that provides hundreds of shops and restaurants. i enjoyed the stay very much and will be back to stay at this place for my next visit.

It's a very nice hotel. Good location, good price, and nice rooms. Staff is very nice and helpful.
There was not too much entertainment inside the hotel. The lobby is not very impressive.

All in all I thought this was a great hotel, especially considering the price. The room has everything you could need. It's clean and in good condition. Also the hotel is across the street from the Forbidden City. If you request it you can get a view from your room of the Forbidden City. The staff is also very nice and helpful.

I enjoy staying in Beijing Grand Hotel. This is a very beautiful traditional style hotel with modern comforts. Located close to the Forbidden City and other places of interest. Had a great view on the Forbidden City from my room. Swimming pool is beautiful but a bit too shallow on one end. Fantastic court yard. Great hotel for business and pleasure.

                Location, room and staff

Great staff and great location. However, I booked this because last time in china I stayed next door and heard about the lovely roof top bar with a view over for the forbidden city this hotel is famous for. It has unfortunately now closed down. So there are no bar/relaxing cafe facilities in the hotel - a let down while you are on holidays! The staff were lovely, but overall I found the staff and service at Raffles next door better. And they are in the same price range. Grand hotel was probably at its peak years ago, but now just feels neglected.

an old and well maintain deluxe hotel ”

                Location and deluxe

It is a very old but well maintained hotel. It is located at the center of Beijing. Wangfujing avenue is within walking distance. Tienonmun square is close by and we found it is very convenience to go anywhere in Beijing from this location. It is a deluxe 5 stars hotel with gold plated faucet and we found it is a flawless top class hotel.

                Doesn't Get Much Better”

                Location and Accommodation

i've been living in china for the past 2 years and have taken many excursions. my father and i stayed at the beijing grand hotel a few days prior to the 2011 new years (chinese), and the place was fantastic. beautifully designed, warm, clean, unbeatable service, and prime location to sight seeing/tourist attractions. through agoda, the hotel price was great if your are looking for a bit of luxury, but the individual backpacker might find it a bit expensive. all in all, a great place!

                Stay at Grand Hotel”

Pros: Excellent location. Walking distance to Tiananmen, Forbidden City, Wangfujing. By car easy reach to Ministries, Govt Business. Used mainly by Ministries n Govt to put up official guests. Cons: slightly old fashioned setting. Good for subdued atmosphere, if you are into that. Service is geared to officials who have their staff to ask for things. The first hotel I stayed in where there are no brochures detailing their services, restaurants! There is room service but no menu. But if you have 2/3 people looking after you, the above shortcomings are not a problem. The bar/coffee area is very boring. Unless you have "official" business to conduct there, there are more business/tourist friendly and modern hotels close by.

                Central Location with Big Rooms”

Close to Tiananmen Square and Wangfujing shopping/eating streets

the hotel is nicely situated in the central part of beijing, 5 minutes walk to tiananmen square, forbidden city, or wangfujing. it is also close to subway - which is no small advantage given the traffic condition on the ground. the area has limited taxi services, which we did not know before booking. the staff are friendly and helpful, but not as well trained as the hotels that we stayed in shanghai or hong kong. the guestrooms and bathrooms are spacious, and furniture/facilities are reasonable. unfortunately the rooms smell strongly with cigarette smoking. we even see people smoking at corridors or elevator. for this reason we are not likely to choose this hotel again.

                Luxurious Hotel in Beijing”

                Good location

Our stay was pleasant and relaxing. The room was quiet and comfortable. The service is attentive and sufficient for us. The hotel is in the center part of the city and has a great view of Forbidden City from our window. The night view is stunning. The only drawback was the taxi service. There were not enough taxi cabs coming to the hotel. Chinese people just jump into the car without standing in the line.

                Fabulous location for Forbidden City.”

Location, staff, views of Forbidden City.

This hotel can't be beat for location if you want to see the Forbidden City and be close to high end shopping, the subway, as well as an old-style "food street." Housekeeping was good but not fastidious. Staff helpful but didn't know anything about tours except the two they sell. We found the hotel restaurants much too expensive to eat in, more geared to expense-account crowd. It is very close to a huge mall with lots of restaurants, and the Marriot is right behind it with a more moderately priced restaurant. We booked through Agoda and got a good price.

                Very good luxury hotel”

convenient for shopping, near the places of interest, nice interior design.

The hotel is near Wangfujing street and many places of interest of Beijing. It will be a smart choice for foreign guests who want to sightseeing in Beijing. I booked the hotel for a friend of mine. He told me the staff are very friendly. I guess it will be quite a nice and comfortable experience for his foreign friends as the interior design is quite in ancient chinese style.

Excellent Location, comfy room & free wifi

the room is huge and clean !!! maybe the service @ the hotel should improve a bit more since it is a 5 stars hotel as i find their service is just passable nothing amazing. The room of the forbidden city is not really a good view as you could only see the roof top of the forbidden city nothing great about it.
