Wow we just loved everything about The Grand Hotel”
Such a beautiful place, a piece of history, set in the most wonderful town. It was so relaxing and we felt so well cared for. We were there the week after the bombings and although it was a sad time to be in Sri Lanka it we decided to go and support the people and the tourism industry. We felt very safe at The Grand Hotel. The most beautiful part of our stay was the staff. They were so friendly and warm. And they really seemed to enjoy working there. There was lots of laughter around the place. The indoor pool was stunning and so relaxing. The buffet breakfasts were spectacular and we had a great Indian meal in the resturant there. And the massages by the loveliest Balinese women were out of this world! Then we toured the Tea plantations and a tea factory. It really gave us a feel of the history of this town. We will remember it every day as we have a cuppa back home

Likely once in a lifetime experience ”
Places like The Grand Hotel are vanishing so it’s well worth capturing the experience now. The staff are lovely and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. The room was a little small but well appointed and clean and comfortable. The breakfast is outstanding whether a la carte or buffet. The egg hoppers, sambols and curries are authentic but they will make you an omelette or poached eggs etc. We had a good cappuccino too. They have an espresso machine. The cocktail bar is grand and beautiful and we gathered there for cocktails before dinner. Room service was good value and efficient. Can recommend the chocolate chip cake too! The terrace at the front overlooks the gardens where you can enjoy a drink or coffee and watch the world go by. A very relaxing place. The pool is indoor and looks like a Roman pool. The hotel is well located and you can walk into town by a short walk or to and from in a tuk tuk. The problems in Sri Lanka at present do not seem evident at this hotel. I have nothing negative to say. Only good things and I hope to return one day.

We’ve stayed here for 3 days during the New Year, and it was a great experience. The staff is friendly and willing to help, the location is at the very center, with mountains right from the window. The New Year celebration was amazing, with HUGE variety of food & drinks. We’ve won a pack of a good tea and wine during some activities there:) Would definitely recommend this place to anyone. A legendary hotel with the most amazing atmosphere I’ve experienced here.

Classy big hotel with gorgeous gardens”
Pros Old world hotel with an amazing atmosphere. Interiors have rich history while being modern and updated. Great location in town. Excellent experience at afternoon tea. They knew exactly what to do to arrange a half-day trip to Horton Plains Natl Park. Cons Dining is standard but not amazing. Surprising lack of good juices at breakfast. Indoor heated pool (ask ahead for the pool policy - wasnt clear to us). Billiards room had a small fee for a game. We tried to find the log fire but couldn't.

Attentive care by staff”
Great hotel with ambience and good service. Historic hotel with absolutely stunning decor. Arranged a private function which was executed well. Rooms are a bit too small for travelers from the US. But this may be because this is a landmark hotel built in the 1900. Only down side was an arrogant executive Chef who did not understand the basics of customer care. He is a shame to the entire establishment. As the rest of the staff did well I will still give a five star rating for the overall experience.

New experience for us”
A friend had suggested this place and it truly was worth the experience. It had an English style decor with high roofed ceiling which was not only beautiful but spacious and very comfortable. The rooms are extremely well maintained and the staff was very courteous. The food was excellent and we got to taste a wonderful variety of Srilankan, Indian and Continental food. Apart from their breakfast which was included in the package we tried their grill restaurant and high tea dining which I feel everyone should definitely try. Their pool and gym was totally a different and new experience.

Majestic Heritage Hotel with magnificent garden”
We booked 2 rooms for 2 nights, and had a great stay. One of our rooms was upgraded to a bigger room, since we had a small child with us. The buffet at the Barnes Hall restaurant was elaborate as was the experience of high tea at the tea lounge . The staff were very friendly & helpful. The hotel is a majestic 19th century structure, which is well maintained and full of grandeur & history. The national flags of countries with maximum guests at the hotel are hoisted on the flagpoles at the entrance of the hotel - this is a unique ritual. But, the best part of the hotel is the perfectly landscaped flower garden - the best that I have ever seen in any hotel!

Great place with full of history. The building was built in 19 century and used to be a holiday residence of the Ceylons governor. High Tea in the afternoon is a must. Perfect location for a walk in Victoria park . Highly recommended

Excellent service. We were on half board. The Breakfast was superb and dinner offered at three restaurants Thai, Indian & Western. We tried the Thai and Western. Food 1st grade and well presented. Planning to go again.

I would say The Grand Hotel, Nuwara Eliya is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in Sri Lanka. Perfectly located with a quiet surrounding still with in walking distance to the city center. Grand is a British empire era hotel and certainly lives up to it’s name. The look and the feel are undoubtably majestic. The staff was extremely friendly and I would like to mention Sasanka and Duminda from the front office for their excellent customer service, Mr. Bala from the Bar for the friendly game of pool and his vivid explanation on the history of the location ( the three pool tables are more than 100 years old and the building is a part of the original governor’s bungalow from 1800’s!) and Chef Augustus for the wonderful birthday cake (It was my son’s birthday a few days back, and the cake was complementary). The restaurant staff too were welcoming, warm and enthusiastic. The Indian restaurant is a ‘must-try’ !

The rooms were alright, but the hotel was amazing. Best location to stay in Nuwara Eliya. Must try the Indian and Thai restaurants. The tea room was also very nice.
