More about Grand Hotel

The Grand Hotel in Taipei, with its traditional palace-style architecture, vermillion pillars, stately archways and brilliantly tiled roof, is not only a magnificent landmark of Taiwan, but an emblem of ancient China. Catering to international conferences, diplomatic summits, and grandiose weddings, the resort rises 12 stories above the city and is two kilometers from Taipei Fine Art Museum and Shin Lin Night Market. Chiang Kai Shek International Airport is a 45-minute drive away. The only true Chinese, palace-style hotel in the world, the Grand Hotel offers recreational activities with a pool and tennis court and features international conference facilities with 10 fully equipped meeting rooms, a conference hall, and a grand ballroom on the hotel's top floor, hosting up to 800 guests. True to its tradition, this Chinese palace boasts the finest of dining options: the Golden Dragon Restaurant serves Cantonese specialties, the Grand Garden Western Dining Room offers both Eastern and Western cuisine, the Lobby Lounge features afternoon teas, light snacks and live Chinese music, and at the Yuan Yuan, diners can watch chefs concoct typical Chinese, northern province dim sum in an open kitchen. Whatever the reason for your stay, Grand Hotel will make it a good one.

Grand stay at Grand Hotel”

I have read some so so reviews of this hotel and they are way off the mark. The Grand is a fun convenient and central hotel in Taipei. The room was spacious and clean with all the modern amenities. It was our first time to Taipei and we were tourists for use it was a reasonably priced Grand experience.

Grand and opulent, can't get over how Grand it is”

The Grand Hotel inside and out, staff, restaurants

It is a Grand hotel that while it is getting older is a must see or must stay hotel when in Taiwan. Its huge and opulent and traditional. Its breath taking looking from outside and standing in lobby. Big clean rooms, well serviced. Room service available and was excellent quality. Restaurant with good quality breakfast buffet. Also has multiple other restaurants but we did not try. Staff very friendly and attentive Location is not the best but $110TWD taxi ride to Taipei main station and the Grand offers a free shuttle to the nearest MRT station. Short $110TWD taxi ride to Shilin night markets also Free wifi in rooms

Very historical”

I took the MRT from the Main train station and got off at Jiantan station. It was about a 15 minute walk to the Grand Hotel. This is not recommended if you have suitcases. The shortcut has you climbing many steps. The hotel also has a shuttle service to Yuanshan MRT station with shuttles leaving every 30 minutes. Like most hotels there are different size rooms. The Grand Hotel also has an annex called the Chin-Lin annex. If you want a room in the main building don’t choose the annex. The remodeled rooms are more of a simplified elegant versus being ornate. Some original elements still exists such as the wood floors and the night stand between the two beds. There is a cash mini bar and the usual toiletry amenities. Two breakfast locations are available. On the main floor is the Asian and Western buffet. On the 10 floor in the Prestige Lounge is what they call the Muslim breakfast. I found the Prestige Lounge to be not very crowed and with great views. If you don’t need your ham or bacon in the morning, the Prestige Lounge is a good choice. On the 10 floor is also a small fitness room. There is also an outdoor swimming pool.

Worth the price to stay. I'd do it again. ”

I was worried that the Grand Hotel had seen better days (having read reviews from the past year or so) and that we'd arrive to see worn carpet, dusty chandeliers, subpar food, etc. We didn't! It was a "wow" from stepping into the lobby to riding the ultra-smooth elevator to opening our hotel room door. Beautiful, clean, luxurious ... wonderful! We stayed in six 5-star hotels during our stay in Taiwan, and the Grand Hotel, by far, was my favorite.

Fantastic hotel but a bit archaic”

really into the chinese culture and architecture!

The Taipei Grand Hotel is like the Old World hotels of Europe. There is a lot of things to see but probably a little one can truly understand. The service is excellent; the food is exquisite and the location is so convenient. One thing, though: one needs to understand the Chinese culture in order to fully appreciate the wonder and beauty of this hotel!

Palacial rooms with balcony fit for a king”

The room we had has a view of the mountain, the river, the city and Taipei 101. It was in one of the best location in the hotel. The hotel facade and balcony looks palacial. The room we stayed was great. The bathroom was big and updated. It was almost like a royalty room if the bed was a King size and chairs and tables at the balcony. The hotel was grand by its scale and feels very oriental. I would highly recommend this place.

Very Grand!!”

Amazingly classic hotel with such history and grandeur. We only stayed one night and wished we could've stayed longer. The views from the balcony were worth the price alone. From the room to the lobby and the many amenities, you could easily spend an entire day here and not have to leave. The staff was also very friendly and attentive. Only downside is that it's a bit outside the heart of Taipei, but luckily there's a free shuttle that runs to three different subway stations throughout the day. Such an institution in Taipei.

Very memorable and the service is great!”

Very friendly, helpful and attentive staff, pleasant environment, and taxis are always readily available at the hotel.

It was a pleasant and very memorable stay, and get to have a nice view of Taipei city. The view in the evening is fantastic and we checked,in and out within a minute. Very fast and efficient staff at the reception and I don't event need to show them my hotel voucher, just let them know the name and show them passport, and they immediately passed me the keys to my room. When I requested in a change of room, they got a staff to pass us the keys within a couple of minutes and help us bring our luggage to the new room. It was one of the best hotel I stayed, although the building was old, but it was well maintained and the great service compensated for that! I would definitely stay in this hotel if I travel to Taipei again for leisure.

Clean, spacious room at a historical hotel”

Clean, spacious, remodeled room

First stay at the famous Grand Hotel, the Lobby is antiquated, but remains clean and stylish. Entering the room hall ways, the old carpet and dim lighting worried me with the thought that the room might be as dark and maybe even haunted with old hotel room smells. Much to my surprise, the room is actually more spacious and cleaner than I have imagined. Different from the picture I saw on Agoda, perhaps they have chosen to upgrade me to a bigger room. The biggest advantage and also its disadvantage is that the hotel is located on top of the hill, has great view, but relies on hotel shuttle bus or taxi to get there. Wouldn't never have the chance to live at the Grand Hotel once in my life had I not found this bargain price room on New Year's eve. Would consider to stay again if price is at a bargain.

LIve Up To Expectations”

The historical and architectural value, the view to the city, the location that sits in the middle of the Yuanshan park, convenient shuttle from Taipei metro and great concierge service.
Small gift shop, location is out of the way from the city center and mediocre restaurant.

The Grand Hotel in Taipei lived up to expectations. The concierge was superb and was very willing to make reservations for us at restaurants in the 80th-ish floor of the Taipei 101. They also provided us with a good selection for sight-seeing tours that picked us up straight from the hotel. The restaurant selection while having a wide range, lacked in the quality of food. The roooms were decent and provided a great view of the city.

Tired but impressive”

The Grand certainly lived up to its name although I would say it’s rather tired grandeur. We decided to stay 1 night instead of just visiting, so we could get up early do the walk behind the hotel (recommended) as it has great views of Taipei. I would not really call it 5 stars, but it is so unique that it’s worth at least a visit. Also we really enjoyed relaxing by the pool which has a great view of the hotel. The gym is also pretty good with extensive equipment. But the change rooms at the pool are very run down and need to be renovated. We ate a very late dinner in the lobby cafe - the beef noodles were actually pretty good. Not at all impressed by the room which was small and pokey. Service is pretty non existent and impersonal as the lobby is so hectic (except there is a lovely young enthusiastic bell boy who was always smiley). But we are glad with our decision to stay one night.

Beautiful interior, helpful staff

Staff were very helpful. The grand hotel had plenty to keep you occupied, we loved the pool. We thought the restaurant was a little over priced, but overall our stay was exciting and comfortable. Make sure to ask staff about the latest events around the area. We will be staying at the grand hotel again.

Totally different room type upon my arrival and the booking via Agoda.”

The check in counter said Agoda book me a Mountain Deluxe room. However, I actually pay higher to book the Horizon City View room via Agoda. Is there something wrong in Agoda Reservation ? It is totally disappointed and highly recommended you to double confirm with Agoda to mark everything in the confirmation sheet explicitly and confirm in advance before you go. The Grand Hotel Taipei is great and very clean. There is always performance in the lobby. An memorable experience !

Traditional hotel”

We enjoyed the traditional historical value of the hotel. The restaurants were mediocre, but the hotel had good service.
The shopping area was small and lacking of any real merchandise other than small gifts that one could also get at a night market.

I felt that the Grand Hotel in Taipei lived up to my expectations of a four star hotel. I enjoyed the architectural and historical value that came with staying there. The restaurants were mediocre at best, but they did have a large selection from breakfast buffet, Northern-style dumplings, traditional Cantonese-style, and a cafe near the lobby. The cost for internet use in the business center was too expensive for what little time they give you. For such a older hotel in Taipei it was in good condition.

Extraordinary architecture of the Hotel is worth capturing in your camera. Bathrooms are thoroughly clean with everything at right place with right condition. Also the room comes with Huge balcony which was gift to me. As I am smoker so was not able to get any Hotel in Taipei where smoking is allowed. Then found out that smoking is prohibited by law in Hotel rooms. So this balcony came as blessing in disguise.

Grand by name, grand by nature”

Extraordinary hotel, with much history to enjoy. We stayed in the cheapest option, an inner windowless room, but although was small, it was quite acceptable - just needed to set our alarms to wake up. The breakfast is OK, but its much better value to walk down the hill to the Louisa coffee shop near the station. Shilin Market is close by, and there are lots of eating options. You can walk thorough the park surrounding the hotel, and there is a swimming pool. Secret tip: on the second floor, there is a huge balcony that overlooks all of Taipei. No-one ever goes there, but any guest of the hotel can use it.

Great Big Hotel, Right Next to Night Markets, Felt Like An Emperor
Had to upgrade - the small rooms are like shoeboxes

Great hotel. I was staying with friends at this hotel and we loved it! The rooms were so luxurious. The balconies from the suites looked out onto the whole of Taipei. Even with all of the smog, the city still looked beautiful. Only cons were: (1) small rooms were like shoeboxes (so if you stay here you should definitely stay in a suite or don't stay at all); and (2) the bathroom looked like it hadn't been redecorated since the 1970s.
