Nice hotel with very confusing location”
What ever you do , do not look up the hotel on google maps. I googled the hotel and I was given the location for "Grand Japaning Hotel Omiya". Instead use the link given in the email to find the hotel. The actual hotel is a couple blocks away walking. After 30 minutes of trying to contact someone, we figured it on our own. As we walked by the hotel at night we found other people who were in the same situation. Do not use Google maps!!!! For the hotel it was a good stay. The rooms were clean and comfortable. There is no common area, so if you need to make a call you need to do it in your small room or in the hallway. Overall, very confusing finding the location, but when we found it. The hotel was nice.

one of the worst hotel experience ever”
complicated check in process! We were stuck in the lobby for hours because no one knows how to unlock our room door. Not only hotel staffs did not try to settle us down for another room, they were going to let us stand in the lobby for the whole night. After figuring out another room at another location, the hotel made us walk 10 minutes carrying our 3 big luggages at 3-4AM in the streets. On top of all the hours we spent talking to the hotel staff with limited English proficiency, they were going to make us travel back to the original hotel with all the luggages the morning after. We complained to the hotel and all they responded was sorry for the inconveniences and waived the what so called upgrade fee which we never asked for than our original room that they never were able to open. We then asked help from Agoda and they were very prompted and helpful with what we experienced.

Good location, but lacking services”
The location is ready great - close to the train station made it easy to get around. There was no one at the hotel when I checked in and had to do it all with a tablet - it was strange and impersonal. I stayed for three nights and my room was never cleaned and I did not receive fresh towels. They also ask for additional "tax" when you check out. No other hotel we stayed at asked for this new city tax.

Pros: Location: very near to omiya station, daiso is just at the corner and across the steet is the 24hour gyumeshi (yoshinoya like) restaurant. There are several restaurants and convenience store. Randen Line bus going to arashiyama is a big help. nishiki market and Nijo-jo castle is near good if you walk as you will explore the area but better to take train to save time and energy. Hotel: smooth check in. Basic amenities are complete, the room assigned to us is with a great view. No need for key card to open the door just make sure to memorize the codes given to you. Handy wifi phone is a plus. The staff is at the front desk every morning. CONS: the room is small, no housekeeping if less than 3 days stay made it much expensive than other hotel. Hard to fix between hot and cold shower, erratic wifi signal, no bathrobe, no english channel in tv, no english instruction in air con control use. Toilet seat is not warming, room coldness is coming inside the toilet. Did not avail their free shuttle tour need to schedule and go to kyoto branch. Upon checking out they ask 200 yen each person per night as accomodation tax. No advisory in website or email. Good thing we had extra money. Over all: omiya area is a good place. but will not choose this hotel again. Will also not recommend. For me daily housekeeping is a must in a hotel. Tv with english channel and strong wifi connection anytime of the day.

This hotel is new, so every equipment look new. Hotel do provide laundry at ground floor for hotel guests. Do take note for that if you need it. Since this hotel is self check in, hotel will communicate with you through email at your check-in date. So do make sure you can connect with your email account before you want to check -in. Otherwise, at the front door entrance, use the phone provided by hotel to contact with Hotel's customer service and ask them for your code for enter hotel front door and for check in. This hotel don't provide daily clean up, do take note for that.

My best experience. Self- checkin is very interesting and convinient. Check in time is 4pm but 11am the hotel sent me an email said that my room is ready. Room is very nice, perfectly clean and have all we need. Free using washing machine. Near bus station.

Very nice location, 3min away from a station. There are plenty to do locally. It was quite a self oriented hotel. No staff at the reception, need to self-check in. They dont provide daipy cleaning service. Overall for how much I paid, it was an excellent value.

Nice hotel”
The hotel is very new and clean. Everything is convenient. We checked in using tablet and got passcode to access our room (no need to keep the room key/ card). There are laundry and drying machines in the hotel which we could use for free. Location wise, not too close to the tourist spot, but still within walking distance to the shopping districts and pontocho alley. The only downside is we could only store our luggage at their main office nearby Kyoto station before check in or after check out.

Below average- my experience is not good”
To start with, this is kind of hotel but not exactly. You don’t have any service, the rooms are not cleaned up, the towels are not replaced and you can’t keep your luggage before check in which is not before 16. You don’t have anyone to talk with, while the idea of an automated hotel is great, the result is confusing and frustrating. You loose energy time and nerves on the check in process . When reservation is made, you should get a pin code which you use to enter the hotel, in my case, I booked via Agoda.com and didn’t receive any of this information and I was stuck outside. Apparently , They have several hotels that looks the same and have almost similar names so it’s easy to arrive to a different hotel rather than the one you reserved (google maps don’t show all of them, this is how it’s confusing) Bottom line - I do not recommend and wouldn’t come back. I had the worst experience here.

Great price for a great location”
The hotel is at a great location. It is location within 3 minutes walk from the Shijo-Omiya station. The NIshiki Market is 1-2 stops away. There is a tram station at the intersection that is direct line to Arashiyama Bamboo Forest. Kyoto station is a short bus ride away. There are multiple restaurants and food marts around. As mentioned by other reviews, the whole check-in process is digital. But if you follow the instructions in the email carefully, the whole process is a breeze. If you encounter an issue, there is a phone that connects directly to a staff to guide you along. The room is slightly small with sufficient space to only open one large luggage on the floor. But the bed was comfortable and all the necessary amenities provided in the room.

Self checkin was good the hotel emailed with details regarding that. open wifi source avble at entrance to recover codes etc. room was nice and clean and comfortable - the bed was amazing. The phone staff at the main office spoke english well and were able to assist me with my questions. location is awesome just a short walk from Omiya station. Baggage holding is at the main office which is a little difficult to find as you have to walk through a restaurant to get to the elevator to take you up. just keep that in mind if you do need to visit the main office

Cozy hotel at convenient location”
Traveled to Kyoto solo between august 7th to 14th. Decided to stay at Grand Japaning hotel. It was a very pleasant stay at a convenient location with local traffic to the most popular attractions right around the corner (both subway, train and bus lines), also easy access to central station. Nice staff and very clean and neat room. Big plus for the free smart phone one get to borrow from the hotel with unlimited access to internet, apps and other useful applications for your Kyoto trip. The only downside was that the free international calls only were to a few countries, but since I did not need that function for me it didn't matter that much.

It’s a little away from Nishiki Market and Gion, but awesome that it’s next to Omiya station for convenience. Small standing room only restaurant across from station (next to McDonald) called common man is a must try for cheap yet delicious food

Worth the price ”
Advantage : cheap , clean , laundry service provide for free and smartphone tourist guide for free (but I didn’t use because I can use my own handphone to search as well) , shuttle bus service is free (but this is not provide from the hotel to the tourist spot because you have to go Kyoto station they will only pick you up there so I rather go tourist spot by own transport if go to Kyoto station is more expensive than if I direct go to the tourist spot some more is more further . Free luggage storage (same thing as above , if you want to keep your luggage you may have to go Kyoto station also they won’t allow you to put your luggage in the hotel which you stay) Disadvantage : from check in until check up there is “self service “ ,there is no stuff at all if you seek for help it maybe take time for you because in the front desk only a phone there for you ( working hour is 8am to 10pm). If you stay more than one night there is no room cleaning service so you have to reuse everything for your stays (I got request to refill the shampoo shower gel because when I check in the shampoo everything is only left half and toothbrush also provide two but no one came)

Place was nice and clean. It was pretty spacious for a Japanese hotel. Location was in a quiet neighbours but wasn’t as convenient - 2 stops away by train to all the food and main attractions. Overall : a very pleasant stay

A highly automated hotel (first seen by me)”
The hotel was clean, designed to accommodate everything needed for a traveler , although the room was small it doesn't felt crowded. The best thing was that the washing machine and dryer was free, but we got to buy our own detergent. The check in and check out process was convenient, and the place is full of food to eat .A walk to nishiki market is also not too far
