Quick visit to Nelson”
We recently visited Nelson, and decided to stay at the Grand Mercure. We really enjoyed our visit. Loved our dinner at the restaurant. Tommy was a wonder and super helpful. Couldn't recommend more. Priced great. Brilliant food.
Hi there Damien Firstly, apologies for the delayed response - I have only just figured out how to get into Agoda to write management responses to guest reviews! I was delighted to read that you enjoyed stay with us in June. You're quite right, Tommy is amazing - in fact, he is one of the finalists for the Waiter/Maitre'd of the Year award in the 2017 Nelson Hospitality Awards, the winners will be announced 21 August and we so hope he wins! Thanks for the compliment on the food at The Monaco Kitchen. Warm regards Nick On behalf of the entire team at the Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco
Quick stay in Nelson”
Stayed 1 night at the Grand Mecure before travelling to the Marlborough region. Hotel was clean, cozy and close to Nelson airport. Ate at the restaurant located at the hotel and that was very nice (had an excellent waitor who looked like was working solo!) Would recommend this hotel to others unless you wanted to stay in the centre of Nelson
very spacious and clean rooms. very friendly staff. restaurant facilities provided within the hotel. 2-3 minute drive from the heart of Nelson. views from the hotel are terrific.
staying in a fairy tale”
when we booked hotel, we wanted it to be close to the airport. by the time we arrived at the hotel, it took us by real surprise as the architecture of the hotel has brought us into a fairy tale like setting, as if you were in the middle of the monaco, or a small town in europe. the garden in front of the hotel was amazing.. staff are super friendly, with free parking and all, we really enjoyed this little surprise.
Fantastic and beautiful”
absolutely fabulous and while not necessarily in the heart of nelson, an absolutely fabulous place, great dining and undoubtedly one of the best places we stayed in on our nz trip
Nice stay in spacious older style accommodation”
Our 8yo loved the fact that he had his own room with 2 beds and ensuite. The Restaurant was very good quality. Location is very close to the airport though 15 minutes or so from Nelson itself. We enjoyed the duck pond behind reception and had a very pleasant stay. One tip: I am 195cm and the door height of the old style units was about the same, actually maybe 1-2cm less so maybe choose an alternative if you are extremely tall.
Thanks John for your review/feedback - it's great to know you and your family enjoyed your recent stay with us. Terrific to know that we made your son's stay with his own room. Our gardener has got the duck pond looking great at the moment, he's just got the fountains working again after many months (?) of being out of action, we've also got in a number of water lilies which are now beginning to flower. Gee I hope you found the bed long enough to get a good nights sleep. Enjoy the rest of your NZ holiday and all the best for a great 2018 - I hope it's a great year for you. Warm regards Nick, on behalf of the entire team at the Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco
beautiful resort hotel”
Design of the hotel was lovely as a whole village in Monaco. Near the Tasman sea. Beautiful interior design of bathroom, bed room and living room , within one unit. Restaurant provided good dinner and buffet breakfast. Friendly pukeko bird and ducks outside restaurant window were adorable.
Nice hotel with british atmosphere”
Located a bit outside Nelson, close to a bay, extremely exposed to the tide. Interesting to watch! The place is like a small british society, with shops and service in a very caracteristic buildning complex. We had a nice stay!
Modern, quality hotel”
Modern complex in pleasant setting. High quality hotel. Although next to the water, there is no beach and the end of Nelson airport's runway is close by
Amazing customer service”
The 2 bdrm cottage was perfect for 2 couples traveling together. But my review is more about the hotel's customer service. We were scheduled to arrive the same day as Cyclone Gita and they went out of their way to make our trip smooth. Not only did they email the day before and advise us of the expected storm, but they also briefed us upon arrival of their storm emergency plans and gave us a little care package in our room in the event of a power outage. Fortunately, nothing happened, but I was really impressed with their attention to detail - thanks!
Dear Susan Thanks so much for your review/feedback, guest/staff safety and comfort is our first priority hence our planning and forethought. Hopefully, former tropical Cyclone Gita didn't spoil your impression of Nelson! You'll have to come back at some point in the future and see the extraordinary Nelson/Tasman in the glorious sunshine we're famous for! Warm regards Nick, on behalf of the entire team at the Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco
Great hotel, but location was poor”
The hotel and facilities were great, however it was a little too far from the action of Nelson. The rooms were well appointed, and the grounds were set up as a quaint English Village. Pity the hotel was too far from the main part of Nelson, and the water frontage, was poor. Great little pub across the road though---The Honest Lawyer.
Lovely hotel with great service”
The hotel room was extremely comfortable with a great view of the estaury and pond at the front of the hotel. The staff were warm and friendly. Our only critism was that there was not a lot of storage space in the luxurious bathroom for our toiletries and cosmetics. We will definitely stay here again. We would have loved to have had time to use the on-site spa facilities.
You feel 'at home' ”
Hotel is designed for family, you feel at home. you don't feel trapped because the whole place is spacious. great for kids if they want to play outside unlike if you are staying in a hotel on the 10th floor or above theres just no place for kids to play outside. Service was of high standard - friendly, accommodating and prompt. I would recommend this hotel to everyone if you do not mind staying away from the main bustling city as the hotel is about 15 mins away.
Fantastic staff, great atmosphere”
although the hotel rooms are compact they met our needs, the surrounds created a village atmosphere. the food in the restaurant was 'chefs hat standard' and great value for money. the compact wine list introduced a number of local distinctive wines. all of the staff we met made us feel more than welcome and ensured that our short stay was memorable. have already recommended to others.
Great hotel with friendly staff”
My son and I enjoyed our stay. The hotel receptionist Michelle was very informative and helpful. The scenery was beautiful from our room.
Beautifull apartment Hotel”
Hotel mentions it is a complex of one bed room apartments consisting of one story buildings with only staircase access to the top apartment. So when booking one should highlight ones mobility. The Apartments are well laid out and have all the comfort one would expect. The room we stayed in had a built in washing/drying machine. Restaurant was good and had a good wine selection.
Only for a night”
We were only there for one night. Apparently the walls are paper thin as our neighbour kept complaining about our noise which was only general conversation level. Also there was no in room fridge /tea and coffee facilities - only a communal kitchenette in the hall and you had to label what you put in there. That aside it's a very cool hotel and it felt like we were staying in a castle with a cool courtyard complete with a pond and ducks.
Nice little place”
This is one of the best place i have ever stay. the location of the hotel is alright, but comes with a very very nice and beautiful cottage. decorated with old style furniture, and fire place which is very lovely in a cold day.
Good friendly service.”
There was a fee thing that made it a bit inconvenient, the spa outside only had half the jets working and when I tried using the heather in the room the plug was broken. was a nice stay overall and the staff were really nice.
Excellent stay, great and friendly staff”
Excellent stay, unique hotel design. Friendly staff is always welcome. Having fitness facility is a plus. Location is quite close to airport.
