Centrally located in the bustling metropolis, this property captures an expedient location, offering easy access to the World Trade Center, Government Offices, banks, airline offices, and top tourist destinations. Take an easy stroll away and you’ll find York Street, the thriving business district, and Fort and Pettah Bazaar. Although a short drive away, your trip will not be complete without stopping at the Viharamaha Devi Park and the Cinnamon Gardens. Apart from being well located, this 1936 building is a landmark since it emanates historical atmosphere and reflects Srilanka’s architectural style from the 1930s. Grand Oriental Hotel is a great choice for both business and leisure tourists looking for a reasonably priced option located in the heart of the city.

A Colonial Gem ”
First time I have stayed at GOH and it is a time capsule and grand dame of the older hotels that fortunately are still left standing and in service. As would be expected for the time it was established (1837 I believe) it is adjacent to what would have been the port, wharves and Customs House. Thus is right in the heart of old Colombo. It is a little dog eared around the edges, but still retains it's majesty from it's former glory days. Staff is helpful and considering it is a government run hotel they are surprisingly helpful and enthusiastic. While I'm not a buffet person this one actually does standout as given a very tasty breakfast, lunch and dinner and the view of the port cannot be beat. The value for the money is superb as is the location. The rooms are of course dated, but quite spacious. It can get a bit noisy, but small price to pay for staying in such a gem. I personally love these older establishments as they have so much color. All in all a wonderful stay!
A majestic jewel in Colombo ”
We stayed here for 2 nights. It has an olde world charm that is wonderful & in its day it would have been ‘the place to stay’. This just added to its appeal. It’s a beautiful building with courteous staff.
Super Service ”
Of course an older hotel but if you like the good old days it is a must for you to stay there. Traditional Sri Lankan lunch for an unbeatable price. Go in the night to the restaurant on 4th floor
Good classic style hotel”
It's nice classic hotel clean & quietly good location also nice buffet breakfast
Lesiure travel in class”
The hotel is old world and that is its charm. Wonderful hospitality, the staff was courteous, prompt and extremely helpful. We had specified a wheelchair accessible room within the most basic room on offer. But since the toilet was too small we were upgraded to a deluxe room at no extra cost. the room had the most gorgeous view of the port. Loved the breakfast buffet. the location was excellent and we just walked over to Dutch hospital, smooth going on the wheelchair too. The night club was a little loud but not enough to leave us sleepless. Overall a very happy experience at the hotel.
Great history, great place to stay and value for money”
This place is a legendary hotel and being part of it is a great experience for me... great location in central colombo overlooking the harbour. Buffet food is well served, linens smells good and crisp. I had the honor to visit the room of our national hero Dr Jose Rizal, it was like a time travel experience for me and im glad that the hotel had restored Its past history. Kudos to all and keep it up
It’s a listed building by the Port”
It’s a good place to spend the night if you arrive at Colombo airport late afternoon and are heading south by train or road. It’s a short tuk tuk ride to fort station . We took a taxi to Wadduwa for 6000 rupees from here. The hotel is old colonial , worn at the qedges but a great experience for a very reasonable price. Excellent breakfast and a good evening meal. It has a restaurant on the 4 th floor overlooking the port. A very memorable great view. It’s not 5 star, but a great value for money hotel in the colonial old town area. It was clean comfortable , 4 poster bed, international TV and a kettle and tea / coffee. would we stay again? . Yes for sure. It is great value and memorable. We enjoyed the stay.
Very good service good location! Of course a very old hotel but with the charme of the time ”
Super Sri Lankan lunch and breakfast
Nice Hotel with Old School Charm”
well located, large room, friendly helpful staff, excellent restaurants on site, and best smelling elevator i've ever been in! the only downside was that the water pressure was lacking in the shower.
Back in time”
A great place in good location. Very good value for money. A little dated in part but balanced by a great history. Great breakfast in 4th floor restaurant. Our room was enormous. Staff friendly, helpful and efficient.
Step back in time at the GOH”
Hotels such as the GOH are either being completely overhauled (go to the Galle Face Hotel to see this in action) so it is a real step back in time to stay in Colombo at the GOH- enjoy the Harber view from the fourth floor dining room- pro tip- look for the tiny balcony to the right-- enjoy at short eat at the lobby snack bar and envision the faded glory of the Raj in the old commercial district- good fun!
Colombo Fawlty Towers”
This was definitely a grand dame of a hotel and perhaps could be again, but now she is a bit of a tattered frump with a glorious past and many stories to tell. WE LOVED HER. Staff were great, our room was huge with spectacular views across the working port and all its modern equipment. Location was in the heart of part of the old town and within walking of yhe Dutch Hospital where we went for a lovely dinner. Breakfast was very good with lots of options.
Hallways staff was going around been loud”
I stayed at 333. Reception staff room was good . Value for money. Staff is quite loud discussing there business in hallways when guest expect peace and quiet. Oppositemy room there was managers office. I heard his conversations with wife and between staff. The rest was v good.
Dear Valuable Guest Thank you very much for your stay with Grand Oriental Hotel, we appreciate your valuable feed back and review about us, will try our level best to keep developing our service level in future Thanks
very nice hotel”
we had a pleasant stay, the staff are very friendly and warm, the room with antique fixtures are very spacious and clean. We enjoyed the buffet lunch at Lanka restaurant and the very fabulous italian buffet dinner at the harbour restaurant with a very beautiful view of the colombo port. shopping is nearby and sites, too.
Stepping into the past, yet with modern comforts”
we arrived at 3.00 a.m. from the airport - check-in was quick and efficient. the room was very comfortable. the view over the harbour during breakfast and dinner was excellent, as was the quality of the dining. location is great - easy access to the rest of the city, either walking or bu tuk-tuk. the aged splendour of the building is a joy to be part of. a fine base to stay at.
old but good”
This hotel is good value for money. The staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel is very old and hasn't had much upkeep over the years but the rooms were comfortable enough. You can walk to the Hilton hotel nearby and you are right in the city centre.
Nice location but more facilities required”
I liked location of the hotel in York Street. Construction is bit old but facilities inside every room varies. Some deluxe rooms have sofa, some don't. Some standard rooms have all toiletries some don't. Staff needs to be quick and prompt. One staff member even mocked my surname which is quite offensive.
Cheated by the hotel's travel team for airport drop”
The hotel is very old, but still reasonable for the stay, value for money, cleanliness ok. Rook aircon was dipping water, after complaint, someone came and promised to fix, but till my last day issue was not resolved. The most horrible part of my stay was arranging an airport drop-off. When I asked the hotel, the hotel introduced their travel desk and I fixed a drop off at USD30 which supposed to include all expenses include the highway toll. They told price is 4000+ LKR but when I wanted to pay by credit card, they said it will be LKR6000+. Then I fixed my trip at USD30 inclusive of Highway toll. On the departure date, no car was there and when asked the hotel the car arrived at 8:45 am. Then when the car was not taking the highway, the driver told me that he is from 'PickMe' (equiv to UBER/Grab) and he is paid only LKR2500, the toll is not included. I felt that I've been seriously cheated by them which hotel management is also aware of. So, better don't use their pickup/dropoff.
I was upgraded to a suite and it was fantastic. Beautiful spacious room, lovely linens on the bed and an awesome 4 poster bed. Breakfast and lunch were perfect. Wonderful staff. I would definitely make this my go to hotel on my next visit.
May have been opulent 80 years ago but now a faded, jaded relic of a long-passed era. No pool, ancient Tv's, borderline grotty bathroom and not as well situated as it may appear on the map. Four poster bed was grand but little else about this place was. none of the standard toiletries available bar soap, no view from most rooms and just an overall sense of trying to wring every last rupee from the shriveled corpse of a once proud institution. one night absolute max and only because on the right side of Colombo for the airport.
