Nice and Friendly Hotel”
Grand Sunset Hotel may looked quite ordinary on the outside but during my seven nights stay there I have to say that it was anything but ordinary! We got a really nice 2 bedroom Suite with a living room, which was pretty spacious and modern, overlooking Karon beach. Came with flat screen TV in each room and a good size balcony too. The pool on the rooftop had a great view of Karon beach and was beautifully litted up at night. My children had a blast in the pool. From the moment we arrived at 11pm the first night till we checked out we always received friendly greetings and smiles from the front desk staff. Inquiries were also attended to very quickly and the team was very accommodating. I have to also comment the fantastic job the housekeeping team has done. They must have great pride in their job because my room was always spotlessly clean everytime I come back. The toilet in the room came with a frosted glass door and there's no lock. Could be something to think about if travelling with friends but otherwise everything was good. Overall if I do have a chance to visit Phuket again, I would definitely come back to the Grand Sunset Hotel without a doubt! Great job guys!!
Fantastic hotel with excellent service”
We stayed at the Grand Sunset, Karon from 27 Feb 2012 to 01 Mar 2012 for our honeymoon and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. It was conveniently located near the beach (5mins walk), eateries and massage parlors (3mins walk), shopping at a bazaar (8mins walk). While Karon may be further away from the center of activities at Patong, we also avoided the crowd and the noise. Anyway, it is perfectly accessible via motorbike/car - just 15mins ride away. The hotel itself is neat and modern looking. The rooftop pool was really nice - great view, enough loungers and it's an infinity pool! The room we stayed in was really spacious and was well stocked with all the necessities. The only gripe we have would be the water pressure and temperature, which can be rather erratic at times. We were also pleased with the service provided by the Grand Sunset staff. They were attentive and very helpful throughout our entire stay, always with a smile. What impressed us the most was they went the extra mile and celebrated my birthday. I supposed they must have gotten my information while checking in, but we were not expecting a surprise birthday celebration. They came up to the room on my birthday with a home made cake and that definitely made my day. We would definitely recommend Grand Sunset for any future travelers to Phuket.
Great location, very helpful staffs, read on...”
Our first time in Phuket. Stayed in Grand Sunset Hotel for 5 nights. Greeted warmly, served with a welcome drink upon arrival. Reserved for a deluxe room, surprisingly upgraded to Grand Deluxe room. No extra charge. One of the staff, Prada, took our luggage & sent us to our room. Room is nice, comes with balcony & separate living room. Not very big but its spacious for two person. All staffs very helpful & friendly & TRUSTING. To ensure communications & instructions given to e activities tour agency are very clear,Prada, made all e calls for us. The permanent night staff, Jauhari, able to converse well in Malay as well. I reckon it will be great for people who are more comfortable to converse in malay. Jauhari been very helpful. One of e night we were unable to sleep, we called & asked if e tv in our room installed with dvd player. He said its not but we can get the dvd player from e reception ast we could choose which movie we want to watch from the rack. They have quite a number of movies there. When feel like staying indoor, we hanged around at the hotel lobby as they have a nice seating area. Had a great time at e pool located on e rooftop too. Nice view. We went for massage or dine in at e restaurants, all located just few doors away from the hotel. There's Subway restaurant, tailors, tour agencies and mini-marts nearby as well. To rent a bike?? Just located on the next street. 3mins walk. Beach is about 5-7 minutes walk. The laundry service from the shop nearby is 45baht per kg.(Opp e bike rental shop). We feels that this hotel charter to our every needs. Rooftop pool, nice seaview, near Karon beach Near to massage place mani-pedicure/waxing/hair braiding etc) Near to eateries/mini-marts/Movenpicks/Other restaurants/Subway, nice clean room, DVD player, free wifi, staffs very service oriented. ***Special thanks to Prada and Jauhari. "Prada, thank you for making the birthday surprise for my wife worked!"
Long Weekend Getaway to Paradise”
Recently I was able to take a long weekend trip to Phuket to get some much needed rest and relaxation. This was not the first time I have stayed at the Grand Sunset Hotel and I hope it will not be my last. The staff is very attentive and cooperative no matter what the request. Always a smile and pleasant words. Like coming to visit old friends. The rooms are pretty well appointed and always clean and bright. I had a Superior Deluxe King room with a nice balcony overlooking the "jungle" facing the south. 4 comfortable chairs and a nice size table and I had a great place to relax and drink my morning coffee while watching the birds and listening to the wind through the leaves and bushes below. The renovation to the rooftop pool area and bar looks to be very well done and by the number of people I saw up there seems like well received as well. Close to the beach and plenty of good restaurants near by, easy walk to the Karon Plaza for picking up those keepsake gifts for friends and family, you almost could not ask for more. The breakfast cafe provides a reasonable selection of regular breakfast fare with fresh fruit and juices, coffee and tea selection, and pastries to round out the menu. My only downside this trip was the bed was extremely hard. In the past I got used the the hard mattress but this time, for some reason, not so much. Probably had I said something at the front desk, they probably would have gotten a mattress pad or cushion to make us bit softer but I did not so I will not fault them for that. That being said, if the opportunity arises fir me to travel back to Phuket again in the future, I will definitely look to Garnd Sunset Hotel for my first choice in accommodations.
Grand Sunset Hotel is a great place to stay. It was the perfect location for my wife and I to have a break from the children. It was quiet in the hotel area, but close enough to a burgeoning night life if we wanted more activity. The stay couldn't have been better. Location: The hotel is located far enough from the airport to never see/hear an airplane. It is central to many great restaurants and street vendors. The proximity to the beach is almost unbeatable, especially at the price of their rooms in high season. This was really the deciding factor for us booking with Grand Sunset and we were extremely pleased with our choice. Staff: Everyone was friendly, well-informed, patient, and extremely helpful when we needed them, inconspicuous when we didn't need them. The cleaning staff did a great job every day, and the front desk helped us by booking us a taxi to the airport at a better rate than the taxi stand across the street. Breakfast: This was an unexpected surprise for us. Expecting a simple muffin and coffee each morning, we were delighted to receive an in-room European or Asian breakfast that was both flavorful and plentiful, arriving at our specified time hot on the plate. It was enough food that we opted to skip lunch and have an early dinner each day. Rooms/Interior: Clean, well-kept facilities overall. Room was cozy, as was balcony. Being located on the back side of the hotel which overlooks a large patch of undeveloped land, privacy abounded. Bottom Line: Great place at a great price in a great location. Highly recommend. Save the money you'd spend on a pricier hotel in the area to do things around the island like speedboat tours, shopping in the markets, and engorging yourself with abundant food and drink.
Simple. Efficient. Warm. Clean.”
We have been frequent visitors of Phuket and we always choose to stay at what we consider to be our second home thereabouts. And these are are the four adjectives that best describe Grand Sunset Hotel: 1. Simple - The place is a no-frills, sans pretention boutique hotel. It has four floors of guest rooms. The restaurant which serves delicious Thai and Western dishes is located on the ground level within a stone's throw away from the relaxed set-up of the reception desk, a comfortable seating area, and a corner dedicated to several laptops for guests' Internet needs. The piece de resistance which is the swimming pool is aptly positioned on the rooftop with sweeping, picturesque views of the inviting ocean and the surrounding mountains. 2 & 3. Efficient and warm - These are words most fitting to describe the hotel's staff. Its friendly manager from Denmark, who's most welcoming of our concerns and questions. The restaurant, housekeeping, the young bartender of the swimming pool plus the maintenance staff are always courteous and eager to render service with wide, genuine smiles on their faces. Most importantly, the reception team is the hotel's crowning glory! We are most impressed by always exerts extra effort to meet her guests' requests! We borrowed a DVD player one time which was cordless and she went out of her own way to purchase the connector cord for us! 4. Clean - Everything about the hotel, in and out, top to bottom, food, swimming pool, the rooms are spotlessly clean! No wonder Grand Sunset's in the list of Karon's top hotels! Kudos and see you again soon!
Lovely hotel and service with a smile”
Grand Sunset is one of the best hotel to stay at Karon beach in terms of value and location. Hotel staff were friendly and welcoming. Room was clean and new. Shower presure was strong and it also provide a mini bar. Items in the mini bar not so expensive. Eg Barcadi Breezer drink 100baht. Trip from airport by metered taxi cost 500baht but return trip to airport cost 800baht. Duing our stay, we visited Phuket zoo which was very entertaining. Enjoyed a day out at Karon beach which was likea paradise. Did some shopping at Jungceylon which was having a sale.
Great time spent in Great hotel”
I want to begin my story from the moment we chose the location in Phuket. First there was a plan to stay in Patong beach, then Hai Narn or the islands of Racha, but after surfing reviews on the Internet about the workload of Patong Beach and the distant location from the beach, we decided to choose the "golden middle" - Karon beach. Category of "stars" - fell, then rose when choosing a hotel, which were subject to the category "price/quality": a route considered either castles with huge pools with access to the sea, or a comfortable inns with the size 4 x 4... a little about the exterior of the hotel: what does "golden mean" mean for me when choosing a hotel abroad? it means - the nearest road to the beach, non-occupied area, the availability of entertainment, mini motorbike parking, cheap prices. This hotel was in precisely in the point. And more about the interior of the hotel: the room is light in all its understanding that freshens the room, no odors from the air conditioning and a bathroom, a dense curtain, modern appliances, small balcony overlooking the courtyard view(by spending evenings)/Garden view (a beautiful views of the rainforest through which you can see the Big buddha), corridors and hall are placed to rest, a small pool on the roof acquainted us with an unforgettable sunrises and sunsets accompanied with a wonderful, beautiful lighting, it is also perfect for afterparty. Staff: Each entrance and exit of the hotel accompanied us with familiar to us the word of Savadi-kha", held daily room cleaning. Population: ethnic, there was not a such feeling, that you were in the hotel of the city of yours. In general I can say that the hotel was chosen FOR us, the feeling was that this is our private hotel. Great thanks, great GSunset!
Lovely hotel and service with endless smiles....”
My experience with a hotel like the Grand Sunset Hotel in Phuket Thailand could only be characterized as amazing dream come true. In any case, the Grand Sunset Hotel has definitely embraced the boutique spirit. They've taken an offbeat design concept and embraced it wholeheartedly. It is near to the beach, just a 2 min walk and the hospitality is what makes this hotel extra ordinary. I would recommend it as a best one and low cost...all essential facilities available in the rooms Unfortunately, i have to leave now but i will definitely come back again Hotel staff you are the best.....i love u all
Great location, helpful and friendly staff”
Hotel is located on Karon Beach, about an hour's drive from Phuket International Airport. The beach is only a stone's throw away and it takes less than 5 mins to walk there. Karon Beach is so much nicer than Patong Beach: Less crowded, less watersports operators, cleaner beach. We had no problems checking in and we were brought to our room by one of the staffs who briefed us on how to use the various amenities in the room. The room was clean and had the basic amenities. There were no cable channels on the tv though, only local channels. The toilet is a little small and could barely fit 2 people. The roof top swimming pool is a nice place to chill out and get some sun. There are enough deck chairs as there were not many people around. The pool was fairly big but the water was quite dirty at one end as it was stagnant. There is a bar where you can get drinks and finger food. There are bars and restaurants all around the hotel. There is also a bazaar selling t-shirts, berms, bags, shoes and many other goods. In front of the bazaar, there are 2 stalls that only open in the evening selling bbq stuff. One can order some bbq food, a bottle of beer, sit at the chairs provided behind the stall and enjoy the sunset over the sea. For less pricey food, walk over to Patak Road (15 mins) or take a tuk tuk (5 mins?) there. There are a few restaurants selling seafood, thai food and also international dishes. A must-try is the grilled red snapper which costs 200-300 baht.
Wonderful hotel, Great Value, Fantastic Service”
We checked in on my birthday last April and get upgraded (2 days later) from Deluxe King to Grand Deluxe King. The Grand Deluxe King room which is located on higher floor comes with occasional water pressure problem. However, both type of rooms provided clean and comfortable stay. The rooftop swimming pool may be a little small but come with fantastic view of the beach and hillsides. Good for just a dip and relaxation. Overall, I had a wonderful stay and will definitely return back to Grand Sunset Hotel on my next trip to Phuket and well done to all the fantastic hotel staff.
We stayed 4 nights but we mostly spend time at hotel at night. Because we arranged tours in day time each day of our stay. Most of the tours start around 9 AM so the pickup vehicle will come around 7 30 so the hotel arranged us early breakfast on request. Rooms were not too large but comfortable and full of facilities. We had few issues during our stay but the staff able to provide good service and make them correct. Phuket is nice place to visit but when you are arranging trips don’t be hurry you will find those tours very cheap. Best thing is to check from few places and then buy it and bargaining is more important. If you take shared transport from airport they will take you to tour arranging place, best you don’t buy any because you don’t have any other places to compare price. If you come to Karon you will find lots of places like that and cheap. For shopping karon is not good place because it’s very expensive. The best place is to shopping is ‘BIG C’ supermarket in phuket town which most locals doing their shopping. Clothes, shoes fruits and foods are cheaper than any other places in ‘BIG C’.
Lovely hotel.Awsome friendly staff.”
We really enjoyed our stay at the grand sunset. The staff were all really friendly and very helpfull. We stayed 4 nights and would have stayed on for longer if rooms had been available. Room is small but comfortable and had everything we needed. Position was great, it is down the lane right opposite the beautiful Karon Beach, We love Karon best of all the beaches along that streach. Great for walking and swiming. Plenty to look at close by and town is probably under 10 min walk. Our room was on the 3rd floor and on the south side, the outlook was pleasent as it looked out over vacant land with with some shrubs and grass areas. It had a small sea view from the balcony, and we could also look back toward the hills, very peacefull. great pool area.
Mod accomodations, clean and comfortable”
had a great one night stay at grand sunset. i loved the modernity of it all, and the exploration around the hotel (shops, massage, restaurants) - got a great recommendation to try out mama phuket's, a fabulous little restaurant around the corner. don't miss it! great for the price and location to the beach if you want the busyness of karon. we went on our excursion to phi phi island in the early am after checking out, and the concierge was also very helpful in telling us where to arrange our ride. a great location for getting transported to the pier for a ferry-away trip.
great location and value for the price”
i chose this hotel after seeing the picture of the rooftop pool. it was actually pretty small and the poolside bar was just basic (canned juice and chips. no fresh juice or food) and had no umbrellas (so you will burn!). but it was located just one block from the beautiful karon beach. i highly recommend staying in karon or kata if you are going to phuket. water is still clear and it is very chill. so the hotel location was just perfect. a few restaurants and other hotels are there, as well as massage places and spa closeby. a couple of food vendors show up at night on the beach road so you can enjoy local food very cheap too. it is about 300b for a taxi to patong. so the hotel was pretty new and my room was a suite with a nice garden view. also saw the buddha on top of the hill too, and a partial view of the ocean (karon). could see beautiful sunset. the room was very spacious and clean. new tv (hdmi hookup, yes) and great wifi. it is simple, not luxurious, but that's what i paid for and i was content. the shower was a bit weird, it was hard to get the right temprature, it was either very hot or cold. kind of got used to it though after one day. the staff was very friendly and polite (except for one guy who wasn't really helpful) but i suggest you write down anything important when speaking to them. i.e. booking a cab to the airport for a specific time. english is not their first language so it is better to do so, as i asked for a cab pickup for 1830 but they came an hour early. so overall, it was a very good deal and the location was the best. i like boutique hotels like this, not too big like hilton or movenpick (both nearby) but not too small like an inn. so if you want a smaller hotel with friendly service, thi is it.
Hotel was a short walk from the Karon beach, affordable & decent massage downstairs and very friendly staff. Although the eateries and nightlife around Karon beach pale in comparison to patong, it's only a 400 baht 15 min tuk tuk ride to patong which has better shopping spots. Hotel was new with modern interior and modern lifts. Room was fairly clean although there were ants on the walls and the electricity tripped once a night. Room floor tiles made noises but it's bearable. Roof top pool was nice with great view of the sunset but the swimming pool had dead bugs floating. Overall good stay when considering the price paid!!
Nice Hotel with Good Service”
first time stay in grand sunset hotel and i can say their service is good. i booked a deluxe room and they upgraded us to a bigger room and i was very shock that they have made such a service to us. i will recommend my friend if they are going to phuket for stay. good deal and good stay. thumbs up!
Modern style hotel with great staff”
the rooms have a very modern look with a quite minimalistic style. extensive use of light colours. the room facilities are good, the bed is great. the grand deluxe rooms varies quite much in size. breakfast is ok, given the fairly small size of the hotel. there is a swimming pool on the roof, which must be great on sunny days. unfortunately we did not get to use it much, since it was raining/stormy weather all of the three days we stayed in grand sunset hotel. there are laptops in the lobby which can be used(free of charge) by the hotel guests. the front desk staff is very likeable and serviceminded. probably one of the best assets of this hotel. location is ok. have to walk a couple of hundred metres to get to the beach road. i did not find karon to be the most vibrant place, but i did not explore all of it. didn't see any good night spots/bars nearby the hotel. the beach itself was not much useable during our stay in karon. waves were too high, and nobody dared to swim. the beach was actual quite disappointing and did not meet my expectations.
Great location and very friendly staff”
I stayed for a week at Grand Sunset Hotel. I enjoyed every minute. The sunsets from the rooftop pool are the best I've seen. The beach is very close and if you want to rent a scooter and feel like a short walk, go down the street for about ten minutes and you can get the best deal in Phuket.
A great base for our Karon Beach getaway”
We chose this hotel based on the location of the accommodation of our friend's hotel and that it was cheaper than their place. Staff were helpful and willing. We really appreciated being able to use their wifi and front desk lounge for an hour or so to find accomodation in chiang mai and check into our flights, even though we had already checked out. They still offered us tea and coffee and printed out our tickets for us too! The room we had was cosy, but all we needed was the comfortable bed as we were out all day and most of the night anyway. You can hear the doors of neighbouring rooms opening and closing, as well as mild chatter as people walked the corridor, but it didn't bother us too much as that was the extent of the noise. Our room had a balcony which didn't offer much in terms of view, but came in handy to dry clothes and bathers. The swimming pool upstairs in nice for a quick dip, with a bar for just the basics. Stop by in the evening when it is lit up and the jets are on. Breakfast is okay too - for 200baht it's easier than trying to find food out on the street and you get pastries, toast, cereals, fruit, juices, tea, coffee, some Thai porridges and eggs made to order. The location is great - just a couple of minutes walk to the beach front. If you like things relaxed and quiet, Grand Sunset is in a great spot. More action is only a short tuk tuk ride away. The main busy street is a fair walk away, but there is a little strip of shops the next street over with some restaurants, stores and of course the market that can tide you over.
