Pleasant stay near the historical park”

            Great location, clean, helpful

we had a great stay at grandparent's home. the room was much nicer and cleaner than i expected, much better than many of my previous guesthouse stays at other places. besides a bed, the room also has four chairs in it and two tables. there are also four glasses for water. the tv didn't work, but we didn't care much for that. the ac and fridge worked well. the bathroom a bit cramped, but still nothing wrong with it. besides the comfortable room, the staff at grandparent's house is hard to beat. they are very friendly and helpful. they helped us find bikes to rent (next door, only 50baht for one 24-hour day) and gave us a great map of ayutthaya and recommended places to go, sights to see.

            Simple and homely”

Comfortable and clean rooms, great location

grandparent's home is conveniently located about 200m from the bus terminal within the historic island of ayutthaya, and is just a junction away from two beautiful temple compounds - wat mahathat and wat rachaburana. the people running the hostel are friendly and approachable, and there are some who are fluent in english. the beds are clean and comfortable. request for a room on the second floor if you are not a smoker. the breakfast was very simple - just two pieces of toast and a choice of coffee or tea - we skipped the breakfast and went food hunting at the morning market.

            Couldn't Ask For More!!”

Great price, terrific location, every amenity, good lighting, fridge, good air con, quiet!

We loved our stay at Grandparent's Home! It was super clean, and someone has spent lots of time thinking about the rooms and adding anything that a traveler would want! We had 2 small tables and four chairs in our room, nice hooks to hang up our gear, refrigerator, good aircon, strong internet (had 6 different routers!). The location is just 2 blocks from the historical sites and another 2 blocks to a wonderful night market with so many food choices! They have a restaurant on site where we bought breakfast each morning - yogurt with fruit, which was great. Another nice feature is that they have a fenced in area behind each room where you can hang up your laundry! I can't see why anyone wouldn't be happy staying here. The only cons I can think of are - no free breakfast, no inroom safe but those are easy to live without. I need plenty of light, hot water, cleanliness, safety, internet and they had all those. We would certainly stay here again!!

Great location, spotless room and friendly staff

We enjoyed the stay at Grandparent's Home during our Ayutthaya trip. The hotel is very, very clean, walking distance to Ancient city and Night market (in 5 mins walk). This hotel is the best choice for those who want to explore the ancient city and local night life of Ayutthaya.

Grandfather's Home is where you want to stay”

Good place to stay at. Very good location. Comfortable, quiet room and excellent service received from the staff. Room for improvement: water heater did not seem to work in my room, which was not a major issue considering the heat that prevails in Ayutthaya, and the television set was probably also inherited from the grandparent's home long time back.

Great Hotel in a Great Location”

Great Location, Bicycle Rental, Restaurant, Very Friendly

Our stay at Grandparent's Home was lovely. The rooms are inexpensive, clean, and cozy. Everyone we talked to was really sweet and helpful. It's also in a great part of town—close to most of the wats, and a short bike ride away from a great night market. The only problem with our room was that the window screen was a bit out of place, allowing some bugs in (notably, some large cockroaches). I covered up the hole and our problem was solved (and it seemed that other rooms didn't have this issue), so I wouldn't worry about it!

Cheap, cheerful, pleasant and peaceful guesrhouse”

            Location, nicely decorated, cafe

Grandparent's Home is the only place I ever want to stay in Ayutthaya! It is a lovely little guesthouse with peaceful, unusually private rooms, good aircon and a cafe/restaurant overlooking the street. Staff were very helpful when an issue came up with our travel on to Bangkok.

Very clean rooms and friendly people”

            very clean rooms

Although we ended up staying at Grandparent's Home for a whole of 8 hours, the place was lovely, the staff great, the restaurant yummy, and the location ok. The location was further from the river than we thought it was, but a nice walk in pouring rain with our umbrellas made us happy to get there when we did. The rooms were very clean, could smell the detergent from the bedding and towels. From memory, there was soap and shampoo and conditioner, and maybe a shower cap? Two bottles of water in the fridge for you to have, a working airconditoner and television. Oh and four chairs and two tables! Grandparent's Home looks like they do long term accommodation there also. It felt nice and comfortable. Wifi was flawless!

Clean rooms, quiet place, great service & position”

            good position,helpful staff,clean rooms,very quiet at night

we checked in one day earlier than what we booked onlilne but the staff was helpful and kept a room for us even on short notice. 500b/night is great value for money...the room was big, quiet, very clean, and same goes for toilet. fridge, wifi, a/c, hot shower...we missed nothing. very quiet at night. you cross the road nearby and in 3 minutes you are among the ruins...nice position. when night comes, you are just a kick away from the night market on th naresuan. the family that runs the guesthouse is very friendly and can provide information on the area. they have a guard at night outside the gate so the place is quite safe. they rent bicicles at a ridicolous price, i recommend them to go around the ruins and up to the market in the northeast corner of the city. thai tea and fruit shakes at the little restaurant were delicious, but we did not try anything else, and the english breakfast was not very rich. i would go back here if i ever went back to ayutthaya, unless i found another cheap place that provided some extra (luxury) comfort like massages... i recommend it to anyone going to ayutthaya for the first time. tip: be ready with the guesthouse phone number and when you get to ayutthaya have the tuk-tuk driver call the owner to have her explain the whereabouts of the place. once you get there it is easy to find it on your own, but first time may be tricky.

            No reason to stay elsewhere”

OK price, location, near night market.

Third time to Ayutthaya, third stay at Grandparent's Home. Location is great - near to temples, near to bus station, near to night market. Staff are courteous, room is comfortable, even the dogs are friendly. I recommend this guesthouse (and Ayutthaya in general) highly.

            Good value”

After arriving on the train at 5am we caught the boat across the moat and walked to the Grandparent's Home. I wouldn't recommend doing this in the heat of the day but it wasn't too bad first thing in the morning. We sat outside at a table until a woman arrived around 7am and she let us check in early which we really appreciated (I booked before we arrived). We were able to shower, nap and drop off our stuff before exploring the city. The location is good - close to bicycle rentals, wats and a few cheap eats. The room was clean and had a fridge which is always a treat for cold water. I recommend staying here!

Hard to find small hotel with nice staff”

Half a block to ancient ruins, attached restaurant has good food at reasonable prices

We arrived by bus and asked the local tuk-tuk guy how to get to Grandparents Home. We had the address. The guy spoke with some other men, and the pointed us down the road. They did not know where this hotel is. Fortunately, there were several tour offices where we were able to get help. The hotel is brand new, as are all the other hotels in Ayutthaya, because the recent flood covered the city in 2 meters of water. The low door to the bathroom is a hazard. My husband knocked his head on it twice. The bathroom has a sewer gas odor. Otherwise, our stay was pleasant. The young lady running the office was very nice and helpful. The restaurant had good tasting food at reasonable prices.

Lovely family run hotel, close to attractions”

Location, price, friendliness of staff, bike hire

The hotel was bigger than we expected and the rooms were basic but very clean and comfortable. The restaurant and bar were small, friendly and well-priced and the food was great. We stayed one night so we could see the ruins of Ayutthaya illuminated and then hired bikes to get around the park the next day. An unexpected bonus and delight was the Ayutthaya festival, which had been postponed in October due to flooding. The sound and light show against the temple ruins depicting various battles during their history, even including battles on elephant back, was fantastic and the food stalls and general atmosphere were really something to remember.

            Convenient place with excellent host”

close by Ayutthaya historical park, a couple of minute walk to night market

We had a wonderful stay in Grandparent's home. The host seemed to be very helpful and guided us to the place via the taxi driver (since he was not good at English); She has also told us to bargain the taxi price which cost us 700 baht for a ride from Dong Muang airport. Our room was not too small with basic amenities and an extra bed for our son (although we did not ask for). The breakfast was a little bit basic, only 2 pieces of toast with jam and butter for the whole family. Anyway, you can easily find more food on the street if you are still hungry

            Clean

We enjoyed the stay at Grandparent's Home during our Ayutthaya trip. The hotel is very, very clean, walking distance to Ancient city and Night market (in 5 mins walk). This hotel is the best choice for those who want to explore the ancient city and local night life of Ayutthaya

            Comfortable rooms, close to everything

By far the best place we stayed in Thailand. This hotel is run by lovely family who did their best to make us enjoy our stay every minute. I couldn't find such helpful staff in other hotels. Rooms are clean, comfortable and well kept. Prices in restaurant are reasonable and food is great. Hotel is located on the central street in old Ayutthaya, few steps from temples. Also close to market and bus station. Would definitely back again. Excellent value for money!

            Okay, Not Brilliant”

            location, clean, comfortable room

I would probably have been happier with this place if I hadn't spent the previous night at other outstanding place (had to move because was fully booked). Grandparent's Home suffered by comparison. The buildings are jammed close together and although the room was comfortable enough it lacked all character. I was surprised when they wanted 250 baht for the late afternoon river trip around the island. I said everyone else in town asked 200 baht. They tried to blame "the agent". So I went to other place and booked the trip for 200. I was picked up by a s0ongthaew, who then went to Grandparent's to pick up the people who paid 250. On a similar note, I asked them to make a dish not on their menu -- Yam Khai Dao, or spicy fried egg salad. They agreed and it was very good. But when the bill came they charged 120 baht for a dish that I've never been charged more than 80 for elsewhere. So the greed factor put me off some, too. I won't stay here again.

Friendly staff at great river guesthouse”

An amazing lunge area overlooking the river, friendly staff, does laundry, has bicycles, amazing pillows, great beds

This place was great, all the way from the pillows and beds to the staff and services. It's right on the river in a quiet area, and close to the bars and restaurants that you'll likely want to go to (i.e. not the incredibly expensive ones next to the Bridge). One in particular was called something like Vegetarian Vegan Issan Food or something like that... really cheap and excellent food... turn left as you come out of the guesthouse road and it's on the right side maybe 2 minutes down. if there is one downside, it's that it's a bit too far to walk to the Bridge. Not a problem if you take one of their bicycles or rent a motorbike... but it probably took us about 20 minutes or so to walk there. Not a big deal, as we got a motorbike after that and took it to the Erawon waterfall (highly recommended), but something to think about if you don't do bicycles or motorbikes. And of course, tuk tuks are always an option. Great hotel at a great price. Oh, one more thing, get a fan room if you are on the fence between that and an A/C, because we got cold even with just he fan on all night... though we went in December, so it's the start to middle of the cool season.

            friendly staff

excellent location near the main ruins, clean comfortable rooms with own bathroom facilities and aircondition. Has a lovely homely feeling. As soon as we arrived we were immediately attended to with eagerness and a friendly welcoming smile and attitude. We had our dinner there as well which was also excellent with soft background music. To top it they gave us a small tour and a free lift to the station!! We couldn't believe it! We didn't get such service at hotels we paid 10 time the price we paid here. If we manage to go back we will definetly stay here again.
