The resort boasts beautiful surroundings with lush tropical greenery, and provides a relaxing hot spring experience with a variety of options to choose from. In addition, the staff is accommodating and provides good service. The resort also offers great hiking trails with different challenging levels and fantastic food at restaurants with a wide range of choices. Finally, the clean and well-kept premises provide a perfect retreat from the busy city life.

Stayed for 1 night as 4yrs old daughter loves dinosaurs. It was around 30mins drive awsy from the closest city. So Uber Eats is out of range. They do have a small convenience store, a Chinese restaurant, a bar and Western restaurant (buffet) available for dinner. Otherwise you can bring your own food beforehand. Breakfast is just the normal buffet breakfast with the usual - sausages, eggs, bread, cereal, congee, tea, coffee, yogurt, pastries, etc. not the greatest but still ok. There’s an outdoor hot spring (included in the price for guests) and outdoor swimming pool too. Fairly clean. Please be reminded that for swimming and hotsprings, guests are required to wear swimming caps. If you have one at home, it’s recommended you bring your own to avoid buying a new one. There’s also a small games / entertainment center which includes playroom, several arcade games, snooker/pool table available for guests. Playroom is free of charge, others have to pay. Outdoors - there are dinosaurs available for you to take photos with. Some dinosaurs were you pay money to ride on. Outdoor slides. There is also walking trails (30mins, 60mins and 90mins) to walk. For the room, we stayed in the family room which was fairly clean. Small “room” area where your child can choose to sleep on their own, with a tent and mini slide. The room also have a Sega game console to play with. Tho it’s very old with limited games. Overall I think it’s very worth it if you like nature, dinosaurs, outdoors with the family. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

Pros: Overall, most of our stay at the hotel was great. The staff were really friendly, and the room was clean and tidy. We loved the beautiful forest view from our room’s window—it made the stay feel peaceful and relaxing. Our booking also included free breakfast on the second day, which had a good variety of options. Cons: When we first entered our room, there was a strange smell that was noticeable right away. The air conditioning also wasn’t cold enough, so the room felt poorly ventilated. I called the front desk to report the issue, and they sent someone to check it. They tried to fix it, but after inspecting the AC, they just said it was normal and told us to wait a bit longer for it to cool down. Also, the fridge in the room wasn’t working, and the temperature inside was quite high.

The resort area has a fantastic forest walkways that suit different level of walkers/hikers. It's very quiet and peaceful and the room in general is clean but we are concern with the cleanliness of the hot spring from some past reviews by other travelers so we did not try to hot spring. The view of our room is quiet bad, we only have 2 people but is being so called "upgrade" to place into a 3 person room (1 double, 1 single bed) on the 2/F that is literally looking out to the parking lot of all the cars blocking in front (including our own vehicle). We would be happy to stay in our original 2 person Standard Twin room with a reasonable window view. I have to compliment that the live music band at the cafe is fantastic, the couple sang really well and we enjoyed it, so this is a +1 to the resort providing this lovely value added. Overall, we still have a positive stay as this is birthday celebration getaway so we want to let ourself enjoy and not to be negative.

Arrived very early due to the overnight flight. Hotel staff were very helpful allowed us to store our luggage, change into swimsuits and start using the facilities like swimming pool and hot springs. Great help there. The facilities is in a rainforest area and have nice trails leading up to the forest. It’s decorated with a dinosaur theme with a few children playground. It also includes dinosaur shows which the kids love. The hotspring is nice and clean and provides a variety of massaging effect pools that really helps to relieve your tension. Breakfast is buffet with both Chinese and Western style dishes. All in all a very enjoyable stay.

“great get-away close to Taipei”
Many residents of Taipei and New City Taipei have options for great hotel stays within an hour of their residence. Great Roots Forestry Spa Resort is an excellent choice in the 5-star mid-price range. Great Roots has enough to keep you entertained and well-supplied for a full two-night stay. FOOD: we enjoyed the tasty breakfast buffet (7-10 am) each morning and a higher-end evening buffet at Prince Western each night with prime rib, canned beer, and other nice Chinese and Western choices. RELAXATION: We chose the deluxe mountain view room with our own hot and cold tubs, a shower, bidet toilet and king bed (bed was a bit hard for western standards of comfort). Room frig comes with two waters, sprite, Coke and two beers, plus the usual instant tea and coffee packets. The outdoor bathing suit spa served as a great daytime place to rest, soak in hot and cold tubs, sauna, and steam options. The outdoor pool 8 am-noon, 2 pm - 6 pm until the end of September) is well-shaded in early morning and late afternoon for lap swimming, but first hour in morning is best to avoid the kids and busyness. ENTERTAINMENT: The ground floor of the Prince Resort building has a nice children play area, plus arcade games (darts, basketball, drum whack, for 20NT coin cost), video games like Mario Kart, or a free pool table or two ping pong tables. The name of the Spa is taken from one of the largest Board Root trees known to be in Taiwan (Chinese, DaBanGen, literally big board root) and is prominent by the trail for photos on the shortest 30-minute hike route. The other two hikes climb the hilltop above the resort, offering a nice view of the valley from the highest point of the 3rd trail (90-minute hike, only recommended in dry weather due to muddy path without stairs). The outdoor BBQ stations are also nice in good weather. For kids, the animated robotic T-Rex and Velociraptor, by the outdoor BBQ, plus the motionless models in the kids' play area and Brachiosaurus skeleton by the main office, will surely be a fun photo op. Add the tea museum and tea-tasting, plus a few other shops and you have a nice all-in-one resort for a great two-day mountain-side getaway close to northern Taiwan!
