Excellent place run by the loveliest people”
One of the highlights of this trip is definitely staying at Shigeru-san and Hitomi-sun's wonderful cabin in the middle of the forest! The place looks like a Muji showroom, but better: homey, thoughtful, and well-appointed with nice little things that show the owners love their home. Hitomi-san made the most beauriful and delicious breakfast for me, yes I ate it all! I showed my friends on my social media, before the food disappeared, everyone was jealous even my mother! Shigeru-san is that cool wacky uncle, warm and easy-going, made me feel at ease right away with his funny jokes. He picked me up from the jetty port and dropped me off at the bus station (so did Hitomi-san), they also helped me plan my very short time at Yakushima so that I was able to do as much as I can. They were so thoughtful and helpful with everything from the very beginning, I really felt welcome. Yakushima is always lovely, and meeting people like them is what makes the place even better. So happy!

Cool common area to chill and read comics if desired. The curtains for the bunk beds could be better as it is not very effective in blocking light. Overall it is a good and very affordable place to stay in Kagoshima.

Nice place to stay”
I stayed here for one night so I cannot really say something. But the room was clean and comfortable, the guy at the reception recommended me an awesome place for Tonkatsu and it was close to the ferry. The only thing it was a bit far from the station. But I would stay here again.

Expected a cleaner place for this price”
First of all, The place is very crowded, too much people in one room, even for a dormitery hostel, The beds are dusty and have a bad smell and the shower and kitchen have alot of Rust and hair is all over the place. The location is very good although- Five minutes from the port and a big transportation and shopping street.

A dormitory room ”
I stayed two nights there. It’s too awful. Because you can not fall asleep. I chose the upper bed. The bed wobbled as the big car passed. At first I thought it was an earthquake. And the sound insulation of the room is really bad.

Uncomfortable nights sleep.”
Even though I wore ear plugs to bed, I was unable to sleep as other guests kept making noises at all hours of the night. I had to pay extra for a towel so I could dry myself after having a shower. The towel was too small. There was no proper shampoo/conditioner/body soap. Just this watery liquid. I wanted to check in early but there was no staff to help me. I was also overcharged for my stay.

Affordable option in a good location”
The Green Guest house is a good option for those traveling on a budget. It offers both private and dormitory rooms and although guests share bathroom facilities the place is quiet and well maintained. It's also located near dolphin port where you go to catch the ferry to Sakurajima or the bus to Senganen. The tram stop to the centre of town is also a short walk away in the opposite direction. Coming back from town at night is no problem as you can take the tram, or if you miss that then a taxi is no more than 1000 yen or so. All in all, the Green guest house is a good option for those that want to see Kagoshima on a budget.

Green Guest House was basically everything I needed it to be. Very affordable, and for that I got a single private room, very clean, big enough for my purposes, with free strong Wi-Fi, individual A/C system - what else do you really need? There was even a balcony, which is an extra plus. The showers, shared bathroom, etc. were all plenty clean and well-maintained; they even provide shampoo and soap, which I know is sort of minimal for a hotel, but is more than I expected for a hostel. The lobby staff were plenty kind and helpful, and all in all the Guest House had the perfect balance, for me, of being professional, clean, etc. (not too backpacker, not at all loud or rowdy or anything), while also feeling friendly, cozy, and local (not too business hotel, not too formal). I want a bit of local flavor when I travel - I don't want to stay in a hotel room that looks and feels like a hotel room; and, I don't need a whole huge hotel room with all the amenities, and I certainly don't need to pay for such a thing. A small, clean, well-maintained room, with wifi, A/C, enough power outlets, bathroom, shower, and so on, that's all I need. Green Guest House was precisely what I was looking for, and at a very reasonable price.

Clean and a great location”
Good value. Great location near the ferry terminals and shopping/dining areas (~5mins walk). Dorms and facilities are clean and tidy with air-con (a must in summer!). Relaxed vibe. Kagoshima is covered in a layer of ash though, so expect a bit of grey powder around. The friendly English speaking staff are helpful with maps, etc. There's a few rental bikes out front (you pay by donation if less than a day) but we didn't use them.

AC Overloaded”
10 people in a room + normal AC unit = so hot it becomes impossible to sleep. Location is about a 12 min walk from Izudori Station, which is about 5 stops away from Kagoshima-Chuo. However, it's great if you want to catch the ferry early in the morning as the hostel is about a 10 min walk to Sakurajima ferry and about a 5 min walk to the Yagoshima ferries.

Great spot to stop on your way to Yakushima”
This is a great guest house/hostel. I stayed for one night on my way to Yakushima. It was great to be a quick walk from the port, since I had an early morning boat ride. Two showers, three restrooms, vending machine, washing machine, kitchen and a great rooftop lounge area.

Back to college”
Green guest house is a blast from the past, being pretty much a college dorm/apartment with the same level of cleanliness. The staff are kinda relaxed but didn't know how to work their own lockers, and seem kind of out of it. That being said, it wasn't expensive, it had air conditioning that worked, the beds were clean, and it was super close to the ferry terminal, so it's perfect as a one night before you catch a ferry somewhere else kind of thing.

we have stayed in some other guest houses in japan but green guest house maybe, sadly, the worst one so far... on the very first night of our stay, 6-7 other ppl were chatting and laughing quite loudly near the common room / pantry / right outside our room... it was 11pm. according to the rules and stuff put up right on the walls in the pantry and common room, no one is supposed to make any noise n disturb other ppl... my husband and i tried to hit the bed and got some sleep since 10-ish, but at 12 midnight, they were still making a lot of noise... you can imagine the rest of our night... (i talked to them and asked them to keep it really low or go to the common room on g/f...) apart from the noise from the common room, you may also be disturbed by some other noise as the guest house is located very close to the main road... if you are going to stay in this guest house, get yourself some earplugs. ^^ if you are going in august for the fireworks, this guest house is an excellent choice though since it's very close to the harbour and the venue of the firework is just a 10 minutes walk away.
