Lovely hotel and service with a smile”
When I booked Griya Santrian, I thought it was expensive. However, after our stay there I did not mind it one bit. The hotel is built in the beautiful Balinese style, with lovely gardens, has 3 swimming pools and amazing white sand beach at one end. The location is also very convenient with lots of restaurants and shops outside. We had booked a room with extra bed for my son without breakfast. On checking in, we were delighted to find that we had been upgraded to a lovely suite and were also given vouchers for a discounted breakfast. The breakfast was excellent and we availed the voucher every day of our stay there. The staff of the hotel is very polite and attentive and requests were promptly attended to. The one minus was the non - availability of wi-fi in the room. The hotel has a common area where there are 2 computers for public use and wi fi but this is a bit away from the room. As happens in every hotel in Bali, guests "reserve" deck chairs by putting their towels so the "best" spots get taken very quickly. To conclude, Griya Santrian is an excellent place to stay especially if you want a relaxing holiday in Bali.
Holiday of a lifetime”
We had the most wonderful 2 week stay at the Griya Santrian earlier this month. Our group of 10 were aged from 2 to 70 and we had travelled to be together from the UK and NZ. The hotel itself is beautiful and impecibly maintained. The staff are friendly and helpful. The 3 pools kept our children happy all day and the beach was lovely. The buffet breakfast was enough to keep you going all day. In the evening there were so many different restaurants to choose from just 5-10 mins walk away and we never had a bad meal. I can highly recommend the Griya Santrian to Couples, families and groups wanting a relaxing holiday. We also did a variety of day trips when we had had enough of lounging around the pool. Sanur is well placed for day trips in Bali.
Relaxing in Bali”
I’m reluctant to rave too much about how wonderful the Griya Santrian is because I want to always be able to get a room there! From the moment we were met by the so pleasant Mira at Reception until we left 8 days later, we were so impressed. The staff greet you naturally and with friendship all over the resort. The rooms are clean and well appointed. There are 3 pools ...2 away from the beach front with wonderfully serene gardens around them. The breakfast was terrific with dozens of choices. The gardens are sublime with winding paths through Balinese structures and beautiful gardens. We had a couple of minor room issues.... they were immediately fixed. The resort gateway leads straight out into the Main Street and dozens of restaurants, massage places, laundry, bars with live music are very close. At the other end of the resort is the beach and the great boardwalk along Sanur beach. Again restaurants and shops are everywhere. This was our second visit and we will definitely go back.
Dear Glynys Om Swastyastu Thank you for choosing to stay at Griya Santrian again. We thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are so happy you found your stay with us relaxing. Our rooms are designed as spacious areas, blended with the tropical scenery, to allow a true holiday ambiance. We appreciate your input regarding our room and it has been shared with respective management. We hope during your next visit to Griya Santrian, you will find our facilities exceed your expectations. Thank You Best Regards Griya Santrian Management
The majority of the Sanur hotels and resorts were built 25 to 50 years ago and Girya Santrain was built in 1970’s however it’s been updated several times since but the rooms still have a dated atmosphere. The reason I mention this is because the majority of the beach front hotels in Sanur can’t be compared with the more modern hotels rooms elsewhere in Bali. It’s context, Sanur with its white sand and peaceful atmosphere is different to the hectic pace of the Kuta, Legian, Seminyak side where the hotels are more modern. Griya Santrain would be one the better beach front hotel/resorts with several pools, the pool bar looks like lots of fun and with direct access to the beach it a great spot. The gardens are well established and beautiful. A dated but a decent sized bathroom with separate shower and bathtub which is a blessing, the need to not get into the bathtub to have shower was certainly appreciated. Very comfortable bed and a selection of pillows with quality linen. Perfect! The “Pool View” room was great, but if you wanted peace and quiet I imagine the Garden View rooms would suit. The hotel restaurant set right on the beach is very nice however I think the hotel management should increase the budget of the kitchen… if you get my meaning. Breakfast, I guess it could be classed as equivalent to 3 star hotel. The morning coffee is either the brewed style or AUD$4.20 extra for a cappuccino which is equally as bad… skip the coffee and go to one of the other beach front hotels with a trained barista at the machine. In general, the food is below par of what is served elsewhere in Bali, why management doesn’t improve the situation is astonishing. They have good, friendly capable staff, the perfect location therefore why not make it the point of difference between other eateries in Sanur? Send the kitchen staff to some of the places in Seminyak. For breakfast and lunch “The Nook”, for dinner there are too many to mention. People do pay for a great meal and also retur
We made a last minute booking as we were very dissatisfied with the staff and accommodation at a hotel in Seminyak. As we had previously enjoyed our stay at the Puri Santrian, the Santrian hotels were our first choice for alternative accommodation. Luckily they had one room available. It was an extra delight to be upgraded on our arrival. The rooms were exceptionally comfortable and clean and the gardens were extremely relaxing. I would highly recomend the Santrian hotels to everyone. After our initial first miserable days in Seminyak, The Griya Santrian in Sanur renewed our faith in Bali as a desired holiday destination.
Beachside resort in Sanur”
Stayed many times at Griya Santrian since 2004 and have always enjoyed the quietness and location. With the growth in tourists from (mainly) European countries, Sanur was much busier than we have experienced before and thus Griya Santrian was also busy. Tourist behaviour (like anywhere) is about them having as much experience that they can fit in. Noisy arrivals, pool seats "reserved" all day with towels and loud and disrespectful pool play by young adults and parents alike. Why is it that you must be heard? The resort, it's staff and the facilities have continued to develop and impress over the years, but one thing at Griya does need to be enhanced. The food in the main is "lousy." Often served cool or cold with nothing good to say you're better off heading out to enjoy some of the lovely local cafe's and bars in close proximity. We would still stay at Griya again, but in a quieter period.
Excellent Sanur Beach hotel”
We stayed at the Griya Santrian for six nights and had the most relaxing holiday one could wish for. The grounds are beautiful with manicured gardens and ornamental Balinese architectural structures. Our room was large with a large bathroom and a wide balcony. It was located upstairs in the garden wing away from the pools but in close proximity and quiet. The beach is lovely with lounge beds and umbrellas and access to the main restaurant and the Beach Corner restaurant. The main pool has a swim up bar and is located adjacent to the beach and surrounded by lounge beds. Removed from the beach is a magnificent, quiet pool with spa and beautiful surroundings. The property is within walking distance of some good restaurants at the beachfront and also in the main road of Sanur. If you want them, local markets are available to the north and south of the hotel but the stall holders are pushy to the point of annoyance. The beach at the front of the hotel seems private and free of local vendors. The staff are most accommodating and helpful. The room was very comfortable, not luxurious in the 5-6 style but well appointed and importantly, well air-conditioned. I hope to have the opportunity to go back again.
Best Resort in Sanur”
While the facilities were a bit dated, the staff and location make Griya Santrian a good option for Sanur travelers. A few tips to keep in mind however: the food on the resort is expensive and sub par (excluding the free breakfast, which was quite good); instead, check out the many beach front restaurants within walking distance including Lutahs coffee, which has great smoothies and fresh juices; also, while most shopkeepers were quite receptive to a simple "no", there are a few women who will follow you down the beach and give you a sad story about how their business is failing and so on. These women are incredibly persistent and will stop at nothing; if you don't want to be bothered either stay by the pool or be firm in saying no the first time. Trust me, this will make for a much more pleasant holiday.
The Griya Santrian is a lovely resort set in gorgeous grounds and right on the beach. Loved the balinese style throughout. It was costly at the peak time I booked, so not sure it was the best value for money. I'm sure this varies throughout the year. Staff were friendly and welcoming. My friend and I were upgraded to a beach wing room which we really appreciated. Facilities are great. The pools are beautiful and there are lots of comfortable beach loungers on the beach. Breakfast was fine, we also ate at the restaurant a couple of times and enjoyed our meals. Our spa experience was great. The spa is lovely and all the little extra touches made it special. The beach location and connection to the walk/cycle way which has restaurants on the beach, as well as being close to the main road with lots of shops etc makes it a great spot in Sanur.
Dear Susan Om Swastyastu We appreciate the time taken to write about your recent stay at our resort. We are glad to hear you had a relaxing time and created a lovely getaway. It is nice knowing you enjoyed our Room and Rama Sita Spa. All our team will be happy to hear you consider our resort and beach a highlight of your stay. Best Regards Griya Santrian Management
Outstanding doesn't even begin to describe it!”
From the moment we stepped into the hotel lobby, we knew we were going to be in for a wonderful experience. We were warmly welcomed by lovely smiling faces, were given a welcome drink and a cool refresher towel. We were escorted to our room by a very unassuming gentleman who was happy to assist us with anything we needed. Our room was delightful, spacious, clean and just the right temperature. A fresh fruit platter awaited us there too. This experience set the scene for the week that followed. We were completely blown away by the immense beauty that surrounded us, it truly overloaded the senses and was aesthetically pleasing at every turn. The food was amazing, the customer service was even better. Nothing was ever a problem. Even on the one or two occasions when they were not able to accommodate our request, we were told in such a polite manner it almost felt like a yes! The beach is right at the front door, the in-pool bar was lovely, all that you would expect and much, much more was within easy reach. Every box was ticked for us by this hotel on this holiday. We have already started planning our next trip and will be staying here again. Thank you Griya Santrian, Sanur, you were marvellous.
Loved our stay - will definitely be back”
The rooms are spacious and clean with great air conditioning. The pools are wonderful - 3 to choose from and each offers a unique charm. Even when at full occupancy, the resort doesn't feel crowded which can often happen and is probably one of the main reasons why we will be coming back. It is so nice to be beach front as the sand is nice in Sanur and you can actually swim in the ocean. I would recommend the Griya Santrian to friends or anyone who is considering staying in Sanur.
Dear Karen Om Swastyastu Thank you for your positive feedback from your recent stay at Griya Santrian. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay and our entire team had pushed themselves a little further to satisfy your needs and provide a true Santrian experience. Thank you for recommending us and we look forward to welcoming you and your family back on your next visit to Bali. Best Regards Griya Santrian Management
nice beach side resort with easy access to places”
we like almost everything about this place. location is very convenient, at the heart of sanur that has plenty of shopping & dining options around. the staff were extremely courteous. the room type that we had booked does not allow for extra bed which we needed for our mum, therefore they upgraded our room for free!! (we still have to pay for the extra bed, but the fact they bumped us up for free is really heartwarming). the room to which we got upgraded, is really spacious with walk-in wardrobe and spacious bathroom & bath tub. one downside is the wall between our room and next door seems to be made of thin gypsum board so at night we were able to join in the conversation of our neighbors. as our 9-month old son was with us and it was already past 11pm, a few bang on the walls sadly ended the short relationship we had with the newly found kind next door friends. we intentionally skipped breakfast at the hotel because we wanted to have local breakfast and thankfully there's a hidden gem not many would know- a warung nasi bali (balinese mixed rice) located just off sanur about 10 minutes drive from the hotel, which was recommended by our kind driver. the beach side view of the resort is quite relaxing, though we didnt have much time to swim on the beach or soak under the sun. sanur beach is famous for its calm waters, so we had nice morning & evening strolls by the beach. there are two pools in the resort, one by the beach side which looks older but with nicer view facing the beach; and another further inside which is nearer to our room and looks newer & nicer. local & international food are easily accessible outside this resort, and together with the so many small independent retail kiosks, these provide pleasant walk whether you are looking for shopping or not. a bit surprised to know that this resort is rated (or rated themselves) as three star. easily a four star for us- but our standards are probably lower than yours.
Serene and healing”
We, too were looking for quiet, serene ocean lodging in order to relax, recover and open/heal from what was an incredible visit to Bali, before we flew back to Thailand and then the U.S. Griya was perfectly so. Peaceful, open, beautiful facility/resort with kind, caring and attentive staff... it filled our needs, hopes and wishes. I cannot begin to express my gratitude that Griya exists! The beach was quiet, clean, easy, gorgeous... every morning sunrise walks and quiet meditation with the sand, the ocean, the sky and the dogs (loved them!) was absolutely healing for us. Late afternoon/evening walks along the beach, again, perfect for our over-stimulated travel bodies and minds. We found ourself moving slower, slower... and the surroundings at the resort are incredible. The pools, the design and layout of the Griya, the plantings, statuary, all done with exceptional awareness of flow, peace, beauty and serenity. This time was one of our most treasured pieces of Bali. Food was good, the band that played our last night amazing. All in all: perfection! Namaste.
Something to suit all tastes”
After the hustle and bustle of Seminyak it was wonderful to get to Sanur and arrive in the amazing bliss of Griya. From the impressive reception area we were taken to our room passing two of the most serene and beautiful pool settings I have ever seen. Our garden room was spacious and clean.Heading towards the beach is yet another pool - this one the more 'fun' area. Plenty of lounges for the guests meant that we could always sit where we wanted even though the hotel was at 95% capacity. Food and drinks were standard Bali prices (not inflated because you were in an upmarket hotel) but if you wanted to go out to eat it was just a stroll up the street to fine dining, small warungs or live music. The beach is clean and just requires sorting out when high tide is for swimming. Our departure flight wasn't until 11.30pm but even though check out is at 12noon we were made welcome to continue to use the hotel facilities for the day and early evening - providing a bathroom area to freshen up with a shower before leaving for the airport. All in all an extremely relaxing and enjoyable experience. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Griya Santrian to all my friends and family. Jan Hudson Melbourne
Great location, friendly staff and good ambience”
I was travelling, as a solo parent, with my 2 children (11 & 13) who are quite experienced little travellers. This trip was last minute and we decided we’d try something adventurous, using Agoda and other sites to book as we went, staying in a different hotel every night and not eating at the same restaurant twice. Originally I tried to book Griya Santrian, but could not, so stayed up the road (Resparti) for 1 night before moving. Santrian was great and we’d go back there for a longer stay, no questions asked. The hotel grounds are beautiful and sprinkled with stone Balinese Sculpture. There are plenty of hotel meal options starting with breakfast which has a wide selection (including Vegemite for the Aussies) and is served with a view overlooking Sanur beach. The pool (beachside) was great and the kids loved the pool bar and the proximity to the beach. I loved being able to relax with a drink while they played, occasionally joining in. Unfortunately the internet connection is ONLY in the communal areas but I guess thay’ll expand that as the hotel is being currently upgraded. Along the beach, located right outside the hotel, is an abundance of touts offering water-based activities as well as massage/beauty services and there’s plenty of shopping close by. But be prepared to bargain on EVERYTHING! Right outside the hotel, on the road side is an abundance of restaurants & services (massage, shopping etc.) a short stroll. We’ll be back as a family.
Great hotel in great location”
We had a fantastic stay at Griya Santrian. Price of food and drinks was comparable with what you paid on the beach or the street. We ate there every lunchtime and were extremely happy with the variety offered and the quality of the food. There was a choice of 3 pools, all very pretty and well kept. Our room was of a good standard. The only issue we had was in the bathroom where the shower was over the bath and it was a hand held one which made it impossible to have a good shower. We will definitely be back to stay at Griya Santrian.
manicured Sanur boutique beach hotel ”
as my frist stop in bali, i was extremely happy to arrive at the very comfortable, amenity-filled griya santrian. with 3 pools, beach access, 2 restaurants, a gallery, beautifully kept & manicured grounds and friendly staff, gs was everything i needed after a 32 hours travel time to ease into bali culture. given the size of the grounds i expected the room to be bigger, though it was certainly sufficient for 2 to sleep, bathe comfortably and watch some bbc news in the evenings. to make my one big bid, two smaller (but bigger than twin) beds were pushed together, giving me a bed bigger than i've ever seen. a small table worked for room service yet the only chairs were too low and reclining - not really suited for use of the table. only major complaint is that the room (the deluxe garden suite, not a "suite", a room) had no windows except for the two glass doors which opened to a main garden & central pool. personally i'd rather not sacrifice privacy for natural light, and the lack of daylight got to me. but the grounds were gorgeous and spotless, everything comfortable and functional, and the staff so friendly. i learned that the santrian family of hotels are owned by balinese, unlike many other bigger hotels which are owned by foreign investors, and i appreciated just about everything. but as bali goes, even a discounted stay from agoda costs toward the high end of mid-range, and the room was a bit small and i would've like at least 1 window. overall however, great stay - you'll be comfortable, decently-fed should you decide to eat at the restaurants, centrally located, and in bali!
A very pleasant place to stay”
The Griya is nicely located on a strip with access to a lot of good restaurants, coffee, bars and various shops/stalls. The same can be said for the beachside pathway. Also close to a few convenience stores down the street if extra stocks for the room are required. Our room was a good size and the king-size bed was very comfortable. The daily room service was excellent and the room was always clean with sufficient bottled drinking water provided. The 'rotten egg' smell (a common Bali water problem!) that accompanied the initial bursts of the water from the shower, basin or toilet was an initial shock but we got used to it very quickly. The restaurant was good in quality and range of foods and the three pools and other amenities were great. The staff were, without exception, very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend the Griya Santrian!
Dear Graham Om Swastyastu It warms our heart to read your review of our resort, and we thank you for sharing it with us. We are happy that we exceeded your expectations and you enjoyed each day throughout your stay. We are thrilled to have delivered a truly pleasant stay for you. Your final words are an inspiration and motivation to our team and we look forward to welcoming you again soon. Thank You Best Regards Griya Santrian Management
Top class without a topclass price!”
Sanur is a lovely place for families or older couples. Doesn't mean it's dead as there is still plenty happening on Jl Tamblingan every evening. Sanur beach or boardwalk great for a walk in the mornings. Lots of people were out exercising, walking, running and biking. Griya Santrian is well located, the rooms are big, beds are big and comfortable, several pools located around the grounds, staff were very professional. I would definitely stay here again.
Very good hotel.”
This was our 3rd stay at Griya Santrian. We were fortunate enough to receive an upgrade to a deluxe room situated on the ground floor opposite the middle pool. The resort has 3 pools and all are great. The resort is located on the beach and has many great restaurants nearby. The breakfast is very good and the hotel staff are always friendly and helpful. The hotel has extensive gardens which are well maintained. We will stay at Griya Santrian again in the future.
