Best hotels & accommodations in Kyoto

I travelled together with a friend and had no place to stay in Kyoto. Luckily we found a guesthouse through this site which made our stay in the city so much better! The guesthouse was so new they didn't even have a proper sign outside, but that "problem" is no more. When we entered inside (a few hours early) our host Takeshi-san met us up with a bright smile. With...

I've booked a room for 4 with shower inside. Staff good, facilities good. I reached Kyoto early in the morning, I originally just need them to keep my luggage for me and I will come back at 3 pm for the check-in process, but the staff just checked-in for me, so I get a good place to take a rest, so thankful for the convenience that I've been given. The nearest su...

I loved the atmosphere and its convenient access to transportation and the different attractions. Considering how much the price of the hotels in Kyoto had been increased during the weekends, 25 dollars/a night is nothing but the reception staffs were not so friendly in my personal opinion but the lady I met works there as a cleaner was really kind and helpful. Her na...

The hotel is located within 10~15 min walk from Kyoto station central exit. But if you travel with infant or young children with luggages, I would suggest to take taxi from Kyoto station to the hotel. The room is equipped with induction cooker, microwave oven, fridge and washing machine without dryer. Thus you’ve to think of your own ways to make the clothes dry after...

We traveled all over Japan for a month and stayed in all kinds of accommodation. This one was voted by my family of four as the best value for money. We enjoyed our nightly bath, loved the kitchen, felt so comfortable with the super clean facilities and really appreciated the fieldly, helpful staff. Would recommend this to anyone! The location is not Kyoto central but ...

Loved this inn. The location is perfect. Halfway between gion district and kyoto station. In a quasi-residential area. Quiet neighborhood within seconds of subway station and local eateries and two family marts for groceries. Room size excellent for japan. Room comes with free use of smartphone, washing machine, dishes, kettle. No coffee machine but in Japan it's more...

Even though we need to check in at kyoto station, theres a shuttle bus to the accomodation. Theres a baggage storage so we can linger in kyoto for a bit after check out. Place was immaculately clean and there are adequate helpful information about the surrounding ( look in the info book on the table). Baggage can be easily forwarded at a nearby japan postal office ( ne...

We arrived at the premises around 1am, late and exhausted. (Public transport stops after 12am, buses 11pm and the taxi driver could not locate the accommodation and I went in the opposite direction) However, they sent me an e-mail with check in details just in case I came in after staff working hours. They made us felt welcome with notes, and allowing us to check in fi...

Simple, clean, great staff. Make sure you use this address only: 1-6, Suzutsukacho, South Kyoto, Kyoto, Japan 612 0011. Otherwise you will be walking an extra 20 minutes over to a back alley guesthouse also called KOTA. The guesthouse KOTA with dorms and Japanese rooms on this site that you want to book is a 2 minute walk from the Fushimi Inari temple bus stop on a ...

i booked the private room for 6 persons with shared bathroom. the was clean and comfy, each bed has its own electric plug, and it was very convenient. on 2nd floor, there are bathroom and powder room. The powder room quite spacious and they also provide several hairdryer in the room. They provide free bread for breakfast, bread was very good...👌 Staffs were very nice...

Excellent ryokan! Very close to Sanzen-in Temple, one of the best temples and gardens I've experienced. Great, friendly staff who picked us up at the Ohara bus station. Great location for people who want to avoid crowds of tourists and quiet nights with an onsen that looks out towards the mountains. Natural hot spring tub with maple leaves hanging overhead and mountain...

Everything about Resi Stay Kyoto Fuyacho exceeded our expectations. It is a traditional home yet with modern conveniences. It is equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay, and the staff is amazingly attentive, responding to our requests promptly even though no one is actually on site. So much better than staying at a five star hotel. We absolutely lov...

If you have stayed in any of their hostels in Japan you know what you will get. Friendly staff, good wifi, great amounts of local tourist information (cheap rental bikes, laundry, etc). It's like a 10 min walk from JR Kyoto train station and a bus ride away from the main Kyoto city (5 minutes on bus or walk 30 mins). But in Kyoto if you want to visit the temples... yo...

If you are a new traveler to Kyoto (solo or not). This capsule hostel is for you. the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable in sightseeing spots, events and tours. they were able to teach me where I could go for autumn leave night illumination which is famous in Kyoto. facilities are clean but bed is dusty (not for people with sinus issues). It has a very tradit...

We are happy staying at Le Studio. Its just 3min walk from nearest subway station. The facilities are good, it has a laundry machine, microwave, heater is good as we stayed this winter. The staff is very helpful. They helped us arrange for taxi pick up. I definitely recommend Le Studio when staying in Kyoto.

This location is right between some of the best areas of Kyoto. If you don't mind walking, you can navigate your way through the neighborhood streets and reach the Geisha District, Kyoto Station, popular river hangout spot, food market, busy shopping streets, and probably more, all by foot. The staff are very polite and if definitely brings a homey feel. Showers cou...

Booked for five nights and requested a room at the back of the hotel after reading other reviews about road noise. It was very quiet. Location is good, with a bus stop literally steps from the front door. NB: from Kyoto station, make sure to catch the 206 from bus bay A3 - this one heads northwest towards Shijo Omiya. Alight at Shimabaraguchi. (The 206 service from bus...

Everytime I visit Kyoto, I stayed close to Kyoto Station for easy access to all the buses and trains for sightseeing, also for food and shopping options. This property is very ideally located right next to Shosei-en Garden, which is in a quiet residential neighbourhood . 10-15 mins walk to Kyoto Station. The clean deluxe suite #206 was perfect for 4 adults with 4 ...

It was as good as it can get for the price, good value. Room is very basic but comfortable enough. Shower toiletries very adequate. Location wise, it is not as near to walk from Kyoto station with luggage, rather difficult to find, so best is to take local train one stop to Gojo station and ask around. Aafter that , piece of cake. It is riight around the corner fro...

I stayed there for three nights last week during my visit to Kyoto. The location is very strategic as is linked to a station-Sanjo Station. Room is clean, and the bathroom and toilet is built outside of the room. Overall experience is good however there is one thing I’m not satisfy which is they charge me 200Yen per luggage when I reach the hotel before I can check in...

I really love this place! the staff, Yang "Nancy" and Hong is very kind, polite, and informative. Me and my friend went to Kyoto for a week and only book for 2 days. But they offered us to extend there with no overpriced at all. The facility also completely satisfying. The laundry was free, the kitchen was clean, and the wi-fi was amazing. i got a lot of advices from t...

With that daily rental, this hostel offered what I had expected, especially free ear plugs and free morning refreshment - sandwich bread, butter, jam, coffee and tea. It also has a spacious and cozy common area and the sleeping place, i.e the capsule, was comfortable too. Added to its convenient location (located in the bustling Kawaramachi District) I will definitely ...

Hanakiya kyoto This ryokan nabs top slot as favourite of our whole trip. The owner (Emi-San) greeted us with a huge smile and proceeded to point out all the best places plus the best hanami (cherry blossom viewing). Following her instructions we went to gyomizukazadera which was amazing. And when we came back she had left fresh strawberries for us. Really nice touch. ...

Best hostel per budget so far I’ve been to in Japan. You get fridges to store food, kitchen to cook, coin laundry and locker to store small valuables. Downstairs is a cafe where you can eat all day, Nepali chicken curry is very good. Note that you make your own bed. For access, take Keihan train to Kiyomizu-Gojo station and walk here, or JR train to Kyoto station and ...

Hotel Staff especially Midori-san was very helpful. Kyoto hotels r unique. Commonly they hv staff during stipulated time for check-in/out. Luckily for us, Rinn Gion could keep our luggage as our departure flight was late at night. Their staff work inside a room, hence one would hv to knock on door for help. Rinn Gion Bishamon was a perfect hotel for us. It was in a v...

I had a pleasant stay! I love the room, it's big consider it's in Japan, and VERY cozy! Its got a bathtub, a laundry room, a fridge, a small kitchen and bar stand, a balcony... its got everything you need! The bed was very comfortable to sleep in, the shower water was big enough, there's really nothing to complain except if you have too many luggages with you, it's abo...

It was our first time in Japan and our itinerary includes Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka. Still our favorite would be in Kyoto even if we stayed just for a night. We love our 'Ryokan'-inspired room. We literally have the small table, seat cushions, complete with a tea set. We have to push the table and cushions aside to make way for our futon beds. The futon is very comfortable as ...

I loved Guest House Taiko-Ya. It is a tiny traditional Japanese house turned into a hostel. Everything has been well thought out and is extremely clean and comfortable. The staff were very accommodating and friendly, and helped us plan our stay in Kyoto. The bathroom was wonderful, although I must say that it wasn't that practical to have only one bathroom for the whol...

This is the largest room I've ever stayed in Japan. If you stayed at Japanese hotel once, you will know how narrow it can be. This apartment is the best you can find at this price. What you'll get is a studio-like apartment with toilet, shower room, kitchen and even with free washing machine. It's less than 1km to Kyoto JR, very convenient. Recommend to everyone who t...

Tsukito Guesthouse is the best place to stay in Kyoto. This century-old establishment has been welcoming guests for decades and is run by the most genuinely nice people. Nao-san is the friendliest, most awesome person in town with great recommendations. Thank you for the Kyoto beer ;) Not my first time at Tsukito Guesthouse and, if I pass by Kyoto again, definitely not...

Great location and the most welcome I have ever felt at a hostel after travelling over 2 years, all of the staff were amazing from the minute I arrived, the guest house itself is modern, extremely clean and very comfortable. We were in Kyoto for the foliage and booked this guesthouse because my wife wanted a room with a garden in a traditional Japanese house. This place is a self service guesthouse. You make your own bed. They have 2 bathrooms and 3 toilets outside the room (1 toilet is famale only). There's bus stop on the main road about 200m. Supermarket for food, convenient store just ...

Kyoto Guesthouse Hannari is a perfect place to stay if you're backpacking alone or in a small group. The price was cheap, and the accommodations were great. There are a few beds along one wall in the hallway, kind of like 2 bunkbeds, and then there are 4 rooms with 2 bunk beds each. I stayed in the halls. I could hear people talking in the separate room right next to m...

Nishijin is a quiet place which located far from Kyoto town. Kingyoya guesthouse surrounded by residential district, I found a piece of calm there and my one-day trip @ Nishijin is my favourite day among my 6 days trip in Kansai. I will definitely return to Kyoto and stay at Kingyoya again. Everything is awesome in Kingyoya, however if you stay during Winter, there wil...

It’s such a nice and very comfy to stay here. The train station is just nearby (Shichijo st. 320m, Exit3) and Kyoto station just 10mins walk. The hotel provides more than standard items such as facial cleansing foam , cleansing oil and leave on hair treatment. However the hotel is 90% of wooden, it’s probably trouble with noise if you have non-respect guests. Eve...

This is the first guest house that we've experienced that doesn't have an attending staff at all during check in and check out which was a bit confusing at first because we were wondering if we were even allowed to just go inside the room even though my name isn't written on the whiteboard for room assignments. We were also worried on how to pay afterwards and do the s...

For those who want to experience the traditional Japanese style home stay and with limited budget, Yululu would be the best choice. The bed and whole setting is comfy and cozy. The staff are very friendly. But the only limited is that it is not noise proof at night. Also, it has the best location, located at the city center, lots of coffee shops, gallery and boutiques ...

The guesthouse is very accessible as it is just a few walk to bus stops to and from Kyoto Station.. just across the street are Daiso, Uniqlo and Life supermarket where you can buy anything you need (food, clothes and other stuff).. plus, at each end of the street, around 300-400mts, you will find Family Mart.. the place is so cozy -- the common area is like you're real...

Guest House Kobako is located on a quiet alley close to many temples and nearby Gion. The 100 year old house has been lovingly restored by the hosts Aki and Yuki. It is a traditional Japanese home, beautiful in its simplicity. The tatami room we had was spacious and comfortable. The shared kitchen is perfect to make a cup of tea or coffee after a long day of sightsee...

I did not stay at the conventional room since I booked a dorm type room. But, this hostel is really beautiful. Yes, you can hear the sounds of the footsteps and even people talking but it's because of the thin walls of the renovated ryokan house. You can walk from Kyoto Station to the hostel (i love walking) maybe about 20mins, or u can opt to ride a bus. Ministop, Kyo...

It is getting harder and harder to find older ryokan/guesthouses in Kyoto like Riverside Takase. Neighborhood is super quiet, but full of other guesthouses that are likely 2-3x the price of this place. Check-in was easy, the three-person room slept three adults. Shower and kitchen are included, both of which get the job done. Walls may be a little thin (the doors def...

The guest house is walking distance from Kyoto Station and so makes for a very convenient base for making day trips by bus or train within and beyond Kyoto city. We stayed 4 nights at Guesthouse Sendo and really enjoyed it! The staff was really friendly and helpful. There are 2 shared showers available and a well-equiped kitchen. Even breakfast is include...

A 5 star backpackers hotel which me and my family really enjoyed. Great room, big enough for 3 adults +, shower and wash up facilities modern and clean with fantastic water pressure, washing machine and drier on site and a cafe on the ground floor. Subway entrance 100 metres away. The host...Marcus ?....was really helpful. Walking distance to Nino Castle and in additi...

I understand why some people have been a little negative about this place - we too have stayed in places where the kitchen was cleaner than it is here. We found the shower room and toilet to be perfectly clean though and I am sure that Mrs Tani does her best. It is a bit of a walk to the station but it only takes 15 minutes if you are fit and we didn't mind it. There i...

We stay there for 1 night but spend time 2 full days at Kyoto. The location is not in a hot spot but it's still easy to go there and not located in a hidden area, you may walk from Kyoto station around 15 min but mot recommended for whom may have a heavy baggage or many stuffs. Better take the bus no.50 only 5 min to Nishinotoin-Shoumen bus stop then walk around 1 ...

I cannot recommend this enough. It was an absolutely amazing price for what we got and such a lovely experience overall. Our travel party was just two- my dad and myself. If you have more than 3 people or if you are someone who needs their open spaces, this is not for you). The owner and her family were so nice and incredibly helpful. They indulged speaking with me wi...

This little gem of a house right in the middle of historic Higashiyama was truly an amazing find. I wondered why it had so little reviews and now I know it’s because once the secret gets out people will have difficulty booking it again. The location is unbelievable the Famous Yasaka pagoda is right outside on your door step down the block is Ninen-Zaka and Sannen-Zak...
Traveler impressions of Kyoto
Great place to visit, lots of old/historical sites to see, mixture of modern shopping and relaxing areas.
I loveeeee Kyoto! Kyoto has impressed me so sooo much, this city has been one of my dream destination since The memory of Geisha movie.
many streets.morning and nights have its special.walking all is not enough.many things to buy at the Big Camera.
Kyoto is a fun city with a lot of attractions. It's easy to get around but I wouldn't recommend more than 3 days as there are a LOT of shrines and temples.
it is such a cosy, cultural, accessible and friendly city! it sounds royal and big but really a perfect sized destination for a 4-5 nights stay!
Beautiful city, culturally magnificent, easy to get around, transportation excellent and very clean! Food is reasonably priced if you know where you to go to eat.
Kyoto has many well-preserved historic places of interest. It is the main place to see all things unique to Japan.
If you are a sporty type, just skip the crowded bus system entirely and rent a good bike! I've done Kyoto by bike 5 times now and as long as it ain't raining, bike is the WAY to go!
i cant think of any reason not going to kyoto in a lifetime. i visited to kyoto during the red leafs high season.
Kyoto has lots of culture and sightseeing places. Good variety of restaurants. Bus system is easy to use and to get around town.
my husband and i really enjoyed kyoto. alot to see, many temples, shrines. shopping is amazing. you never have to leave the kyoto station.
The temples is beautiful & attractive. However, the season (begining Nov)I went the leaves still not turn to red color a bit disappoint.
We spent two nights and one whole day. We visited the Arashiyama bamboo forest, the Romantic Scenic Railway and Sanjusangen-do.
Will come back again, wearing kimono leisure walk along the streets its really enjoy, recommended !!!
A combined bus and subway pass is a great way to get around Kyoto. There a a number of great temples, castles, etc for sightseeing.
Kyoto is an ancient city that last for more than a thousand year, thus it has a lot of old, historical places, and also temples.
If you are a culture buff, this is the place for you. I love how they try to preserve their culture.
Kyoto is a must to see in Japan, plenty of amazing temples, spectacular gardens, very vibrant city. In my opinion the gloden Kinkakuji pavilion in northen part of the city is the best what tourist can see in Kyoto.
make sure to stop by at the shopping streets near Gion. there is a lot of fine quality tea shops along the area
There is so much to see in and around Kyoto. We stayed three days, but would definitely return and stay longer.
It's really nice to visit the different temples, the famous bridge, food is absolutely amazing! I highly recommend to go to Osaka too!
Kyoto is the quintessential "old Japan." Go and don't stay for less than two nights. For nightlife, people who don't want to go to Snack/Pub hostess bars or the few nightclubs near Kiyamachi go to Osaka instead, but everything is great here: history, culture, architecture, nature!
A big city with a lot of trains underground.. It is helpful to have some one who knows Japanese if you want to take trains or buses.
Love this small little town that is full of historical. If you love culture, this is a town for you.
Google map is very helpful, it will recommend you how to take a bus / MTR and the roads are not complicated to find.
We need some special information about Kyoto to enjoy eating and shopping. Ask them to a driver of Hotel coach! You might get a nice one.
Kyoto is very clean and safe. It is easy to get around. There is a lot to see and do especially if you are into culture and or religion.
Kyoto is a unique mix of heritage, culture and yet modern at the same time. Plenty of things to do, little alleys to wander around.
Kyoto gives us a glimpse of the traditional Japanese, the food, the numerous shrines and temples and even the old buildings.
Amazing Kyoto. We visited Nijo Castle, Kinkakuji Temple, Silver Pavilion, Gion area. Very impressive.
