            I love this place!”

Friendly helpful owner-good location-super clean and neat guesthouse

I spent the first night of 2016 at Yamashita_ya and I had great impression of this guest house. Sato san, the guest house owner was super friendly and helpful. She dropped me at the Gokayama Ainokura Gassho-style village by her car so I can spent an hour there while waiting for the bus to Shirakawago. Because of New Year Day, many restaurants closed and once again she offered to take me and another guest to a nice restaurant near by and we could walk back after dinner ( and not forgot to lend us a flash light). I was more suprised when she came to pick us up as she thought we would have been frozen walking back to the guesthouse at night!!! The guesthouse was neat and clean, super clean I can tell!. It's about 13km from Shirakawa go and buses run very an hour and a half so it's quite a convinient location. I had traditional new year breakfast that Sato san made. It was so delicious. So 10/10 if you ask me about Yamashita-ya !

If you are looking for a nice and affordable place to take a rest during the trip ofGassho-style houses admiration, I definitely recommend you to take YAMASHITA-YA into consideration. We spend a day in Kanazawa then went straight to YAMASHITA-YA. At that night, we went to Kuroba Onsen nearby and had a very wonderful hot spring and meal experience. Next day, we drove to 3 Gassho-style houses: Ainokura(10~15 minutes), Suganuma (5~10 minutes), and Shirakawa-go (30~40 minutes). From small to big Gassho-style house, we embrance the natural beauty of Japan.

Yamashita-ya located in a beautiful quiet town with a nice hot spring, the host are very nice and passionately thinking for the guests, they'd like to provide efforts to make guest's best convenience, you feel like stay in a friend's place rather than a business unit. 五箇山is not a hot spot to stay overnight for tourists but you won't regret to spend a night here.

Booked a private room for 3 adults, room is clean, spacious and comfortable. Bath house located nearby with short drive. Those who drive, DO NOT trust the navi with guesthouse's phone number. It took us to another side of town (end up with 2-hour drive, instead of 40-minute from Toyama). However, its location I super convenient to those heritage sites.

This is small typical Japanese style wooden house. The owner is kind to drive us to near by restaurant for dinner and pick us back. We can here sound from corridor in the dorm room but quiet at night. The hostel is just 100m from bus stop, We visited Ainokura, Gunamura and Shirakawa go during our trip by using tourist passes.

            We will definitely be back!”

Nicest host we ever met, clean and cosy and the surrounding of the hotel is marvelous

Hotel is very nice and clean. What makes it greater than the others is the host. 1st.During our stay, We decided cycle to the nearest tourist attraction about 20mins away. It started to rain when we wanted to get back. While we are cracking our head how to get back as we have to catch a bus, to our suprise, the host drove over and come to pick us up. We are so touched with such nice host. 2nd is when we are waiting at the wrong bus stop that is few hundred metres away from the hotel, the host purposely walk over and guide us to the correct bus stop and keep on making sure we took the right bus. 3rd is My wife left her belonging at the hotel and she is not aware of that. The host contacted us wanted to courier the stuff to our next destination. It's marvelous we could stay at the hotel and met such nice and kind host in our japan trip

            Very nice place to stay!”

Owner was very friendly and helpful. Even though it's guesthouse, room and toilet/shower facilities are cleaner than those in hotels. Very nice scenery around the place too, and very near to suganuma gassho-zukuri village which is much less crowded than shirakawago. Will stay again if we are visiting again!

We love love love this place. Beautiful setting, perfect host!”

This place was perfect for us. It's set on a beautiful winding road that leads around the villages which the local bus serves. It backs on to a stunning landscape of fields and mountains. And it seems the wonderful host's efforts don't go unnoticed. Like for others, she really couldn't have done any more for us. We came down on the bus from Kanazawa and she was there at the bus stop waiting to pick us up. She knew we wanted to tour the gassho villages so kindly dropped us off at the first one en route and had a map, bus timetable, and umbrella ready for us! She recommended us a great restaurant nearby where we had a very fun and memorable night with Mr. Shiro! In the morning she went out of her way to drop us at the bus stop, which she had helped to book for us the night before (I didn't know our return bus journey required reservation). Perfect hospitality, a warm and homely place, and such a thoughtful host. We would return in a heartbeat. Arigatou gozaimasu!

Value for money and clean home with great owner”

Highly recommend this facility to anyone who visits Shirakawa, owner suggest and help us book a nice restaurant that can accommodate 14 of us. there is nothing wrong with the facility, just set the expectation right as this is not any 4-5 stars hotel, but its a normal home with a great owner.

            Wonderful experience!”

I cannot say enough good things about Satoe-san! When we arrived at her guesthouse, she took us to a local festival that was one of the most wonderful and memorable experiences of our lives. Everyone in the town was so kind; they treated us like family even though we were strangers and spoke little Japanese. I will never forget that night. The next morning she also introduced us to the owner of a local sake brewery so we could have a tour. It was so kind of her to do all of these special things for us! The guesthouse itself is very pretty and traditional. Breakfast was good and the bathroom is new and modern. The town is very picturesque and a good landing spot to see Gakoyama.

            Excellent”

Location was good and very close to a World Heritage bus stop that takes you to the nearby villages. There weren't many restaurants around except for one which was a 10 minute walk and another was a short drive which the owner offered to drive us to and pick us up from. We stayed privately in a dorm and the beds/tatami mats were comfortable. We had 2 heaters but they seemed to switch off during the night and it got a bit cold. Bathroom/showers were good. Breakfast was great!
