Very convenient location”
For those who want to experience the traditional Japanese style home stay and with limited budget, Yululu would be the best choice. The bed and whole setting is comfy and cozy. The staff are very friendly. But the only limited is that it is not noise proof at night. Also, it has the best location, located at the city center, lots of coffee shops, gallery and boutiques around, only 5 minutes walk from the nearby subway and 15 minutes walk to Kiyamachi (night pub street). Will definitely choose here again when come to Kyoto.
Having such a wonderful experience living in the traditional Japanese guesthouse”
Amazing place to stay, I have such a wonderful experience chatting with the girls from Taiwan which having the period of working holiday currently. The environment of the guesthouse is absolutely gorgeous as I loved the nostalgic and vintage Japanese room design. I would definitely recommend other guest to choose this guesthouse if they stay in Kyoto for a short period of time.
Good location”
This was my first time in Kyoto - there for Gion Matsuri. Yululu is a basic guest house and was easy to find. Room had five (I think) cubicles with tatami and futon only. Very small but close to all I wanted to see and do. In a very traditional neibourhood (old style houses all around) but many little shops and also close to main shopping center. While it was very basic, I quite enjoyed it.
Cute + location ”
Great location, kind staff, and friendly atmosphere. I recommend for budget travelers and backpackers - no room or privacy for families. It really feels like staying in someone’s (Japanese) house, so there’s little space but lots of charm!
Tiny room with comfort”
We stayed in a double room which was very tiny. The futon for two people fitted the width of the room. However, it's a very comfortable futon. It was just like staying in a traditional Japanese house. There were only 1 shower room with a bath and 2 toilets for all but that didn't cause us any problem because each person had a different schedule. There was a kitchen where we could use. Quests could make tea and coffee from freshly grounded coffee beans any time. The staff was friendly. The location was good. We could explore the old Kyoto on foot.
Traditional Japanese house ”
The staff there were friendly and helpful. Great for a short stay. The guesthouse is just near Nishiki market. However there is no privacy as you have to share the bathroom with other guest.
A lovely tiny hostel good for short staying”
the hostel is very small, every single space is fully utilized. I have difficulty to find a space to sit at leaving room since there always someone sitting on there. that place only fit 3 persons maximum. Staff is very friendly and helpful. the room is small but enough to put my stuff and sleep. in summary, it is good experience to stay in a Japanese house
Great Lighting ”
The price was a bit much but the lighting in the room was what sold us on the place. Pretty good location even though the directions weren't very clear. Walking distance to Gion and it was a good walk to get there. Nearby shops and plenty of restaurants in the area. The shower business was a bit tricky because the whole house had to share one shower and only 2 bathrooms.
nice staff and a good experience staying here”
I stayed in this hostel for three nights and six people dorm is pretty comfortable to stay. Staff is very helpful and friendly, providing many good advice for backpackers to travel in kyoto. I definitely will consider to stay in this hostel again in coming future.
Excellent experience!”
Great for a short stay over a night or two. The experience of staying in a tatami-flooring room at this price is not easily available, but it's not for the fussy. My wife and I enjoyed the experience despite being a little apprehensive at first. Once we got to explore the area, we realised the location was really good. Family Mart was just 2 mins down the street, Nishiki Food Street just 5 mins further. The owner spoke fairly good English and we didn't have any communication issues at all.
cozy and saving accommodation to stay in kyoto”
I booked three nights in this backpackers inn. Location of this hostel is convenient, centrally located in kyoto's business area. Staying here is a pleasant experience within old fashion japanese wooden house. I definitely will stay here again.
OK”
Staff was very friendly and attentive to greet us and the bathroom was clean. However, the house is very old, so it always make noises when you walk or close the door. Nice experience for staying in Japanese house but one night is probably enough for me. Pillow is too flat and not comfy.
Very good”
not a super wonderful option but still great. it's a very traditional house, sleeping on tatami with paper door on the back. so nice experience but spend a week isn't the best. still good for 2 days
For the chilled traveller”
I arrived very late in the night and was surprised they let me stay without having given them any notice, but I was very grateful. The staff were humble and caring as they guided me through the guesthouse. The interior was very charming and not fussy at all. It was simple, clean and homely. I didn't really get to speak to many people as I only stayed for one night, checking in late and departing early, but the atmosphere was really warm and the interior had an earthy, uncommercial feel to it. It was chill and calm and I couldn't help but I feel relaxed. The interior and music selection in the social and reception area all added to the open feel and calmness. I would definitely return and regret not being able to stay longer. A great break for a backpacker that's always on the move.
Really nice place”
Very nice place and nice staff. Clean room and enough space for resting. Will recommend to my friends.
Very nice”
This hostel let me feel I'm in traditional japanese home. Staffs are also very kind. One thing that was lacking is there's some noise when walking.
AMAZING”
Good location, good host and amazing japanese style dormitory. Highly recommended to everyone who want to experience japan life : )
Exceptional”
though the place is small, but it's really nice and suitable for me who just looking for a place to sleep. thank you ^^
Authentic Machi-ya experience”
Great price too!
Hotel is very nice and local Japanese experience”
Very pleasent, relaxing environment. Only thing is there maybe line up for shared washroom, and only stairs so if you bring lots of luggage, may be a bit inconvenience
