My family enjoyed the stay in a Japanese house at a convenient location in Kyoto. Although the house is small, it has all the things needed inside.

great location”
Its kinda hard to review this room, the location is great, you can walk to many attractions and its in a quiet and elegant neighborhood. It's also clean, shower was nice and there is a kitchen as well. The room we stayed (for 3 guests) was big (in japanese standard), but I think they make too many rooms out of the house, its possible to be staying in super small rooms. We stayed in traditional japanese style house before so we knew its totally not sound proof, but because they split the house into too many rooms I feel like you hear everything even clearer. As everybody might have mentioned, there is only one shower room so we always came back before dinner to shower, before everyone else does. Lastly, the owner, an old sir, speaks some English but another old lady who cleans doesnt, it's pretty hard to communicate. Also the owner is actually kinda cold. We stayed for 5 nights and I found it less and less pleasant with him due to some misunderstandings. In all, great location, no service you can ask for (no laundry either, and the owner is really quite old so you can't ask him to carry luggage for you or so. In the 5 days of stay, the bin in our room wasn't cleaned), sounds like I complain a lot but it's still a place I would recommend, since the traditional houses can be very expensive, the size and the location of this house is already of pretty good value.

Not for everyone. ”
Not far from a subway station.. but not easy to find.. any way thanks to Google maps.. The room r more than simple.. mattress and air con.. that's all.. very thin walls.. so everybody hear everybody and everything.. not that much privacy.. everything is to share with the other guests.. the old guy running the house is very kind but his strict rules r not fun, the worst is to be back before midnight, so if u r a party type person.. avoid this place.

Don't go unless you are backpacker and get a great price!”
Supply of accommodations on the weekend was tight so I paid nearly $100/night. The walls are so thin, I could hear people in the other rooms rub their noses. If anyone else is staying there at the same time, don't be surprised to hear conversations until midnight and hair dryers at 6am. Unless you are made of tough stuff (and I lived in Kyoto for ten years), make sure you get at least two futons.

It is very near the subway and convenient to travel. Very clean comfortable room and very nice staff. Sound proof still need improvement and we need to queue for our turns to use the 2 bathrooms when returning to guesthouse at night.

Location is bit hard to find. But guesthouse owner, Mr. Imahori is very helpful, and keeps the guesthouse very clean.”
Value for money. Guesthouse is located at the small lane, and design in transitional Japanese style (with futon). Reachable via bus #5, 46, 81, 201, 202, 203 & 206, (Higashiyama Sanjo stop). It is 2 bus stops away from Gion, 3 bus stops away from Kiyomizu Temple.

Perfect Location to explore the best of Kyoto”
Location, Cleanliness, Staff
The location is perfect. I was able to do a walk from the hotel to most major sites, including Yazaka shrine, passing through the old streets before hitting Kiyomizu-dera. However, it is as what most have said. The walls are thin, the bath facilities are shared. The futon or whatever the thin cushion did not provide much comfort but nevertheless, it is what I have signed up for.

Just okay”
Location
I would say that I had a nice experience in staying at this guesthouse. Location is a little bit far from downtown although very near from the bus station to downtown (Kyoto station) and most attractions. We stayed at the annex, not the main house. Me and friend stayed there for four nights. Good thing the thin walls don't bother us at all (because we're fast sleepers) but yes you can hear the noise from neighboring rooms. They didn't tell us about some of the things that you can use - fridge, toaster, tea, coffee etc. Also, staffs don't speak English! Shower room is not enough - only one shower room for all the guests although that didn't bother us much as we take showers super late night like 11pm onwards. Only 3 toilets also- 1 female, 1 male, 1 mix. Toilet is very small just enough for your knees but if you are much taller you find it hard to fit comfortably inside. I find this a little expensive for their service, but overall, I think it's just okay.

A minimalist night in Kyoto”
Not much to say - the hotel is really minimalist and you get what they tell you.
The stay was fine but over-priced: the minimalist decor was as expected and no problem, but I discovered that there are other similar hotels in town charing half the price. Otherwise the host was friendly and though with minimal English he gave me great advice about a shrine to go see that evening that only opens once a year in the evening. The room was clean as were the separate bathroom and toilet.
