Located in a peaceful and quite area near Kiyomizu Temple, Guesthouse Soi is easy to access from Kyoto station to Gion. This is a family-run guest house by a Singapore-Japanese couple who devotes their time to ensure a pleasant stay for their guests.
The house is a mixture of traditional and efficient equipment. All rooms are equipped with all the amenities one needs. The garden is a great treat as well. Families and groups are welcome as guests have choices of dorm beds and private rooms. With the impeccable service, Guesthouse Soi is the perfect base from which to enjoy your stay in Kyoto.

Sim-san and family are so accommodating and welcoming every visitor warmly with their great hospitality skills and effort.Nevertheless they extend their warm hospitality to the guest as tho they are part of their extend family. They were always there to help and give tips on travelling in kyoto and give the best advices and places to visit in kyoto. Anyone wants a local perspective of Kyoto, this the place to be in and to immerse with them.
The receptionist/staff very helpful. She give us advice where to go first at Kyoto and find a cab for us because we are getting late to Osaka. You also can buy One day kyoto pass (600yen) at the guesthouse. The toilet very clean. But the nearest bus stop around 300m so you need to walk a bit. But its ok if you dont hv heavy luggage to carry around with. So i think its worth with the money. 👍🏻
We spent 3 nights and really felt like home. It was very comfort because the staff is very nice and helpful. Near the umamachi bus stop and lawson. The guesthouse is also have all services you need, like laundry, bus ticket pass, map, and bicycle. I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone.
Very good and comfort room. Near Kiyomizu-dera Temple. A bit far from train station.
Comfy Japanese tatami room!”
Try the Japanese breakfast (500 yen of time of posting)! Wish this guesthouse provided free slippers, and would've liked if the shower stalls were more divided/sectioned off so that when you change into clothes your feet can dry off naturally.
This guesthouse is in a very well located area to access many shrines and also for going out to dinner. The area is quiet which allows for a peaceful night sleep, but within a 15 minute walk you can access all of the restaurants in Gion. The room we stayed in was a typical Japanese style room where we were to make our own beds up. The shower and toilet areas were generally very clean and good. We did also make use of the breakfast on one day for 500 yen although it is quite basic and we preferred to eat out for breakfast instead. I would highly recommend staying at this guesthouse for easy access to kyoto city.
Still our favorite in Japan!”
It was our first time in Japan and our itinerary includes Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka. Still our favorite would be in Kyoto even if we stayed just for a night. We love our 'Ryokan'-inspired room. We literally have the small table, seat cushions, complete with a tea set. We have to push the table and cushions aside to make way for our futon beds. The futon is very comfortable as they provide double futons aside from the comforter. Bathroom, toilet and dining areas are shared Every thing is so clean! Bathroom is complete with soap, shampoo and conditioner. They also provide hair dryer and towels. In case you want to eat breakfast there, they can also prepare for only 500 Yen/ person. Wifi is also provided. The only downside would probably be the location. The closest bus stop is around 5-10 minutes walk away with downhill/uphill slope. We arrived to Kyoto from Tokyo via bus and we had to take a taxi cab to bring all our luggages. Overall, we still enjoyed our stay!
Homely, clean and cosy”
The cleanliness of the room, overall cosiness of the guest house, location which was a 15mins bus ride to Gion shopping and dining area and central location to most of the must-see temples/ shrines was what stood out about this highly recommended accommodation. Masato-san and Maki were very warm and informative host on how to get around the city and even helped booked popular restaurants for us! Thank you for making us feel at home during our stay!
Value for money good choice ”
This place is near by most tourism place. Very easy going around by bus. And 24 hrs LAWSON near by Too. Best choice for couple with budget . Inside basic things wz aircon and fan. Luckily have both. Very hot summer time in Kyoto. Share bath room with toilet very clean with shower gel and shampoo. Also have Landry facility 100 yen. If I'm not wrong. . Breakfast is nice. 300 yen for coffee and toast or plus some ham bacons fruits 500yen. They are selling one day bus tickets(500 yen Same as supermarket price ) as well. Very useful . Near by Guest house only bus access. To let you know after get off bus Need go up a lop about 5-10 mins walking distance to guesthouse. It's. Not easy with big heavy luggage. Owner is kind speak well English Chinese and Japanese. They give good suggestions going around.
Loved the place. ”
It was so clean, so nice, and the staff wonderful--the only complaint was that I was in a room facing the street and had a really hard time sleeping, which was a shame because the bed and the little cubicle were so nice!
Comfortable and lovely”
It's a guesthouse running by a Singaporean-Japanese family.I was really surprised that every staff can speak three languages(English,Japanese and Chinese) here, which will be very convenient to the guests all over the world. What's more, they are very friendly and sweet. They even will remind you the weather tomorrow and give suggestions to the schedule you made voluntarily. The time I spent here was really warm and lovely, and I will definitely recommend here to others.Thank you so much Guesthouse Soi!:)
I stayed here for 2 night. It's very nice to be here. The room is Japanese style, I really joyful for this tradition. This place can walk to bus station easily and nearby mini mart (Lawsan) Staff very lovely, they can speak my language as well (Thai). Breakfast is delicious. I am very impressive to be here.
Lovely little place”
Staff were friendly and helpful, whenever I popped back in. I came in late the and hardly spent much time enjoying the guest house there's so much to see in Kyoto. They had a white board of events which I would not have known about had they not written up. Also helped with dinner recommendations, how to get around and general conversation. I stayed in two different rooms and I was pleased with cleanliness and condition of rooms. The breakfast was good too and kept me fuelled as I went touring around the city. It's a little bit out of the way but I enjoyed the walk as coming back from Gion I could stop by Yasaka Shrine each night and just enjoy the lights without masses of people, there's a fair few temples nearby within walking distance so it's handy for that. I enjoyed my stay and would go back again.
Clean & tidy room, with very nice staffs”
I booked a japanese Loft triple with toilet & bathroom, it is new, clean & tidy, It is very good that the host couple can communicate with Cantoneses, Putonghua & English. They are very nice. Only a bit far from JR to the hotel, must take bus or taxi.
The location is good. Accessible by bus to Kyoto station, Gion district. Walking distance to Kiyomizudera temple. SG + Japanese couple owner. They are very helpful, friendly and nice. Toilet and bath room are clean! Great Japanese style breakfast. Highly recommended for stay in Kyoto!!
Recommended for ppl who like japanese syle room”
The guesthouse is runs by a Singaporean owner and his Japanese wife, hence all their staff are able to speak well in English and Mandarin. The guesthouse's location is very good, only 1 to 2 bus stop away from Kiyomizudera Temple and many others attraction as well. The guesthouse was build up with old building part and a newly renovated part, rooms in old building part got some smells, but it's not really a big deal if you like the traditional japanese style room. They also offer the bicycle rent at a very reasonable price, a great place which you can meet and make friend with other countries ppl.
Cosy inn with basic amenities”
Overall it was a good stay except the last night when there were 2 groups of youngsters who were chatting along the corridors late into the night. The noise insulation of the rooms are not that fantastic, thus it was really frustrating and I had to tell them off twice. Other than that, everything was wonderful. Location was fairly okay, we took cab everywhere since it was rather affordable as compared to Tokyo.
comfortable, acceptable location, not good food”
10~15 minutes walk from the bus stop. Nice and clean shared bathroom. Friendly staffs. Need to pay more for breakfast which is not worth. Expensive but the standard price of the hotel in the area is already expensive.
Better than staying in a hotel”
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The most important thing is they could speak many languages fluently and there was no problem in communication at all. Frankly speaking, we thought it was better than staying in a hotel. The room was very clean and well designed to cater the needs of foreign visitors while providing an authentic experience at the same time.
Sims Cosy lives up to its name”
Sims Cosy Guesthouse lives up to its name as it is really very cosy. Interior design and furniture arrangement are well planned, you dont feel squeezy/cramped despite the small floor area. Rooms and toilets are clean (toilets are a little small though). Owner (Singaporean who married a Japanese wife) speaks english and that helps a lot with our stay, directions and iternary planning. Owner and family members are all very friendly and helpful. Did not manage to try the meals but pricing seems reasonable and affordable. Rented bikes from Sims Cosy and it cost half of what it would have cost if rented from Kyoto Station.
