"We stayed at the Haadyao Bayview Resort & Spa for 5 days in September 2010. Overall it was a great place to unwind, right next to the lovely bay. The beach was ok, but there are better places on Koh Phangan (like the Haad Salad beach further north). Our room were very nice and clean, with cleaning of the room everyday. The only downside was the food. The breakfast was above average, and my eggs and baked beans were cold the first day. There is also not much other places to eat around, as the bay is pretty secluded. However a perfect place to just relax, and enjoy the beautiful pool they have, facing the water. It would be a perfect place, if they improve their food and reduced the staff and trained it properly."

"My girlfriend and I did a lot of research when trying to find a hotel for the northern part of Koh Phangan. We had to give some thought when deciding to stay in this hotel given all of the negative comments that have been left. So I am here to write something positive!!!!!  We thought Salid Buri and Haad Salad in general were really great. Yes Salad Buri is on a hill, but that creates amazing views across the little bay. No I wouldn't recommend this place to my 80 year old grandma, but assuming you can walk and are not extremely over weight - the hill is a steep 2 min walk which is nothing. We stayed in a pool villa, which was beautiful & so much more affordable than the rest of the island. They did delicious beach BBQs, breakfast was great. They had everything that we needed. We would highly recommend this hotel for other travelers."

"I had a very nice stay here for a month. I had one of the newer rooms in the back, that had much more light than the older bungalows and a beautiful view from the balcony overlooking the perfect sunsets on the ocean. Only downside is that it is quite the workout to get up to that room :) But I chose it anyways. Very nice staff and always helpful. I wasnt there much, since I was attending training everyday. But pool area seemed nice with view of ocean. When I compared prices with my friends staying at other locations, they had a small fridge and a cooker, so they could make a cup of tea/coffee for almost the same price. Since I stayed there a whole month, I would have liked that, and will choose that another time. There were a lot of construction behind my room (building more rooms I believe), that started very early in the morning everyday. Since I was up early anyways, it didnt bother me, but if you want to sleep in, be aware to book a room away from the construction.. But again, it was a beautiful stay and wouldn’t mind staying there again :) location was only a few minutes walk to the beach Haad Yao (which is one of my favourites on Koh Phangan). 7/11 close by and a few very nice restaurants also. All in all I can definitely recommend staying at JB Hut :)"

"I am Thai and I made it twice visit the hidden gem, I stayed 5 nights in a cozy tropical bungalow just 2 metre right to the beach of Haad Tian Beach. I spent apprx. 400 baht(15US) to get a beach front bungalow to be honest event I am thai but I could not find a valuable place like this. It’s a heaven stuff for thai people too. The resort provided very comfortable facilities such as free swimming pool, free Wifi in the common area, local produce restaurant where you can get a fresh ingredients and sea food from a fisherman village, private beach. The resort provides free pick up transfer from the pier following a traditional Thai gesture when you have a guest visit your house. The bungalow is cleaned and fresh in beautiful garden and provided hammock in the terrace in front of bungalow. The best thing, why i choose this place because a warmest welcome and Thai hospitality style provided to me, all staffs are thais (speak good English) where I feel very safe and comfortable as home away from home compare with other places, they employed Burmese staff and I feel uncomfortable and didn’t trust with their service. I am very much enjoy slow life here, being lazy in the pool, reading my book at the beach and great place to watch the sunset with a panoramic horizon view of Angthong Marine Park. Khun Daeng is resort management, he’s a fantastic guy who understand the services. He created an unforgettable experience for me for example, we went to morning market or night market together to buy fresh seafood then bring it back to resort for a unique friendly dining on the beach with the owner and management team. Someday, we did Bonfire with BBQ style and drinks together with staff here on the beach. What I found beyond a part of tourist is being a family and friendship of Haad Tian Beach Resort. The resort is a 10 minute walking distance from the main road and half way between Salad beach and Haad Yao Beach. its convenice if you want to go out."

"In our opinion, Haad Salad beach is the best beach on Koh Phangan which is why we keep coming back. This year the resort we usually stay at was fully booked so we checked Agoda, found Villa Cha Cha and we weren't disappointed. The GM, Tanner, was very accommodating and offered us an upgraded room at a very reasonable cost which we took and were very pleased with. I've only given four stars to "value for money", "location" and "facilities" because of the following. Value and facilities: The breakfast that was included in our room price was fantastic however, we did find the prices on the menu were quite expensive compared to other restaurants on the beach. Also, the steps from the resort down to the beach were crumbling. dangerous and difficult to navigate for children or anyone with mobility issues. Location: Probably not the fault of Villa Cha Cha, but the road to the little village from the resort was in disrepair and was overdue for some TLC."

"Stayed here a week, and I loved it. Haad Salad is a really nice beach, and the hotel is ideally positioned. A short ride east gets you to Chaloklam which is a jumping off point for taxi boats to some of the more remote beaches. Head south 5 minutes on a motorbike and you're at Haad Yao which is another excellent beach area. Haad Salad itself is quiet, but has quick access to a lot of the best of what Koh Phangan has to offer. The staff at Salad Hut was extremely helpful, friendly, and engaging...they're really super nice people working there. Rooms were cleaned in a highly efficient manner in the mornings. They seemed to know when I headed out to the restaurant for breakfast every day & the room was serviced by the time I headed back to the room after eating. Very nice. Room quality is quite good. Comfortable bed, nice lighting, flat screen TV with a good selection of satellite channels. Patio for my room had a large lounge table with Thai cushions, a hammock, and a small table with chairs. View from the patio was the pool, with the beach visible beyond the pool. Water pressure in the shower was sufficient & the hot water came on quickly. The restaurant is excellent in my opinion, with many options on the menu covering both western & Thai food. I noticed folks from neighboring hotels eating here often, and it's not hard to see why. Prices are very reasonable as well. I will definitely stay at this hotel again on my next trip. Two thumbs up for Salad Hut."

"I initially booked a three-day stay at Shiralea and within a few minutes of arriving, I knew I'd be staying much longer. The staff is super awesome, very friendly, down-to-earth, and legitimately interested in their guests. You can go to them with any question/concern and they'll help you out. The bar/restaurant is fantastic; it almost feels like a bamboo treehouse for adults. The food (especially the Thai food) is excellent and cheap; don't miss the pad se-ew and the tom sum (which comes with lots of grape tomatoes). The bungalows are big, clean, comfortable, well-sealed, have great bathrooms and hammocks, and are just what you need after a long day of sports/beach/partying/whatever. The swimming pool and massage hut (onsite) are also both great; treat yourself to a coconut oil massage, you won't regret it! There are a few drawbacks, but none of them are major. There are occasional contiki parties in the bar/restaurant (which go a bit late and make some noise); use earplugs when you sleep or just go join them! The WiFi doesn't always reach the bungalows, so just take your tablet/phone with you when you go to the restaurant for a meal or a drink. Shiralea is a bit far from Thongsala and very far from Haad Rin, but these can be good things. Haad Yao is a great beach with lots of resorts for eating and/or drinking. The location lets you explore the western and northern coasts of the island. Rent a motorbike from the house up the street and go to Koh Ma, Chaloklum, and Bottle Beach. Overall, the bungalows here cost a bit more than others on the island, but you absolutely get what you pay for. I loved my time here and would highly recommend it to any backpacker, solo or part of a group."

"It is the second time we have stayed at the Salad Beach Resort. We love the fact that the hotel is right in the middle Haad Salad. The staff were always willing to please and very pleasant. The resort is situated right near the top of the island but still very easy to explore the island from there on a rented bike or however you choose. They have a great pool situated in a beautiful tropical garden. Dinner is served right outside the diningroom and on the beach every night while watching the beautiful sunsets from there. We will be back soon!."

More about Haad Salad

Haad Salad’s white sand beach has palms for shade and a reef located 150 meters offshore that is a well-known dive site with an abundance of colorful tropical fish. Swimming is possible year-round, but best from November to April when the tides are higher.

Historically, this quiet beach acted as a meeting point for pirates to exchange their booty. Today, bungalows and resorts line the full length of the beach and the surrounding hills, but it is still one of the most peaceful parts of Koh Phangan.

Some hotels still cater to backpackers, with basic rooms equipped with hammocks and mosquito nets, but the newer resorts are more luxurious affairs. These resorts can help arrange fishing and kayaking trips, as well as bike and jeep rentals to make the rest of the island more accessible.

While there are several markets and internet cafes, the beach remains quiet, with a wide choice of accommodation and restaurant options. Visitors can also enjoy one of Thailand’s only sea view cooking schools here.
