The location and the beds are really nice but the bathrooms were very dirty (smelly, messy, used tampon in the shower basin ...), plus the wifi doesn't work properly (takes ages to charge a simple web page from the dorm). However it was nice from the receptionist to offer me a towel after mine had been stolen.
Best location ”
Good rooms, location . Toilets are clean . Staff is low on energy
Haka is Everything !”
They reply swiftly to Emails...BUT the reception person--wont lift a finger to assist us carry up the luggages/ or bring on check out day---Please change the room bulb--it is so dim ( Family room) Other Lodgers /Backpackers are so polite and clean---The whole place is very well-managed
hostel that respects ur privacy even in a shared dormitory”
each bed has it's own curtain that creates ur own "room" when u need it. a locker is provided for each bed big enough to put my 60L backpack and my carry on luggage. though shared shower and toilet, each cubicle in the toilet is equipped with its basin so u can wash up in the cubicle in the morning as though u have your own washroom. bed, toilet and shower is clean. location is convenient. hostel has its laundry room TV room kitchen and common lounge. wifi works fine. a little downside is that it gets noisy when other rooms bang their doors at night or that the night gets noisy on a Friday because of the bar opposite.
Clean and comfortable”
Haka Lodge Auckland is located right in the central of Auckland making the place close to everything. I stayed there for 3 nights and enjoyed my stay there. The staff does an excellent job on keeping this place clean and tidy, and they are all very helpful and friendly. The quad room I was in was clean and comfy plus the wooden bunk beds are super stable, so you really don’t need to worry about making noises while climbing up and down. The bunk bed has a curtain to provide privacy and a locker under the bed to keep your valuables. I would recommend this place to my friends if ever they are in town.
I came with group of 4 and the room is so spacious that we can hang out in the room and the heating warm enough for me to have a good sleep! Just that my room is located 2 or 3 storeys high and no lifts so it would be tiring if you are carrying heavy luggages.
The toilet and the bathroom is very clean. Slightly noisy at night but still able to sleep quite well. The common area and the kitchen and quite large, you can store food there. Location a slightly far from intercity bus stop if it is a sunny day or rainy day. Overall is quite good.
Kia Ora Tio, Thanks for the review. We are stoked you enjoyed your stay with us and love feedback. We hope we can accommodate you again sometime. Enjoy the rest of your travels. Many thanks, Danni, Assistant Manager
Worth your money and overall is recommended”
I stayed in Haka Lodge for one night, and it was a great stay! i’ll be back again here next week. It’s pretty cheap here and location is pretty close to central. You can walk to Countdown supermarket for ten minutes and walk to central for 20-30 minutes. Since Auckland is pretty laid back city, no need to rush to everywhere, so you can walk here. Pros: The lodge is pretty clean, clean bed sheet, clean room (smells like fresh clean clothes which is good), bathroom and toilet are clean. They have a nice movie room which you can borrow movies, and books, and they also have hair dryer and iron+its board. They have washing machine and dryer for NZ$3 each. The kitchen and common room are also nice. Very comfortable. And also nice for solo traveler or group. Cons: they don’t provide towel but it’s okay. While i was here, someone in my room took my freshly washed towel, but i finally found it again on top of someone else’s suitcase. Tips:Bring your own towel& toiletries.
Kia Ora Sandra, Thanks so much for taking the time to write us such a lovely and detailed review. We appreciate all feedback from guests and are thrilled you enjoyed your stay with us and booked again to come back. We love to accommodate you. Take care. Danni, Assistant Manager
Affordable for a location”
Location: it's in the "red-light" district. There are lots of bars and restaurants in the surroundings. Room: We booked 2 beds in a 12+ mixed dormitory. Most of the people in the rooms are males - provided we're 2 females. Even though, we were safe. People don't mind each other I think, people tend to go home late at night and still sleeping in the morning - so I didn't bother. There are electricity sockets and lamp to each bed. We were given key to the room. However, it's of no use. People don't lock the door of the room - it's 12+ bed dormitory anyway. The showers and toilets are clean. We didn't have to wait for our turn. There are always available units when we do our business. The kitchen/lounge: we didn't have the chance to use it. There are so many people gathering there. You will hear loud talking once you open the door. The wifi in that gathering room is limited. We were not able to connect to wifi when we entered that room. If you have rented car, it's difficult to find parking. You need to park beside the road. And you need to pay $1-$3 for an hour of parking. By the way, the dormitory rooms reside in the basement. The private rooms are in the higher floors I guess.
Dear Guest, Thank you so much for taking the time to write us this comprehensive review, we truly appreciate and value all the feedback we can get. We home to accommodate you again sometime in the future. Many thanks, Harry McAlpine, Assistant Manager
A great stay in the city centre”
The location is perfect for us. Parking is located at the back of the hostel for about NZD10 for 12 hours and the bus stop at the side. As a Muslim tourist, there are so many Halal options nearby too. So this place makes a great stay for tourist like me.
Loud noises as the room I was given was in front of the busy street with cars, restaurants and pubs.”
Room 19 faces the street and can get really noisy at night but they do provide ear plugs but I felt uncomfortable wearing them to sleep. Also, the bed I was given was a lone single bed while others were given a bunk bed with privacy curtains and luggage storage space. I wasn't given those two and had to deal with sleeping in the open and locking up my luggage each time I had to leave the room. Overall, the location was great as it is still in the city with very accessible public transportation and fantastic nightlife just along the same street. I would stay here again but would prefer a room that's located deeper in the building or at the basement level.
Love this hostel very much”
This is my first hostel for my 2-weeks vacation in NZ. The room is perfect, love the decoration and color of the room. Everything is clean even the share bathroom that we have. Our room also comes with a quite new TV which is great. Wifi is free in the room. Kitchen is clean. Good location, easy to get around the city. Really love our twin bed share bathroom in this hostel, strongly recommend it for traveler with not too tight budget.
Great Lodge in the city center”
The location is very city center where allow you to access other side of the city easily. This lodge is still very new. All the facilities (shower, toilet) are clean. The room is very clean and spacious. Staff are helpful. I enjoyed my stay here. Recommend for those looking for backpacker room or hostel.
Good location and great staff..”
Didn't know how I'd go staying in a backpackers place. I was pleasantly surprised. It was quiet at night and a great location. Just a 15 minute walk to the Sky Tower and CBD area. Bus stop right out front and lots of restaurants to choose from in the area. Wasn't much in the room, but it was just a place to sleep at night. I do recommend the place if you want a decent price and great location.

No car park as advertised”
When we start booking , we did choose one of the filter “car park”. That was why we choose you. But we felt shock once checking in and found that “NO” . You had to park at the roadside after 6 pm on your own risk if you could find it or not. Or you had to go for at least 15mins walk and again on your own risk. So did the other guest I talked to.
Good hostel dormitory type, But ”
I can say that Haka Lodge is so far better than other hostel dormitory that i have been, particularly the station backpacker. Haka Lodge is very clean, the toilet , shower room and kitchen. I stayed at the 20 bed dormitory and it was hudge and you can have a privacy , and the room was organized and others are well behaved, reception and customer service was great, very accomodating . BUT there is a pub/bar besides the place which is too noisy , i noticed this during my stayed on friday and saturday night which is i really struggled to sleep and it went on until around 2am, thank God that sunday the bar was closed. Still recommendable
In town for one of the p!nk concerts :) Great spot, right in town and a short walk from all the good places to be. Staff were awesome, friendly and helpful. Facilities great, comfy beds and no creaky bunks so pretty stoked about that. Clean, tidy and a good kitchen and social area too. Nice to see the backpacker library going strong :) Overall 5 stars, you barely hear what’s happening on K road and as an ex Aucklander I know how manic it can get. Would defo stay again. Thanks guys and gals!
Value for money”
Value for money
Super clean, super comfy, well located. There's a parking not too expensive close by. Definitely one if not the best hostel brand in NZ and Auckland.
Poor location and no lift”
Pros: clean Cons: no lift for luggage, far from the city central.
