Lovely Japanese-style Guest House”
Before I arrived the guest house I read that the guest house is far from the station and easier if by car. But surprisingly it's not that far. But a bit tired because there's a road to temple that uphill. The guesthouse is so lovely, Japanese-style with tatami room. The view from guest house is fantastic. I arrived earlier from check in time and I asked if I can leave my stuffs there, I can and the owner allowed me to use the shower room and rest for a while. He's very friendly and he can speak English. The shower room is very clean, there's ofuro also but closed. My room is 6 bed shared rooms, and I met new friends there. It was my first experience staying in Japanese-style room and Hakodateyama so comfortable and homy. We can use the refrigerator if we have drink and also the glass, plate, etc. if you're hungry the guest house sell some snacks and instant noodle also beer. If I visit Hakodate again someday, I will stay in this guesthouse again.

Best place to stay in Hakodate on a budget.”
I only stayed for 2 nights at Hakodate Guest House but easily could have stayed longer if I had more time. Beautiful location overlooking the city and bay plus right below Hakodateyama. Though it is out of the city, the tram station is less than 10 min walk away where you can be at Hakodate Station or market in a few minutes. Friendly staff, clean and organised hostel, including use of kitchen

Great place to feel Japan!”
Hakodate is a country town with friendly and nice people. We are family of 5 adults and 1 toddler, booked two rooms stayed two nights. The guesthouse is located behind the mountains and facing the sea, you can wake up enjoying the fresh air with nice view everyday. The house is spacious and comfortable, there are two floors and the bathroom is very big. You can enjoy varieties of drinks and food in the kitchen with just 100yen, and free coffee and tea all day long. You can also cook freely in the kitchen if you want. The house is beautiful, clean and the Japanese bed is very comfortable. I was very impressed by the lady host who is super friendly and she baked us cookies when we leave. She even gave my 1 year old toddler some snacks as gift. You can really feel Hakodate if you stay here. Will definitely stay here again when I visit Hakodate! Highly recommended!

Isolated but great location.”
I loved this guest house, it was right on the edge of the old town, so a 10 minute walk from the end of the streetcar line. But, it was in a nice, quiet area, tucked right up against the mountain and just a few blocks up from the sea.

Great location outside main tourist hub”
I enjoyed the spectacular view of the bay! The common area is spacious and great to talk to other guests. Good kitchen. Bicycles. Big Tatami room, quiet neighbourhood. Only 5 minutes walk to the public Onsen! The little journey uphill was not a problem at all. Very friendly and insightful staff made the stay a real pleasure.

Traditional Japanese futon was very comfy. share bathroom but very clean and can buy snacks & beer from host with cheap price. Only one thing that this accommodation is quite far from station, if have big luggage, recommended to go here by taxi from Hagodate station (not expensive)

Very good place to stay”
It's clean. It's even have the sakura tree plant in front of the house. Although it will require to climb up a long hill but the view is just too breath taking. After all, the staff is giving good service and have good understanding of simple English. Definitely go for second floor if you are solo travel. Room is fitting right for one person.

Great japanese guest house with nice view”
The Guest House is located in a hilly area, with beautiful night bay and city night view. Although initially we were uncertain of its location, once we got to know the way, we realized it actually not very far from the nearest StreetCar station. Overall we were happy to experience the Japanese guest house way of stay.

beautiful place”
the staff is very nice and the guesthouse is beautiful with antique decorations. but it is quite difficult to access. it would be great if the staff show some photos of the nearby enviroment to teach people how to get to the guesthouse.

Staff, view, relaxation ”
A pleasant stay in this out of the way corner of Hakodate. An older property, lots of room to spread out in our bedroom, and our four year old liked to roam in the garden. Nice to have access to some cooking facilities to make our own meals. Only one restaurant nearby (fantastic tempura!), and one basic supermarket, but the tram stop is quite close to go into town for more options. Staff had limited English, but were super nice. Onsen nearby if you're into that kind of bathing. Pleasant park nearby too, though the little zoo verged on depressing. View was fantastic, but the property is halfway up quite a steep hill to get this, so if you're tired, or have lots of luggage, or have little kids etc, I'd recommend taking a taxi the first trip there. There is signposting, but it might be easy to miss on the first-day blur.

Affordable stay and great view of the bay”
From the closest tram stop, the hostel was about 15 minutes walk up a pretty steep hill so if you have a lot or heavy luggage it would be better to get a taxi. However if you don't mind a bit of exercise, it was totally walkable. The hostel was very lovely and they decorated the common area with a lot of antiques stuff. They had free WIFI at the common area as well. The room was small but clean and comfortable and had a very lovely view of the bay. Be careful if you plan to stay longer in the city at night and check the schedule if you want to catch the last tram back. The staff was also very friendly and his English was very good.

Cute, comfortable place in a super cute town”
I stayed here for one night and wished I had have spent longer in Hakodate. The facilities are simple but everything you need is there, such as wifi, free tea and coffee, other food and drinks available to purchase cheaply, and body wash, shampoo and conditioner for bathing. Six of us were in a room with futons and bedding, and air con etc was good. There are lockers available too. Staff were very friendly and speak good English. It is up a hill though and especially at night, it is a bit difficult to find, but there are signs showing the way from the tram stop and in general in a good location, about 10 mins walk away.

Gorgeous traditional Japanese guesthouse. ”
It was wonderful. The location of the Guesthouse is a bit of a walk uphill from the end station of the tram, but offers a peaceful and quiet stay, and also a great view of the city. The traditional Japanese guesthouse is very nicely decorated and maintained. Friendly staff. Use of kitchen facilities with grocery store nearby.

great for me! no guests, no stuff: my own hostel!”
to reach the guesthouse you have to walk a bit upwards, but then: what a great view! the owner came only to explain me the place, the heating and the kitchen (with record player and lp, if you fell lonely...) if you look for night life and near restaurants, it's not the right place. if you look for silence in a special hostel: go for it! there are no restaurants near by but there is a wonderful onsen next to the hostel.
