The way of serving meals has been changed, felt a bit disappointed at first as they didn't serve meals in the room anyway more but still a good experience to dine at the restaurant

I’M IN LOVE WITH MIKAWAYA RYOKAN”
It’s everything I had hoped for and more! The bus takes you straight to the ryokan, there we were greeted and asked what time we would like our dinner and breakfast to be served. From there we walked through the beautiful landscape of trees changing leaves to our villa. My husband and I stayed in the Villa with a private onsen (hot spring). Worth all the money for the experience and privacy. Our villa made us feel like we went back in time or jumped into a museum but the basic amenities like bathrooms and ac/heaters were modern and super clean. The lovely lady that was taking care of us was thoughtful and attentive. I knew very little Japanese, just learned enough to communicate simply. She spoke very little English but through smiling and hand gestures, she informed us when and how things were going to be set up during our stay — dinner, breakfast, yukatas, onsen if it’s too hot there’s the cold water faucet to help cool the water and bed set-up after dinner. We would def stay again!

Beautiful!!”
We had an amazing time here. The meal was the best I had in my 1 month stay in Japan. It was varied beautiful and filling. Breakfast was also filling and tasty. We had an amazing room with a private outdoor hit spring and shower. The only issue we had was that the room we had smelled like old cigarette smoke when we did not leave the door open. Other han that the staff were amazing and I would go back again.

Cosy, traditional Japanese”
My boyfriend and I loved this traditional Japanese style onsen. We got a room with its' own little hot spring-fed tub on the porch and it was so relaxing. The water made me skin feel so soft and the temperature just melts away all stress. We stayed for one night, which was the perfect amount of time for us because we are both a little addicted to wifi and you do not get wifi in your rooms, only in the common area near reception. The staff was incredibly friendly and able to communicate with English speakers very well. We loved this gorgeous little onsen tucked away in the Hakone mountains.

Amazing Private Onsen”
My wife and I stayed in the Private Onsen room for two evenings. The onsen was amazing and the room itself was lovely. It was technically a smoking room, but we found that it had no smell. The public onsen is also very nice. I can't say enough about the dining experience. The dinners were the two best dining experiences we had ever had, seven courses of amazing. The breakfast was also very good, though we found the textures of the Japanese breakfast to be a bit difficult at this particular ryokan. It's a bit pricy, but I think it's absolutely worth the cost. I would recommend to someone looking for a really special evening or two.

Our first Ryokan ever in Japan. Service is good. Its just right beside the bustop. Food is amazing and excellent (Lunch and Dinner). The place is very quiet and peaceful. Room is well equipped with heater for cold weather to sleep in. The private outdoor bath is awesome and fits two of us nicely. Great place to go in a cold weather to enjoy!!!!! Hakone is great for Mt Fuji view”
Friendly staffs, great food, superb garden
This is my first Ryokan experience, and I have to say that I was amazed!!! Our room maid are superb. She is friendly, take good care of us, even taught us couple Japanese sentence as well. The food are great, I'm fully revived after a long day walking. However, it is a little bit hard to find this ryokan. They should update their instruction. Or if they have pickup service will be great. Overall, you MUST try this Ryokan, a true Japanese ryokan, with superb garden / sakura / japanese maple trees. Highly recommended!!!

what an experience!!!”
This was our first time in Japan and we wanted to experience it fully, that's why we wanted a Ryokan to spend a night. When you get in to Mikawaya Ryokan you're welcomed with green tea and moti, and don't stop to be amazed by every minute you stay there. From the onsen to wearing a yukata, to sleeping on a futon and all the amazing food experience at dinner and breakfast was nothing but perfect. Would love to do it again on our next trip to Japan.

Tradition and tranquility”
While they could have better instructions on their website as to how to get there (involves a 30 minute bus ride after the train), the ryokan was stunning. Great views, impeccable service, wonderful food (all Japanese and kaiseki format) and a wonderful top floor Onsen facility - one of the best we have been in. Surprisingly convenient to Laki Aishi and Mt Fuji. Limited English from some staff but that was part of the charm!

Nice and comfortable choice for experiencing traditional Japanese hotel.”
The Staffs are very friendly, polite and helpful. The dinner and breakfast prepared by the hotel are also very delicious. The location of the hotel is a bit far from the train station, but the buses are very convinient because the hotel is right besides the bus stop. The hot spring bath at the hotel is clean and nice. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone that wants to experience the traditional Japanese hotel and hot spring!

Absolutely beautiful”
This hotel is incredible! We were blown away from the moment we arrived at the hospitality and friendliness of the entire staff. We had a room with our own Onsen, so we didn't use the public baths, but we loved having our own private onsen! The shower was outdoors and very private, and I absolutely loved it. The food was really what sets this place apart- dinner was around 15 courses of absolutely beautifully prepared japanese specialties. Breakfast was something that my husband and I still talk about. I would absolutely come again if I were to visit Japan. Hints for travelers-- I recommend the Hakone Freepass which you can get at the Odawara Train station- there is an English speaking information center in the rail station- they can help guide you to a bus which will take you directly to the entrance to the Hotel, or you can do a combination of the Hakone Railway and bus or cab- I thought bus was much easier. The Freepass gives access to the ropeway, trains, buses and tourist boat

Staff was very accommodating and the meals were a wonderful culinary experience! Only downside was the private onsen in our room overflowed and water poured into the room which started to leak downstairs. Staff was extremely apologetic and helped us set up the Japanese style mats to sleep on in the connecting room. I would have hoped we would have been offered some sort of small refund or discount for only having half the room but it was not offered so we were a little let down. Other than the mishap, it was a great experience and a true peek into the traditional Japanese culture.

Great exprience”
Let me just say we are so glad we stayed here once, but won't be rushing back. The staff were amazing and friendly. We had a private in-room onsen which was incredible. We didn't have much of a view and it rained on the second day, but it was a fun experience with my husband. Unfortunately, the place was a bit musty/wet smelling but I guess you can't really avoid that given there's all this moisture everywhere all the time. The room was simple and fit our needs. The food was superb and gorgeous - the meals are eaten in a dining room but the seats were arranged so that it felt like you were in your own private bubble, very romantic. There were more courses to this meal than I have ever had at a single meal in my life - and everything was picture perfect. The staff also used this time to turn over the room (take out the sleeping mats or put them away). Other than the faint odor and lack of view I would say it was perfect.

Friendly base for exploring the city”
This is a lovely little Japanese-style guesthouse located one block from the Imperial Palace gardens and ideally located for buses around the city. The room we stayed in was lovely - traditional style, overlooking the garden. It was clean and had all we needed. Just bear in mind the toilets and shower facilities are shared, though we found them perfectly clean and never ran into anyone else. For the shower you just need to mention whether you prefer to use them in the morning or evening and confirm with the owner when they're available, but it was little hassle. We did not have food arranged during our stay, but note they do need 3 days notice if you wish to dine. The owner was very welcoming and spoke very good English, and he was very helpful in suggesting sights and places to visit and how to get around. Would love to stay there again!

Ryokan ”
Service, comfort and tranquility.
The extremely helpful staff were always attentive and made the stay a wonderful experience. From the moment the kaiseki breakfast was served to the "I could never finish this yet I did!" dinner, their enthusiasm is infectious. The Mikawaya Ryokan is located just around the corner from the Yunessun Onsen theme park. To get there, go on the H-line bus and get off at the Horai-en stop being high is just at the foot of the hotel lobby. The trip from Hakone-Yumoto station takes about 20 minutes.

Take the bus and get off at the front door”
Authentic building, friendly staff, great dining.
I didn't realise that a bus goes from the tozan line stations to the hotel front door, and ended up climbing the slope for half an hour with the suitcases, which was a pain. Most of the staff didn't speak any English, but they were friendly and eager to help, so it wasn't a big problem. We stayed in a room with individual hot spring. Unlike others I have been to it didn't have a strong smell, plus the temperature was adjustable (there was a cold water tab), so it was quite comfortable. The only problem was that the shower area was outdoor as well, so you might want to finish washing your hair in 30 seconds and rush into the hot spring.
