Lovely ryokan experience with great facilities and even better staff!”
Hakone Suimeisou was the perfect choice for us as it gave us the ryokan experience at an affordable price. Once we arrived at their doorstep, we were greeted by polite and amiable staff whose smiles made us feel at home. We drove to Hakone, and the staff made sure our car was parked away safely. On top of that, we also received a warm welcome by the front desk, and had a short but insightful conversation with them. Suimeisou’s hospitality extended to its staff who serviced the room (setting up meals and our futon). A big thank you to the lovely lady who brought us our dinner and breakfast, and the kind gentleman who made our futon for us. We had two amazing meals and the best sleep! The ryokan is also equipped with four (?) onsens that overlook lush greenery and a calming stream - perfect for an onsen healing experience. We certainly enjoyed ourselves! We’d totally recommend Suimeisou to anyone visiting Hakone - the hospitality and kindness are superb!

Comfortable and beautiful”
I stayed at Suimeisou hotel with 22 yrs/13yrs and 7 yrs old kids. Finding the hotel ( I was driving ) was little bit tricky since there was no ENGLISH Sign indicating that was the Suimeisou hotel. My nevigation put me in front of the hotel, and I there was an Japanese signboard only marking " Suimeiou" in front of the Ryokan. The hotel staffs were very kind and helpful, although not everyone in Hotel spoke English. Only few staff at the reception were able to communicate in English, but not a big deal. All staffs were helpful and kind. Our room were big enough to occupy 4 of us. The location were fantastic since there were train and bus station just in the corner of the hotel. The food was beautiful ! We had traditional Japanese Ryokan breakfast and diner. (But if you r not kind of person who enjoy foreign food, it can be challenging. For diner, I knew my 6 yrs old will not eat Japanese raw sushi and etc, I ordered Lunch set menu for Kid. ( rice, hamburger steak, and etc included ). Overall, I will recommended this hotel for family with small kids since the room is quite big ! ( Japanese hotel room is very very small...)Oh, and their out door ONSEN was just BEAUTIFUL !!!!!! You should try !!!

just Perfect! ”
When you go to Hakone, you will not regret staying in Suimeisou. Location is just a couple minutes walk from Hakone Yumoto stn. Which is the gate to enter Hakone. Along the walk, you can do shopping at local shops that lining up in both ways. Location is just perfect. Hotel was just superb. Very Japanese style, with tatami and futon bed. Spacious room with entravagant view to the flowing river. So clean, tidy and comfortable. I ordered with breakfast package and it was a very nice experience you cannot find elsewhere. Just regret that i dont order dinner for my stay as well. Tried the private hotbath as well..it is so nice. With a open view to nature. What i admire also one of the staff at front office. When i asked about sushi place, since his english is limited, he even walked us to the resto!! Not just direct us which way, but show us the way. It is def a plus. Very good, friendly and helpful staffs. Will stay there again for sure if i ever come back to Hakone.

Lovely Hotel with traditional Japanese room”
being called a hakone suimeisou hotel, i did not realised i booked a ryokan-style hotel with breakfast. the room is spacious fairly spacious, the room-maid will come in to set the futons for you to sleep, and will come in to keep it for you when they server the breakfast to your room. (it's quite early though between 7:30 - 8:00am). we only encountered 1 guy at the counter who speaks english though, but the rest of the stay i guess some sign language would suffice ... there are english instruction booklet and the room-maid will bring along an "english" card to assist in communication.. i was there in winter, and we booked a private onsen, the open-air winter chill and the hot bath is a great experience. the hotel it's only 5 mins walk from the hakone-yumoto station, most convenient thing for me is the tourist information center nearby where they speak good english and will be happy to help plan your hakone sight-seeing trip. from the hakone-yumoto station, you can reach gora and the cable car ropeways within 40mins ...

Great hotel with good service ”
This was my first time staying at a Ryokan and it was awesome! The staff are very friendly and helpful, though they speak little or no english. Overall, the hotel was very hospitable throughout our stay. My family spent most of our time in hakone just enjoying the hotel's facilities. We had our dinner and breakfast served in a private room so we didn't go out much. We would definitely return to Hakone Suimeisou Hotel the next time.

Great stay at this wonderful traditional hotel”
We stayed at Hakone Suimeiso in early December 2016. It was our second time to Hakone and we had fond memories of our last stay as we had stayed Hakone Yumoto Hotel and we enjoyed it. It is not difficult to find the hotel as it is about 5mins walk from the Hakone-Yumoto Station. The staff are very friendly and welcome you with traditional Japanese hospitality. We stayed at the Japanese-Style Room with Open-Air Bath. The rooms are beautiful with simple zen style decor. However, the tub in the balcony was one of the highlight of the stay. Overlooking the flowing river with waterfall and beautiful autumn leaves you will enjoy a relaxing time listening to the sound of the waterfall. The tub comes with piped hot spring water. If you prefer an outdoor onsen it is available on the top floor of the hotel. Dinner and breakfast was served in the private dining room on the same floor as our room and it was a wonderful spread of Japanese dining which even includes desert. The staff are very friendly and showed great hospitality. While eating your dinner the staff will lay down the futons in your room and while you are having breakfast they will keep them. The hotel is so close to the shops around Hakone-Yumoto station and here you can find souvenirs and many wonderful local delights such as dried plums, Hakone rusk, rice cracker and even a nice cafe to sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee and some cheese cake. You can purchase the Hakone Freepass which covers most of the transportation (train, bus, cable car, cruise) in the Hakone-Odawara area so that you can enjoy exploring the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hakone Suimeiso and it has further left a wonderful deep lasting memory of Hakone.

Very relaxing and enjoyable stay”
Suimeisou Hotel is a very short walk to Hakone station. Staff were very polite, welcoming and attentive. The rooms feature traditional style Japanese furnishings with tatami mats, low tables and futons. Included in the rooms were yukatas for guest use and private in-room onsens located on the balcony with views of the river and mountains - this was a major plus that we thoroughly enjoyed. The shower is also easily accessible from the balcony for ease of use. We opted for the breakfast option which was served to us in a private dining room opposite our hotel room. Food was delicious. Would definitely stay again.

Great ryokan with excellent service”
We stayed at Hakone Suimeisou for one night and we really enjoyed it. Our room was facing the canal so you can hear soothing sound of water stream throughout day and night. Food and service were great, Ms. Megumi was our host who's very hospitable and lovely. We also booked the private outdoor onsen for a small fee of 2000 yen for 50 mins. The onsen was lovely and we really enjoyed it. Overall we're very satisfied and would recommend Hakone Suimeisou for other travellers.

Exceptional”
I absolutely loved the Hakone Suimeisou hotel. Everyone who worked there was so kind and willing to help out with absolutely every question we had or didn't have. They gave us tips and provided us with freshly made tea and red bean paste buns. The personal hot spring bath on our balcony was incredible and we could have stayed in it for days. The women's bath I went to was also incredible with great views and so many amenities. I would definitely recommend and hope to come back.

Clean, comfortable Ryokan in Hakone”
Cons: None. By far one of the best I've stayed. Pros: - conveniently located near Hakone Yumoto station, literally right across the station. I did anticlockwise sightseeing in Hakone and back to Ryokan from lake ashi by bus (about 30min bus ride). Bus stop is like 3min walk to Ryokan. - located in the street/area where you can find tons of restaurants, souvenirs stores, 7-11, family mart etc. - fantastic meals (dinner and breakfast) prepared by Ryokan. - all staffs are extremely helpful and speak good English. - all rooms are facing the river and it's so relaxing to soak in the open air onsen and listen to the river. Thanks Hakone Suimeisou for your great hospitality and I'll be back. Highly recommended!!

Great ryokan centrally located in Hakone”
Chose this ryokan because it had a private open-air onsen on the balcony, which also gives a great river view. The staff was, unsurprisingly, exceptional, friendly and extremely accommodating: from the front desk and doorman to the lady who showed us to our room and served us our traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast (which were delicious btw, even if the dishes were quite foreign to us Americans), everyone was friendly and helpful despite their knowing little English. The meals were also exquisitely prepared and delicious even if we didn't know what we were eating some of the time. I fell in love with this onsen resort town of Hakone and would love to go back when I visit Japan again; and I will definitely stay at Hotel Suimeisou again. If you're going to splurge for lodgings in Japan, make it a ryokan that serves traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast, and I definitely recommend you to choose this one.

Convenient and cosy hotel”
I stayed two hotels in Hakone. Suimeisou is smaller than the another one. But their services remains standard. It's traditional hotel spring hotel. Most of the staff are quite old..(But that's is the point I admired)but they work hard and very nice. Though they are not young, but they can speak English well. Food of the hotel is good and I enjoyed my stay there

Nice, traditional Japanese inn with friendly staff”
I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. I was traveling with 2 friends and we shared a room on the river side of the hotel. The front desk was really friendly, and accepted my visa card, but spoke little English (unfortunately, none of spoke any Japanese). I made a reservation on agoda and was able to check in without a problem. We arrived before check in time, so stored our bags while we went to sight see. The hotel could be a little tricky to find if you are new to the area and didn't speak any Japanese; we found it w a gps. It is less than half a mile from the train station in Hakone and just off the main drag. From our hotel room onthe river side of the hotel, If we kept the window open, then we could hear the river. Otherwise, the noise wasn't too bad. Breakfast was a traditional Japanese inn breakfast, which I like. We did not order dinner to be included with our room. If you order either, the hotel will ask you what time you would like to eat (breakfast served at either 730 or 8:00 am). meals served in room. The hot spring bath I tried was a good temperature. There are several baths on the top floor, and some of them can be locked from the inside to make a private room. I believe all of them have skylights and windows, so are great in the daytime when there is a good view. Like other Japanese inns, the hotel staff will roll out and clean up your bed for you. I think all of the other guests during our stay were Japanese. I'd recommend for a stay in Hakone if you're looking for a clean, relaxing Japanese inn.

best location”
location: the best, walking distance will be less than 5 minutes from the station. i'd personally prefer something closer to the station when traveling to hakone knowing the weather could be quite challenging for normal overseas visitors. if it's during the snowing season, then you will be sorry for yourself if you chose the hotel located in the middle of mountain and you have to take multiple trains to get there. once you get there, you will know what i mean. restaurants: hakone is famous for relax, therefore, please don't expect any night life there at all !!! however, luckily my gf and i managed to locate one local japanese bbq places nearby this hotel (3~5 minus on foot). this shop closes at 11:30am to mid-night depending on the customers flow. therefore, you may ask around the front desk, and they should know which shop. in general, most restaurant will be closed no more than 8pm. thus, plan your dinner early !!! hotel breakfast: must have !!!! this is my third time to hakone, and i didn't expect the breakfast was a full blown one, and they tasted so delicious. unfortunately, the latest time slot is 8am. therefore, you will have to plan to wake up early. =p wifi: no no no !!! i've been using my 3g phone working as a hotspot to go internet to get my job done. =p

Exceptional”
Location is really great, just right across the street of Hakone Yumoto Station, it’s really easy to find and you can put your luggage in hotel first then travel to other attractions in Hakone. Staff are helpful and elegant grannies and grandpas, most can speak English. They provided us with great services like giving introduction to room facilities and preparing mattresses and breakfast etc.. Onsen is really great. We stayed in a large room with open air private onsen with a reasonable price. We came in winter so there was few tourists, so it was mostly just us using the public onsen. Yeah, we did try both the private and public ones. Breakfast was fancy, but probably the traditional Japanese food was not our type. But the food had great looks and was served beautifully. The whole thing was fancy enough to take a pic and upload to IG. Anyway this is a very great ryokan and definitely worth recommending.

Traditional Japanese Tatami Hotel with Onsen”
Clean and nice hotel, very conveniently located near the Hakone-Yumoto Train station. Essential bus services are also nearby. The Hakone-Yumoto Ekimae Shopping Street is just right in front. Staff are very friendly and helpful. English speaking staff were available. The Japanese-speaking Obasan who waited on us was very friendly and attempted to converse with us in bits of English, and guided us well on the yutaka, onsen, room and meal etiquette. And she tried explaining to us about the exquisite breakfast and dinner meal which were served in a private room across our room. Five-stars service from her. Very good experience of an ryokan styled hotel; table were set in the day and futon laid in the evening. The in-suite private onsen at the balcony overlooking into the hill was excellent and serene. Tried booking since May but apparently the hotel only make booking available in Agoda 2 months before our dates. However, when I checked their website, booking were available earlier.

The lobby almost turned us off. But once you come inside, it took our breath away”
The hotel located just besides the Hakone Yumoto Station. Very convenient for traveler to stay and explore Hakone area. In front of our “room” is a river view. Must be spectacular during autumn. Room is very huge with modern and tatami bed room. They provide dinner and breakfast at specific time in a private room. The food presentation is fantastic, they taste very delicious too. Staffs are super duper friendly. We felt like being home in this Ryokan. Facilities like private open air bath, public open air bath, public bath are open almost 24 hours. Room is very clean and spacious. Interior designer color is gorgeous. Very quiet place to sleep in. It was really a good Ryokan experience. My advice is that, they should renovate their lobby. It looks a bit old and smells like cigarette. I was almost disappointed after seeing the lobby. Oh they also do not have Japanese garden though.

Will book again if ever travelling to Hakone”
Couldn't ask for a better location: Hakone Suimesou is located directly next to the river, and a few minutes' walk from Hakone-Yumoto station. It was also exceptionally close to the bus station where buses departing for Motohakone-ko is, too, and made traveling everywhere extremely easy. Loved the view of the river and the mountains that our room and the open-air hotsprings provided. There are a few excellent cafes located close to the hotel that I highly urge for you to visit. Service from the hotel staff were nice; all good, elderly folk, if a little rigid and traditional in their views. The hotel also provided us with a small water bucket for setting off fireworks next to the river, so that was nice of them. Chartered hot spring wise we loved Shirasagi for the wooden tub. There were guests wearing swimming suits into the hot springs, but that's on the guests and not the hotel. :( Thank you for the complimentary towels and manju. Massage service is superb.

Pricy, but good stay”
We stayed here for 1 night. The price was $220 USD.The location is unbeatable. It literally is 2 minute walk from the Hakone Yamoto train station. Very easy to find! We stayed in one of the standard rooms. The room was clean, very nice Japanese feel. You will sleep on the tatami. Hotel staff comes around 7pm to make your bed for you. You have the ability to purchase private open air onsen at the facility. Book early before good time slots ran out. 50 min is 2000 Yen. Beware if you booked breakfast, you have 2 time slots to choose from 7:30 or 8am. They set up the breakfast in your room for you, very nice touch. They do need to access your room ~30min ahead of breakfast time for putting away the bed and setting up. This is mandatory! So don't plan on sleeping in. But then again, when you are that far away from home, you do want to seize all the time you have, why would you choose to sleep in anyways. The facility is clean, staffs are nice. I enjoyed this stay overall.

It was a lovely stay in this hotel. ”
We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel. Staffs are all elders, 50 years old above and they dont speak much English. This doesn't have any impact on the service they provide. In fact, they are extremely helpful and very willing to help. When I was looking for a nearest coin randarii (wash machine), they even drew a map for me. The hot springs was great. We had two nights private onsen and we all loved it. Breakfast was very nice and we all like Japanese food. The hotel is located opposite to Hakone Yumoto station, with access to all sightseeing in Hakone. I would highly recommend the 2 day pass even if you travel one way to/from Tokyo. There are some restaurants close to the hotel and we tried 3 of them, which were all great food.
