The hotel boasts a clean and cultural atmosphere, coupled with Onsen facilities, which was appreciated by guests. The staff is friendly and helpful, and guests can enjoy a relaxing atmosphere with beautiful forest scenery. The outdoor and indoor bathing areas are spacious, clean, and include a large Onsen with hot water. In addition, guests can enjoy the good value for money with inclusive buffet meals.

Communication issue with English at check-in/out caused inconvenience for non-Japanese speakers.

    “Interesting Hotel”

This was a difficult hotel to judge because some of the common areas are very nice and the room is mediocre at best. It’s a days inn room in a Hilton level spa. If you could spend all day in the onsen you would be very satisfied. Let’s start from the beginning as this is the first shoe free facility I have stayed in any country. You place your shoes in a keyed locker and are not given slippers to wear. You walk into the lobby and it’s filled with chaos. Lots of travel marketing materials and a large gift shop. Mediocre seating overlooking a beautiful back yard filled with water and coy and ducks and waterfalls. You can even pray in the back yard and take selfies and feed the fish in the ducks. You can use the normal rubber shoes they issue only to walk outside. After checking in you walk into an area with 2 bathrooms and 2 small elevators. The smell in that area is awful. It smells like a cross between my grandparents home and a nursing facility. You take the elevator or steps to your floor where they have pay coffee machines and pay massage chairs. They have a small refrigerator they dispense free low priced yogurt drinks and a small freezer filled with fruit bars. There are stands filled with pajamas for men and women while inside your rooms you could find the jackets and zippered bags to house your money room keys and cell phone. On the 6th and 7th floors are the best part of the hotel, the onsen baths with both indoor and outdoor baths steam and sauna. They are open 23 hours a day and close from 9 am to 10 am. Not sure why they don’t close it for cleaning at some time people wouldn’t use say 2-3 am. The worst part of the stay was the room. A ok size but we had a traditional Japanese room 2igh a cheap square table and 4 chairs for sitting on the ground. A small very old tv on a stand and a small window overlooking the street. Too small to enjoy the view. The empty floors and walls and the bedding inside of closets. A small room either low quality floors little or no wall hanging and bifold door with your toilet and no shower or bath. I guess this is why the onsen has extended hours to allow people a place to wash up. I being a stupid American thought it was my responsibility to set up my bedding for the night. I went ballistic and stormed downstairs to scare the young non English speaking manager saying this was the worst $250 a day room I ever had. He had no clue what I was saying to him as some overweight Russian lady walked directly in front of me and started asking him questions. I turned to her after watching her ignore me and yelled to her “did you notice I was there” “did your parents not teach you manners” The good thing is our $250 room cane with a large breakfast and dinner buffet. Lots of choices of traditional and some western dishes. The quality of the food was low end cruise ship food with some better choices like sashimi or Brie cheese or some ok desserts. Eating was the best experience as a majority of the hotel guests had their pajamas and kamonas on. You had to navigate through people wandering haphazardly pushing their way to consume fake shrimp tempura and cheap steak. It was quite entertaining and enjoyable to watch the halter shelter that Donald Trump would applaud. At the end of my journey I learned to appreciate the qualities of this old decently kept facility. It has a strange character as it was a cross between a econo lodge and a 1960s Hilton.

“Nice ryokan with good buffet dinner, breakfast and onsen ”

Room/ toilet Very clean. The room we stayed in was a traditional tatami with indoor onsen at balcony overlooking the garden. Onsen hot water you need to activate the top button near the door at balcony. Price Bit overpriced Service Good service at front desk check in and restaurant. Onsen Superb Onsen, they have 6th floor for women indoor and outdoor. 7th floor for men indoor and outdoor. Men outdoor has a jacuzzi onsen which y out can enjoy at night and watch the stars in the sky. I enjoyed with my son a lot. At level 5, there is free Yakult and popsicle one each per person. Food Amazing buffet dinner and breakfast. Dinner you have snow crab legs tempura. Breakfast salmon roe and mentaiko. Yummy. But I think if you gonna eat the food for one day is fine. Location Quite good, about slightly more than 1km from Yumoto train station, slight slope. If you have large Luggage would advise to take a cab from station to ryokan. Ryokan had own garden with two waterfalls. Also an outdoor foot bath. You can take some nice picture at the garden both during the day and night. Highly recommend.

    “It was good.”

Overall, it was great. Choosing the buffet plan was the right decision. Everything was delicious, and I ended up eating too much. The breakfast was also a buffet, and it was good. The staff were polite as well. There were many foreign guests, so there were quite a few foreign staff members too. They responded immediately in English to the foreign guests. I thought the room only had a shower, but it actually had a unit bath. It was surprisingly clean and comfortable. The large communal bath had different floors for men and women, so it was a bit awkward to share the elevator with others in my natural state after bathing. The large bath was easy to use, but there seemed to be some guests with poor manners, which was a bit concerning. The shower temperature control wasn't good, which was a minus. It seemed to be fine for the men, though. Since there were day-use guests too, I intentionally used it a bit later. Additionally, there was a service offering ice and Yakult for overnight guests, and the areas were somewhat divided. I think being a Manyo Club member is advantageous. The parking fee is waived until 11:30 after check-out, so I walked to Yumoto Station to do some shopping before heading home. It was really convenient and great. It was the best first trip to Hakone.

“Great hotel to feel real japan. A bit old”

Hotel is very good to understand Japanese Culture. The Onsen outside is super super. The hotel is clean, but a bit old. Food is fine, but lack some fresh fruits and vegtables.

    “Hidden gem in Hakone town”

I grabbed a deal last minute for this hotel and didn’t expect much. However, this hotel is so different to other hotels I stayed in Japan. To me, it is like emerging in Japanese culture while staying here. Good point: - The breakfast is so yummy, but if you want a good seat looking out of the windows with beautiful leaves, do make sure you arrive early when they open the buffet (around 7AM). Me myself was checking out the Onsen, and 8AM when I arrived, the restaurant is packed. - Some very interesting facilities (to a foreigner like me): the reclining chairs room (I always think if they can relax and watch movie/sleep in their hotel room, why they need to go to the “Reclining chair room” to do all that. - The Onsen here has a very nice outdoor bath. I went in the autumn, when I arrived at the bath, I was looking at the forest full of red and yellow leaves while soaking in the hot water. It was so zen. - Outside of this hotel there is a part that the river runs pass by. Make sure to check it out, you can take nice pictures with your Yukata and the scenery. Points to considered: - The hotel is quite a walk a bit up-hill (15 mins) from the station, so if you have big luggages, arrive a bit early so you can enjoy the scenery (not when it’s super dark like me). - Check-out before 10AM, before 10AM it is super crowded, you can still keep your key and stay in the room. At 10AM you can put your key in a box at the reception, no need to be in line to wait to check out. - Check-in process is quite long, so if you arrive around 5pm-6pm like me (when most visitors arrive), you will have to wait quite a bit
