Good in room environment ”

I booked this room cause of the in-room private onsen. the actual onsen look like what the photos shown. traditional japanese style room with tatami and the bathroom is awesome, just like a mini public onsen bathroom, you can bath prior jump into the private onsen right next to the bathing area. And it is private, you can enjoy it with you hubby or lover. the environment is so cool. also the location of the hotel is good, just 10mins walk to train station back to Tokyo and few mins walk to convenience store. I like it very much but only quite expensive to spend a night here.

Very good”

It’s about 8-10 min walk from station and the first staff at check in is a very stern old man. Not super friendly but you only see him at check in and check out. No elevators so have to drag our luggage’s up the stairs with their slippery slippers that I always feel like will slide off my feet when I walk down the stairs. Food is good, served by a lady that arrives 20 mins early to set up the table every time. They refill the water in the kettles and give you fresh towels and robes but they don’t do any room cleaning service during the stay. The room with the private onsen was great but not exactly mountain view unless you dip yourself all the way into the water and can only see the sky. Otherwise you can see the next doors house while standing up

Outfit under construction”

It's a quite old house, so it really depends on if you like old house or not. Outfit was under construction, so we weren't able to see the beauty of it. The outdoor hot soup is not that big, but the personal soup is quite big. Staffs are nice and friendly but don't speak much English.

Nice food, nice ambience”

Walking distance from Hakone Yumoto main station.Nice food served ( Kaiseki style) for dinner ( by 6pm) and breakfast ( 8 am). Check-in and Check-out was breeze. Would be better if the staffs can converse in basic English as it was hard to communicate but staff attending was nice and tried to be as helpful as possible.Timing for the usage of the public onsen can be a little confusing, would be helpful if a clearer instructions were provided during check in time. Interior was a bit dated but it adds to the charm.Overall a comfortable stay.

Very good”

What was good: 1) Private Onsen attached to room is awesome! (Note that the shower is also outside your room with the Onsen so be prepared to be cold if you just want a shower) 2) kind staff (but if you don’t speak Japanese, I think you will struggle) 3) On time meals and Bedding placement/tidy up 4) the meals were impressive IF you like traditional Japanese food. If you don’t, then this is not a suitable place to stay What didn’t work/was tricky 1) The free bus from the station only works if you have minimal luggage, there is no luggage storage on it so walk if you have more than a tiny suitcase. It’s not a hard walk. 2) it’s hard to relax on the tatami chairs they provide .. the futons get put away each morning so you can’t ‘read in bed’ like you would in a hotel 3) there is no lift and you have to carry your own luggage up slippery wooden stairs in your socks or slippers. This isn’t a piece of cake if you have even medium sized luggage 4) you need to be okay with interruptions .. they are constantly popping in and out for various things Overall, I’m glad I tried the experience but I probably won’t do it again. It’s easier I think to stay in a modern hotel and just day-visit an Onsen

Fantastic Experience!”

Although we spent more money than we normally do on accommodation, the experience was so unique it was worth it! The building is historic--it looked and felt far more like a traditional ryokan than many of the other more hotel-like buildings we saw in Hakone. And it was absolutely lovely! With the exception of one small strip of worn carpet in a common area (that could easily be replaced), the ryokan was scrupulously clean, the staff was extremely kind and helpful, our room was enormous and comfortable, the food was delicious and plentiful (and served by a very sweet woman who made a concerted effort to explain what we were eating in our room), the private onsen (indoor baths) and public same-sex rotemburo (outdoor bath) were wonderful and the location of this ryokan could not be better. We took the shuttle for 100 yen from the train station just so we could find it easily, but after that we walked to and from the ryokan to the center of town because it only took five minutes to do so. As with most hotels/ryokans in Japan, there are tons of amenities: pajamas, yukata, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothbrush & toothpaste, razor, facial cleanser, facial moisturizer, body lotion, etc. etc. So although there is ample space for luggage, one can really pack minimally and still have everything one needs upon arrival. I was very happy that we chose to stay in Hakoneyumoto Onsen Yaeikan and would recommend it unequivocally to anyone wanting a real ryokan/onsen experience.

Highly recommend for a traditional ryokan experience! Photos don’t do it justice.”

We booked two of the private onsen rooms - one for my parents and one for my husband and I - since we weren’t sure we could brave the public onsen. We can’t rave enough about this place. Great traditional ryokan experience, amazing dinner and breakfast, relaxing onsens, the sweetest staff, and conveniently close to the Hakone Yumoto station. Each room’s layout was completely different and uniquely beautiful. The photos really don’t do it justice. Unfortunately since the lighting is dim on purpose, I couldn’t even capture any good photos or videos. We felt like each of our hotel rooms was a whole house with all of the space. Our rooms were made up of several separate spaces - a living room with a table/4 chairs and balcony, a separate bedroom, closet, toilet room, vanity/sink room, partially outdoor onsen bath and separate shower... we were thrilled! The food... OMG! Just amazing. Rounds and rounds of courses for both the dinner and breakfast. Everything was so thoughtfully and intentionally created, and although tiny at first, we all got so stuffed we couldn’t finish everything. And my husband and dad eat a ton... We ended up checking out all of the public onsens - there were 2 pubic onsen rooms, each with two onsens, and also a public one that you can reserve for private use. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and could visibly see the difference in our skin and facial complexion after just a 15 min soak. The staff were also so kind and allowed us to check our luggage before check-in as well as after check-out. Our server NaiZuKi (sp?) was incredibly sweet and kind - she made our stay even better! She spoke English, Chinese and Japanese! I had read in some past reviews about the staff not speaking anything but Japanese, but we didn’t find that was the case at all. It’s a super close walk to the Hakone Yumoto station, which seems kind of far from all of the other Hakone points of interest like Lake Ashi, etc. but it’s honestly all pretty easy to get to if you g

Lovely Traditional Ryokan!”

Stayed at the Yaeikan last week for one night after a full day tour to Mt Fuji, Lake Ashi, and Hakone. Really loved to true Japanese hospitality! The moment we stepped in the main entrance there were about 4-5 ladies in traditional kimonos waiting for us at the main hall. Check process was quick and the staff assigned to us led us to our room, explaining all the various facilities along the way. Our room was spacious with a separate dining room and bedroom, and an ensuite onsen with a mountain view! Quite a luxury! Everything was clean and tidy, although some parts look like time had taken its toll - but everything was working fine. Although the overall design and fittings were very traditional, the owner had cleverly built in rather modern amenities into the fittings, e.g. airconditioning, LCD TV, etc. The staff serving us looked after our meals well and served us like royalty in the comfort of our room - although she could only speak limited English. Will come back!

Great place”

Really enjoyed our stay, the staff was very friendly and took great care of us. The food was excellent and the private onsen in our room, hibari, was very nice and had a great view of the mountains. 5 min walk from hakoneyumoto station, great location.

Great first ryokan with onsen experience! ”

Yaeikan is an economical ryokan to stay at & not break the bank to experience a traditional Japanese inn. It's an easy 7 minutes walk from Hakone-Yumoto station. We stayed in the Asuka room for one night. It is on the highest floor (we requested) facing the front street & is big enough for a couple with our own private toilet & separate sinks. We definitely got an upgrade because I did not book such a room. The staff was super friendly & polite. Our room server, Junko, was a joy to meet! The traditional 12 course dinner & breakfast were delicious! We enjoyed the hot tea, sleeping kimonos, & appreciated the staff setting up/putting away our beds. The baths are small with clean hot spring water. There is a public men & women bath that switches during different times so you can experience both (one is outside). They also have a private bath for small families & a private outside bath for couples. They held our luggage when we arrived earlier & left later than the check in/out time!

Amazing traditional Japanese experience”

My boyfriend and I wanted to try an onsen and I spent hours trying to find a place close to Tokyo, authentic, with great quality. Yaeikan exceeded our expectations. We've talked about going back every year. Would 100% recommend
