A Lovely Little Boutique Hotel for a Perfect Getaway”
Handagedare is a lovingly appointed and beautifully maintained little family hotel. The rooms and grounds show a very nice attention to detail and staff are very attentive. It’s very relaxing to sit on the balcony overlooking the pool or to take a refreshing dip. Two beaches are within walking distance; the main beach with it’s many bars and restaurant is less than a five minute walk and the more secluded secret beach can be reached in 20 minutes on foot. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be sure to return. There is some room for improvement, but none of these very minor issues had any negative impact on our stay. These are simply suggestions on how to make an already wonderful experience even better. There is a little bit of a drain smell in the bathroom, which is a common problem in Sri Lanka. A small clay burner or a stick diffuser with essential oil such as lemongrass, cinnamon or sandalwood might help. A small burner with a mosquito coil would also be helpful.
We loved our stay here - beautiful rooms, and service from the lovely family. Buffet breakfast every morning with Sri Lankan and traditional foods as well as normal breakfast items. Very close to the main beach, and a short walk to secret beach/harbour for whale watching. Great facilities would recommend 10/10!
This hotel is in a perfect location to get to raj and the whales. Rooms are clean and have a comfortable bed. Breakfast has various options. I would request a first floor room rather than at pool level. Pool was nice for a cool off dip.
very good hotel”
we stayed here for 3 nights. its very close to secret beach and 5 min from mirisa beach, so very good location. the pool and the room very clean and the staff is so nice. we acctualy did here laundry and it was very clean. i recomended it a lot.
Staff were absolutely amazing - thank you especially to Priyanga! I came for one night, stayed for 3, so that kind of says it all. Great location - away from the noise of the beach, but a 5 minute walk and you’ll have your toes in the water. Also booked the whale watching tour through the front desk - Raja and the Whales was the best! Definitely recommend.
The family room was decoratively pretty with lace curtains around the beds and shaped towels on the master bed. The bathroom has bathtub and separate sinks are available outside for other members of the group to use. The room is clean, cozy, and spacious. Since we had to leave early around 6:15 in the morning for Whale watching, the staff prepared for us breakfast to bring along. The balcony overlooks the swimming pool and has chairs for relaxing. The location is just few minutes away from the beach and from the whale watching port.
Hospitality with a capital H”
Rooms rather small, coffee and tea facilities without coffee. Friendly staff; they do the utmost to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Good breakfast. Mirissa beach just a short walk. On the beach numerous bars/restaurants. We enjoyed our stay very much.
Mirissa Beach is Beautiful!”
I enjoyed this hotel. I booked it because it had a bunk bed for my kids. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. It had a huge bathtub. It was fairly close to the beach. We didn't get to try the breakfast because we went whale watching that morning. Our room had a patio and the pool looked nice. The owners were lovely!
A lovely resort with very friendly staff!”
The Handagedara is a good place to stay in Mirissa. Nice clean rooms with lovely staff who can't do enough for you. Location is just a few minutes from the beach. Decent pool and a great buffet breakfast.
Homely & Warm touch to this beachfront B&B”
Priyanka was the owner of this B&B and she made us feel most at home. Her husband made us feel extremely welcome too- we actually asked to use the showers even after we had checked out as we were caught in a storm and he obliged willingly. The other kitchen staff were excellent too, distributing their kindness and warmth to everyone. The beds were cosy and comfortable, and rooms were sufficiently clean. Only minor gripe is that the blanket could use a quilt within, but that wasn't much of an issue. Would love to return to Priyanka's little resort again.
We Regret Having Only One Night at Handagedara”
During our vacation through Sri Lanka, we opted for one night in Mirissa and Handagedara Resort, as we stopped in the area to go whale-watching. Our previous hotels were fine, but lacking in some of the finer touches, but when we arrived here, we found ourselves at a first-class establishment, with the details taken care of with a professional touch. Greeted warmly by the hotel owner, we were taken to our awaiting room, which in the hot Sri Lanka climate was cooled for our arrival with the A/C. The room was tastefully decorated and while a bit noisy (due to construction of a swimming pool), it was a welcome respite. The beach is just a three minute walk away and Handagedara employs a standout cook-we had lunch and dinner and all four dishes we tried were among the best we had on our vacation, which is saying a lot in a place where every meal was enjoyable. The last thing to say-Handagedara was a great bargain, the cheapest place we stayed in Sri Lanka while the service, decor, and professionalism combined for the best quality on our trip (and we didn't have any bad experiences with hotels in the country).
One of the nicest hotel when in Sri Lanka”
When we book on the day before the stay we had include a message during booking that we will arrive real late and to help us book a whales tour the next day. We were really surprise they took note of it and help us book it. The staff and the lady boss were really great. They also make sure they have the best for their customer. Breakfast was superb too. About 5 mins walk to the beach, it will be great if the hotel is right on the beach.
Awesome and comfortable stay ”
Wonderful stay. The room is brand new and clean with hot shower ! Owner and staff is very helpful! We even become good friends after two days stay ! Breakfast is so nice which will make you full with energy before you heading out for the sun bath ! I will recommend to stay here if you want a quiet and comfortable stay
I was very pleased with my stay at the hotel. The owner did an excellent job to make the guests feel at home. When the owner found out that the organizor of a whale watching tour put me and another guest from the same hotel on the wrong boat, she helped us get full refund for the tour. They have a home cook who can cooks some pretty decent food as well.
Lovely Place with even Micer Family”
eveything about our stay was wonderful! the room is just as nice as the pictures on agoda. the women who runs this boutique hotel is great she really wants to do everything to ensure you have a great stay at her hotel. additionally, she wants to do anything she can to make her hotel the absolute best that it can be! for example, they just opened a few months ago and did not put ceiling fans in the breakfast area. however a guest stated they thought they would be a good idea, so they installed ceiling fans. a great place we really want to return to!
Lovely and homey hotel”
The resort is new, clean, and well-managed by the owner and staffs. It felt like home. The owner is very kind and gave us the best service. She made sure that we had the most comfortable stay. She also arranged our whale watching tour and also accompanied us to the beach (which is btw only 2 minutes walk from the resort). We highly recommend this hotel in Mirissa.
Warm owner ja beautiful place”
Handagedara resort was so beautiful that I thought that I never wanna leave it! Places owner and staff (family) was so kind, helpfull and warm that I have never before met anything like that! They organize kindly everything we asked: daytrip to Udawalawe, whale watching tour and when we had to go, they helped us on our trip from Mirissa to Katamnayke. Theres no bad word about Handagedara.
A bit expensive, 5min walk to the beach not the nearest but quite ok. Very close from the whale watching so we could sleep more before this activity. Room are newly renovated but we feel it wasn’t finished and totally clean. Toilet and shower are separated by a glass window from the room leaving no intimacy since it’s not covered. Window of the shower can’t be closed due to colonial house so the wet area stay very humid and smelly. Medium size of swimming pool good for kids.
Clean, cool and comfortable stay with very friendly staff.”
Very welcoming and friendly staff, always helpful and serving with a smile. The breakfasts and the one dinner we had were excellent. The pool was small but just right for cooling off. There could be more sun loungers and better laid out with the large concrete tables in the shade perhaps. The rooms were a good size with large and comfortable beds and a lovely balcony or terrace. The air con was very powerful and maybe a ceiling fan would have been better at night. The bathroom was also very small with the sink in the room. The location was perfect as it wasn't directly on the noisy beach but a 5min walk to it and 10min walk to the harbor. Overall an excellent value for money stay.
Modern and lovely hotel with wonderful staff and a delightful pool”
Friends who had stayed here recommended it and it was indeed excellent. Everything was clean, tidy and with a modern decor we liked. A few mins walk away are great restaurants right on the beach overlooking the end of the cove but the food at the Handagedara was terrific. (Try the butter fish with garlic butter sauce.) Lovely little gardenfor relaxing and a very welcome pool. Will recommend to others.
