Hangout @ Mt Emily stands on top of Emily Hill, just a few steps from Orchard Road, Bugis, and Little India. This chic budget boutique hotel offers easy access to the Little India MRT station which is just a seven-minute walk through the park. The property prides itself on being a chilled-out, fuss-free hotel. Situated away from the crowded and noisy areas of the city, the hotel is able to provide a peaceful and relaxing environment. The hotel, being a no-frills accommodation, provides only the basic amenities such as air conditioning, a water heater, dispensable hand soap, hair/body shampoo, and attached bathrooms.

Best budget option in Singapore”
I travelled to Singapore with my family in early June. As many people do, I found prices for hotels to be astronomical. It was especially hard to find a good rate for three people. I did not want to purchase two rooms, given that the price in Singapore for a decent mid-range hotel is about $150-200 bucks per room. Given the rest of Asia's wonderful budget boutique hotel options, I was beginning to lose hope of finding one in Singapore. When finally found Mt Emily, I could not be more pleased with what it offered. Like those budget hotels commonly found in Japan, Mt Emily provides all the basics, and cuts costs by asking guests to provide the rest (i.e. their own soap and shampoo products for the shower). The price (we payed $125 USD for a triple plus room) was an incredible value compared to the rest of the city. Part of the cheap cost may be its location -- it's perched on the top of a hill in between little India and Orchard Road, and its about a 10 minute walk to get to either -- but for those willing to sacrifice a minimal amount of convenience, this place is so worth it. Apart from cleanliness and good value, the staff here were absolutely helpful. I was so impressed with their friendly professionalism. I will be staying at Hangout whenever I come to Singapore in the future.
Exactly what we needed, at its best”
We stayed for a night at Hangout @ Mt. Emily on April 2016. The room was very clean, air conditioner worked well, shower was big and included soup and towels), the room had two large windows with great view. Every staff member we came across were friendly and informative. Staff at the front desk were highly trained and gave us excellent service. Location is in walking distance to shops and food court (though walking includes an outdoor long stair case which is not suitable for wheel chair or people with walking difficulties). Breakfast was better than we expected, and included bread and spreads, warmed beans and scrambled egg, cornflakes and milk, fresh fruit, cold and hot drinks. Common room was comfortable and clean, and included a few living areas- indoor and outdoor. toilets close by. free hot drink. We could leave our bags at the hotel storage room after check out, and we could even use hotel facilities after check out. Half an hour drive from the airport by taxi. Next time in Singapore- I will go to Hangout @ Mt. Emily again.
Very modern backpacker hostel & friendly service”
Our only night spent in Singapore while in transit on our way home was spent at Hangout @ Mt Emily. Located a short walk from the train station, Hangout is a very clean, modern and secure establishment. We were upgraded upon check-in due to a fault with the booking system, into a double room with a queen size bed and private bathroom. Our room was very clean and secure with the basic necessities which ensured a comfortable and quiet sleep. Wifi throughout was handy. Breakfast was a little disappointing, with limited variety and quantity. Well priced for it's convenient location and clean, modern facilities in what can be an expensive country for accomodation.
Great stay in an affordable accommodation”
In my recent trip to Singapore, I was looking for an affordable accommodation which subsequently brings me to Hangout@Mt Emily through Agoda. I was pleasantly pleased that I have booked my stay here as the room was very clean and the friendly services provided by the hotel staff. They even lend me an umbrella when I wanted to walk outside in the gloomy weather. The location is also considered OK as long as you don't mind walking for a bit. Else, you could always opt for a cab to reach to this place. I managed to go to Plaza Singapura which is about 15-20mins walk from here.
Best hostel I've stayed in yet!”
hangout @ mt emily is a great place to stay while visiting singapore. it is very clean and new. the quality is comparable to that of a nice hotel. the beds are actually comfortable, the bathrooms are very modern and clean and even though you are in a dormitory you feel that you have a sense of privacy. definitely recommend it!
Review from a now Loyal Customer”
Hey ! Hangout@Mount Emily where have you been on all my previous Singapore trip ?My stay started on a 12 midnight arrival but was still greeted by a smile and very hospitable lady front desk officer. Given all information and my white as a feather towel . I wrote an email regarding my late arrival on a rerouted trip via Kuala Lumpur to Singapore and they saw to it that my bed was near the door so I don't disturb my other room mates . My bed sheets and covers were very comforting . Surprise number two , we have our own clean and very nicely fitted comfort room in our room for five. Surprise #3 our individual cabinets and writing table is located dividing and giving privacy to each other space. And the breakfast included , hey am in a five star hotel . See you on the 26th to 29th of November and again and again . See you Filipino front desk staff , makes my stay more pleasant than it is already .
Affordable, clean, sufficient”
Considering the overall prices in Singapore Hangout @ Mt Emily is definitely a cheaper place than most of the others. It’s located on top of Mt Emily where there’s always a breeze (warm air though). Within 10-15 minutes walk from Little India and other places one can find souvenirs and tasty food. Be aware it is not a hotel but rather a lodge or even a youth hostel. We had plenty of young people around which is in general not a problem if they don’t yell and party until 3.00 AM. Nevertheless, the place is clean, staff is extremely helpful and friendly and if you need only a place to sleep then this place is OK. Though they also offer open areas to meet up, to chill and to relax. A common room is equipped with a TV and even with a coffee machine. That’s quite nice. Breakfast... continental (which continent?)... very basic, rather very disappointing I’d say. Toast, jam, chocolate cream (nutella), corn flakes, apples or banana, milk, tea, coffee and tiny cup cakes. All sweet! NO cheese,
Top pick for budget stay in Singapore”
I don't stay at hostels these days but having spent months travelling in Asia, the budget couldn't stretch to a high-priced hotel room in expensive Singapore. Hangout @ Mt Emily was an ideal solution. It's a very smart building in a lovely park location, stand outs being the dining area and rooftop terrace (check out the Singapore skyline from there at night). It feels much like a hotel but with dorms and communal facilities. Breakfast was tasty and excellent with tea, coffee, juice, toast and cereal every day, plus 3 or 4 hot dishes as well. A great and economical way to start the day. Wi-Fi worked OK, plus there are 6 PCs available to use at no cost. Self-serve laundry facilities available. I stayed in a dorm which was as expected, there was good luggage storage and a comfortable bed in a pod giving some welcome privacy. Building always very clean, despite some guests not keeping their part of the bargain....Will definitely come back here if in Singapore, either dorm or private room (a no brainere as compared to budget hotels).
No frills but all that you need and affordable”
Finding affordable accomodation in Singpore is not that easy. Hangout @ Mt Emily was exactly what we were looking for: affordable double room with window, centrally located, with wifi/ computer stations, possibilities to wash your laundry, clean, good beds, quiet, hot shower, helpful and friendly staff who can also help to book things, free coffee, nice roof terrace to relax, phone for free local calls. To get there you have to walk uphill for a little bit, however, that was absolutely no issue and very feasible. The one thing that can be improved, in my view, is the breakfast selection and the atmosphere in the breakfast room which I did not find great. A toast with jam gave some basis though to reach one of the many places in Singpore where one can get very nice food, though. Would recommend it to others, however, I believe they also have rooms without windows which I personally would try to avoid.
Enjoyable & comfortable stay”
Surprise to find the same hostel atmosphere in Hangout as the ones in Europe. If I have not booked another hotel before, I would love to stay in Hangout in my entire trip. The room is clean even it is very basic. Most important is the price. We spend just HK$1200 for a family room. HK$300 per person including the simple breakfast. Also, the hostel situated on Mt. Emily hill just above the Orchard Road. If you don't have much luggage, you can walk.
Great hotel for the visit ”
I was there at Hangout@ MT Emily with my two friends in October. We booked the twin plus room and was amazed by its nice design, comfortable bed and super friendly staff (as cost-saving as well). Though we need to climb up the mountain to get there but we do enjoy the park and its environment. Will come back next time.
Good place for someone who's out and about”
I'm a solo traveler who only really uses the hotel room for sleeping in as I'm always out and about. In that regard, the room is pretty good since it's very barebones (no TV or even a window to keep you occupied otherwise). It's also reasonably close to Dhoby Ghaut and Bras Basah MRT stations, about a 15 minute walk. Two caveats I had was that it was a bit of a trek up the hill in the humid Singapore weather (well it is called Hangout @ Mt Emily so I guess that was my own fault), and also I'm a bit of a light sleeper and I could hear people shuffling about and talking loudly at night in the hallway when trying to get some shuteye, but I brought earplugs for that. Anyways, all-in-all, can't really beat the price for the location.
My choice in Singapore”
Hangout @ Mt Emily has become my choice of stay in Singapore. The hotel (borders on the line of a hostel)is very basic but clean and well-maintained. Located just next to president Istana, Hangout @ Mt Emily is surrounded by a small beautiful park and quiet neighborhood. Plus, you may really hang out on the roof top garden of the hotel. The front desk was very friendly and helpful. Wifi speed is cool in common room.
yes lovely location staff always with a smile”
i loved my stay. no problem with early checkin and late check outs. staff is always ready to serve with a smile. i'll certainly go back to hangout@mt emily the next time im in singapore
I was staying in a female dormitory, with a private toilet attached to that dorm. The room is clean and tidy, with all the facilities needed are provided. Location wise, the hotel is located on Mt. Emily. It is located about 15 minutes walk from Dhoby Ghaut Station and Bras Basah Station Exit E, about 12 minutes from Little India Station. Therefore the location is very strategic for me, and it is very accessible to MRTs. However, it may be a little tiring for those who does not fancy walking much. They have awesome facilities where washing machines are provided, on top of that, a common room with TV, computers, coffees, books, magazines are provided as well. Apart from that, they have a look-up point at Level 7. It is really a great place to stay!
This is the nicest dorm I have ever stayed in and I've stayed in dorms in almost 30 countries. No bunks here...you get your own bed with a private lamp and closet that blocks out the other beds. Good air condo, very spacious locker, bathroom and shower in the room, clean and with great areas to hang out (rooftop patio, internet/gameroom, mt. Emily park across the street). Staff is very kind, close to Peace Food Court, and close between two train stations, including Little India. Only downsides: there are only two electrical outlets in the 6-room dorm, breakfast is not very healthy or vegetarian-friendly...fried rice had meat in it for example, only whole milk available, canned fruit. Lots more options, however, than most hostel breakfasts.
Value for the money and best in Singapore ”
I stayed at this place for a change after being bored with 5 star hotels where you are isolated in a room . I found Hangout @ Emily is a friendly environment amazingly guests who are in sharing rooms are decent and not disturbing unnecessarily . Would be great if the safety lockers has an option to switch to a silent mode so that others will not be disturbed with access code beeps ! No bunk beds is the best part .Overall my stay is pleasant and I look forward to stay again and again during my visits .
Home away from Home”
I have often stayed at Hangout@Mt Emily for its comfort and friendly staffs. But my last stay there was disappointing, aircondition was set at quite a high temperature and the room we first checked in was humid, stale and stuffy and there was no temp controller to be seen. My complaint was set right the next morning but still not as desired and my first night was most uncomfortable. For guests who felt cold, they could always ask for more blanket, but for guests who felt warm how do we cool ourselves ?? Maybe Hangout would think about this for the comfort of all ?
Excellent value for the price”
I loved my stay at this hotel. It turned to be exactly as advertised, and easily met my expectations. My only complaint (if one could call it that) is that it was hard to find. It's located at the summit of Mt. Emily, a bit off the beaten path, but once I located it (a daunting challenge for me on this trip - even the Cab Driver had some difficulty with this, too) I loved it. Great view! Once one knows one's way around, it's an easy walk (down semi-steep hills) to metro stations, food, etc. I recommend this place highly.
Lesser Breakfast Offering”
I've stayed at Hangout@Mt Emily a couple of times before this. The place is clean and neat, the location is good, and the place is fairly quiet. It sits on a hill, so it is away from the noise of the city. In the past, they used to have a good breakfast spread of hot food e.g. scrambled eggs, sausages, and beans, but they have discontinued this now, which is a pity. I now have a slightly different opinion of Hangout given this recent experience. FYI, we didn't bother with the next day's breakfast because it wasn't anything much.
