Very friendly family home
We stayed here for a visit to Peradeniya. From our brief chat on the phone to leaving, Hassan was so friendly and welcoming. He is a fascinating man with an incredible history in tourism and a fab storyteller! The house is close to the main bus route into and out of Kandy and there are several small shops nearby. Our room was clean and spacious with a lovely balcony overlooking the house and grounds. We took a three wheeler to peradeniya for very little and if it had been a little cooler you could easily walk. We ate dinner and breakfast here and both were delicious. Be sure to forewarn Hassan if you want to eat as he will need to go out and get ingredients. The price was very reasonable and the food delicious. The bathroom was ok but was quite damp and in need of a little Tlc. Overall a good stay with very friendly host.

Accommodations are faulty. Basic are not there, such as hot water, towels, soap. Mosquito proofing is inadequate.
Hanifass know was needs to be done to meet standards.

Come prepared and well-informed
Close to Kandy, to the Botanical Gardens, Good food
Room: even though the room has a flush toilet, the toilet is not flushing at all and becomes clogged with toilet paper (the smell quickly spreads in the room); you have to use a toilet hose instead of the toilet flush and so, the water is splashed all over; there is NO hot water, NO bed sheets (only a bed cloth that didn't seem to have been changed for a while and 2 pieces of fabric that can barely cover you - and we are pretty skinny; due to the fact that the nights were colder, I had to sleep in the only thick clothes I had, some pants and a leather jacket, because they didn't gave us proper covers); although the room is pretty large, the only furniture was the bed, a hanger and a mirror (?!..I would’ve preferred a table or a closet instead of that mirror); the bathroom lacked proper cleaning (the toilet, mostly); we had to ask for towels, soap and toilet paper; there were lots of mosquitoes, because of the open ventilation holes. Host: as we didn't have the chance to do a proper research before coming to Kandy and neither did we have a travel guide, for the first days we completely relied on the info that the host could give us. We had only 4 days to spend there and a lot to see and we needed proper time management. The host gave us few or wrong pieces of info. E.g., he didn't want to tell us the train/bus schedule (although we later found out that he knew it) in order that we would finally decide that it's easier to hire a car with a driver he knew (for a considerable amount of money). Didn't tell us the schedule for the Temple of the Tooth Relic - he wanted us to hire a tuktuk to take us around Kandy. Although we asked, he didn't want to tell us what the prices were for the meals we had. He only gave us a paper with the costs just before we left - and the prices for food were exaggerated (he had the same prices for breakfast or dinner as in a restaurant in Kandy City Center), he charged us for the wifi also.. Good: delicious food and close to Botanical Garden

Comfortable, friendly and simple
The service, the comfort of the bed/mosquito net, and the tranquil surroundings
The only thing I would suggest is some fly screens for the ventilation holes. I had a bee and a grasshopper that got in even though the door was closed. They were attracted to the light. There also should be a towel, soap and toilet paper in the rooms. But they were available upon request. Thanks for a relaxing stay.
