Exceptional”
Didn't aware that there is no signboard mentioned Happy Cape Hostel, so we were a bit confused at first. There are visible dust spotted in the room, guess the staff only clean the bedsheets and the floor, while leaving all decorations in dust. There is no response from the staff when I ask for WiFi at upper floor using wechat, so I have to use lower floor WiFi. For the price, it's worthy for a stay.

Good for the budget travellor”
It is about 15 to 20 minutes walk from Siziwan MRT station, which is the terminal station of the yellow line. As the Kaohsiung MRT is quite efficient, so you can reach other places of interest quite easily. However, you only need to walk from the hostel to Gushan Ferry Terminal to take the ferry if you want to go to Cijin Island. The old Takau British Consulate is also within walking distance (about half an hour to 45 minutes stroll). The hostel is an old building with no lift, so you got to be sure that you are able to walk up to the 4th or 5th floor, if you want to rent a single or double room. It is located next to the tunnel that leads to Sun Yat Sen University. There are many old residential and commercial properties around which give you a feel of the local way of life. There is even a wet market nearby at nearby Yanping Street. The ground floor of the hostel is a restaurant selling Italian food. 2nd and 3rd floors are dormitories. Single rooms are on the 4th floor while the 5th floor has one double room on one side and a balcony on the other side where you can hang your clothes to dry after washing. Hot and cold water are also available on the 5th floor, so you can brew your own tea or coffee...with teabags or coffee bags of course. The WIFI is good. There are enough shower rooms, all with hot water. A thick towel is provided. There are also shower and bath foam and a complimentary bottle of charcoal water. In the vicinity are lots of local restaurants and prices are reasonably cheap. All in all, it's not a bad place for the price.

The hostel was very clean especially about the toilets and shower space! You will get known that the staff clean everymorning to keep the cleanliness. A lot of restaurants, including local and burger shops nearby.beautiful land view from the 5th floor free space.Free laundry, amenity(consist of towl, water, shampoo, body soap, teeth brusher),walk just for few minutes from MRT.i love this hostel so much that I'll surely be back here if I take a trip to Kaohsiung next time!Thank you so much!

Not easy to find”
When I arrived at the location, I spent almost 20 minutes looking for this hostel. No signboard. No entrance door. Even the local people around that area don't know the hostel. Luckily, a university student points me to a restaurant nearby and help me ask the owner about that hostel. Then he gave me a phone number to call the hostel owner. The hostel is actually hidden above the restaurant. The entrance is near the kitchen, inside the restaurant. Even the entrance door looks like a wall (decorated with wallpaper). Oh my god!!! How the hell am I supposed to find it. About the hostel, location is great. Just a walkaway from Gushan Ferry Pier Station (ferry to Cijin Island). A little bit far from Sizihwan Station. There is a public bike station near the hostel. It’s free for the first 30 minutes. Most of the time during my stay here in Kaohsiung, I just use the public bike. Near to convenience store (Family Mart). The bed is comfortable. No bed curtain. A small locker to store your luggag

Facilities and location are excellent! Check in from 3pm and hostel is unattended most of the time, so you need to call if you arrive early. Entrance is inside a cafe but the cafe staff do not speak English and cannot assist with location

Budget room for couple. Worth it”
We book a double room on the 5th floor (topmost floor) for a night. The room is big and cozy, nice bed to sleep with private bathroom. Our room located next to public living room and public balcony where you can wash your clothes without any charge. From guesthouse, you can walk around and it's not far from station. Even you walk back on the night it's ok because you'll have some university students on the street. Remark • On the basement they sell fried chicken, it's smelly all inside the building. You might have problem if you stay on the 2nd-3rd floor. But on the 5th floor there is no problem. • We're lucky enough that on the day we stay, there is no people partying or talking loudly on the living room (which just next to our door). If we have bad luck, things must be different. • The staff is very nice. • You shall try Xiaolongbao restuarant on the way to MRT. It's good and cheap. Maybe our favorite Xiaolongbao in Taiwan :)

The hostel was hard to be found”
Need look for the signboard of Happy Cape Coffee & Pasta & Food instead of Happy Cape Hostel. However, you can still use the google map by entering Happy Cape Hostel to bring you there. Then, you need to call the phone number paste on the wall if the cafe is not open yet or closed on their off-day.

To be avoided.”
Fatigued, old hostel. I honestly don't know how this hostel pulled off such a high rating on Agoda. Located above a restaurant with a call on arrival check-in. Very basic facilities and beds. Toilets and showers not very clean. Electrical outlets near beds worn out. Strong smell of cheap toilet chemical cleaner in the corridors. The interior of the building has seen better days. Good location though, water and a little towel provided. Free toiletries.

Not bad for a private room”
The single room I had was an interior room with a window facing the kitchen. Still a good value for a private space.

nice location, Convenience ”
The location is near XiziWan Station by walking distance. It is above a restaurant which is close on day time. You can rent a bike & cycle nearby or take boat to Cijin Island. Price is average , acceptable . But seen like unorganized because we can't find the owner while check in. At the end is, a uncle help us to call the owner come down & check in for us.

Un-organzied ”
This place is good, just not the bed situation. I recommend staying in a smaller room than the 10 person because we had a bad situation of somebody taking one of our beds, and another guest claiming a bed they weren't actually going to use. Staff was never around to help with this. Ended up going into a different room with beds available, only to be awoken and told to move beds in the middle of the night. The girl who had claimed one of our beds proceeded to take her stuff off the bed. In sum, they need better organization to ensure this doesn't happen. Assign beds to guests! don't just make the dorms a free for all because it is disappointing when you booked a bed and one isn't available.

Dissapointing”
I was looking forward to this hostel as it located at sizhiwan river with a stunning view. Eventually the whole experience was quite dissapointing including. -Shared toilet at 1st, 2nd and 3rd Floor seems to be not well maintained. -There are no staff at all by the time we stay except by the time we check in. -The corridor light have to be turn on by ourself or else it will become very dark and creepy It just like no body ever cares how it guest will feel if whoever stay inside there.

It's just okay”
I stayed there for 4 nights and it was not a very good experience. I was first settled in a room on the third floor. When I was about to take a nap I heard the disturbing sound of the air conditioners outside so I asked to change the room and I had a new one. But on the second day when I came back one guest took my bed and my stuff was moved to the chairs. On the following day a housekeeper asked me to pay more since I used two other beds, which I did not. They were kind and helped me out sometimes though. This place is not well-organized. The biggest advantage is the location, which is next to the University tunnel and just takes a few steps to Sizihwan. .

It was a pleasant stay for us, room is clean, and even though they don't served breakfast, there are a lot of stalls and shops around where you can get cheap and nice breakfast.
