We ordered dinner less than 10 minutes before closing time but they were still happy enough to take our orders.

Great value for money”
At most Harold's Mansion is essentially a backpackers' hostel, catering to low-budget travelers like myself. The hostel is centrally located, making most sights in Dumaguete City within walking distance. There are tours readily available at the lobby, just ask the staff. The rooms are okay, with functional a/c and cable tv, however the bathroom locks were broken. There is a nice and homey rooftop, which is like a common area good for meeting people, equipped with a small bar and garden, hammocks and snooker table. The free breakfast is actually some bread and rice cakes and coffee, which isn't bad, given the price. The staff were not very friendly and seemed to be unhappy, however they were accommodating with our requests. I would stay here again as this place is great value for money!
Best Budget Option in Dumaguette”
Harold's is a great option for travelers who are extremely budget conscious. If you consider yourself a part of the "backpacker" set and are able to handle modest yet comfortable accommodations, then this place might be for you. It definitely has more of a "hostel" vibe than a hotel, and the rooms certainly aren't fancy, but for the price, it's probably the best you'll do in Dumaguete and is still far from roughing it. The hotel is not directly in the heart of the action, but is only about 5 minute walk from the main shopping/restaurant district so the location is good. The double aircon room we stayed in was well appointed - the bed was comfortable, the shower had both hot & cold water, and although ventilation wasn't optimal, with the A/C on, the room smelled fine and wasn't clammy. We slept well, although the higher up you are, the better, as the streets of Dumaguete can be LOUD and there is a constant roar of trikes, no matter the time of day. Food at the cafe was adequate (though the free breakfast is little more than bread + tea), and the free wifi was some of the fastest you are likely to experience in the Philippines. Another nice thing about Harold's is that they organize many trips and sightseeing outings to surrounding areas, and even have an affiliated dive shop. They can also organize motorcycle rentals at a competitive rate, though the earlier you reserve a bike, the better! If you're looking for a cheap place to lay your head at night and aren't expecting luxury accommodation, Harold's will likely fit the bill. The atmosphere is pretty lively, the staff are generally helpful, and the rooms are clean. What more could you want?
Solid budget option for backpackers”
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Harold's so much that when our travel plans in Negros brought us back to Dumaguete for one night, we chose to stay here a second time. We found that for the price, the location and amenities on offer could not be beat! The rooms are comfortable - if not particularly high end - and the staff are quite helpful and friendly (the girl working the front desk remembered us from our earlier stay a few week's earlier!). I maintain that the Harold's is best approached as a hostel rather than a hotel in order to avoid any misconceptions. If we had any issues with our stay, it was simply that the wifi wasn't really working for a large portion of the evening, but that is hardly a dealbreaker! If you're in need of a cheap play to lay your head at night and are also interested in a place that can help you arrange sightseeing trips around Dumaguete, Harold's is a great choice.
the mansion is the place to be”
It is the place to be in Dumaguete was there for 12 days so got to know everybody quite well lot of 1 night backpackers so Interesting groups coming through. up top on the roof is the restaurant an the girls Roselyn and Emily do a great job the breakfast is a Filipino style but very good. rooms are good size with hot water an cold air con. Guys if you like girls Silliman university is only a block away so hundreds of girls an all friendly just smile. Harold has the dive shop there a I recommend you go diving with them. Apo island is great lots of cool fish to see. So if you want good cheap fun Harold's is the place to be.
Old building charm but great to meet new people”
Staying at Harold's Mansion was good. I'm not a picky traveler. As long as I can sleep well, eat well and prepare well for planned trips, I'm good. One thing I liked about staying at Harold's Mansion is that you get to meet different fellow travelers at their rooftop bar/restaurant. The food was okay and quite inexpensive. They have free Filipino breakfast which was good for me. There was a man singing and playing his guitar at one night and it created such a nice ambiance or feel at the rooftop bar where some are listening and some are busy chatting away. Overall it was good though the building needs to be improved as it's quite old and the service could get better. That's all. Thank you!
Staffs were accommodating. Location is ideal for travellers. Amenities could be better”
It was SULIT! Imagine you get a double room with airconditioning and free breakfast, coffee, and tea for under 1000 pesos!!! The place has a lot of potential to be one of the best inns in the city. They just need to fix old amenities, complete finishing works or do a repainting to make it look new and develop the rooftop even more (because, personally, it was the best part of the mansion). The location is in the heart of downtown so if we wanted to explore the city, we can just walk to get to places. So if you want to visit Dumaguete and you’re on a tight budget, definitely book this place! You get more from what you paid for.
nice and friendly staff...”
...nothing much more to say...hotel staff(s) are nice, always wear that sweet smile...whenever you ask something to/from them....truly dumaguete is a land of gentle people... hotel location is around 500-600m to/from the port...and boulevard where you can have your food trip... 'til next time dumaguete...'til next time harolds mansion... maraming salamat po sa inyo....
Best offer for Apo Island snorkeling and/or diving.”
If your main agenda is going to Apo Island. Harold's Mansion offers their own snorkeling/diving packages complete with snorkeling and diving gears together with round trip land and boat transfers from the hotel, to the island and back to the hotel. Their packages include free snacks, coffee and tea on board the boat besides the free lunch; payment for the diving guides are also included. Not to mention all the staff of the boat are friendly, accommodating and respectful. Comparing Harold's Mansion's offer for diving/snorkeling with the "do-it-yourself", is pretty much the same when it comes to pricing, however when you get it from Harold's it's hassle free: no stress in travelling to the island and back since they have coaster rides or mini-buses. When it comes to the rooms, Harold's Mansion is very affordable. Facilities are a bit old and fairly clean, and the CRs in the rooms get clogged easily. Don't expect luxury here. But the staff are very friendly and reliable.
Nice place to stay in Dumaguete”
I stayed one night in this great hotel. Everything was as expected. Discovered that Harold's Mansion organizes different kinds of day-trips to Negros area. Visited twin lakes and Cesaroro falls through them. Recommend! I booked through Agoda, but the prices were the same if I had just showed up in the hotel. Breakfast was continental, so expect to have 2 toasts and little bit of jelly.
GREAT Location; No fuss stay!”
First of all the location is perfect! It was near everything! You can walk to the famous tourist spots from the hostel or if your too tired to walk you can ride a tricycle for only ₱8 minimum fare. Restaurants are abundant around the area so food will never be a problem. The hostel also has there own Dive Center downstairs where you can book your tours to Apo Island, etc. Very convenient to travelers! The room is great! Everything you need is there – comfortable bed, fully functioning aircon, tv with cable channels, hot shower & toilet. Only downside is no WiFi in rooms. You need to go to the lobby or rooftop (I think) to connect to the internet. The staff were very accommodating so no problem in there. I really think Harold's Mansion is a fantastic place to stay if you're looking for a decent place to stay with the right amenities and perfect location on a budget!
Quick stay is ok”
We were supposed to be a group of 5 turned 4. We booked in advance 2 rooms at Harold's Mansion. It was just an overnight stay before we depart for Siquijor. It is ok for a quick stay but you can look for better options in the area at a slightly higher price. PROS: - Cheap stay with free towel and toilet paper. - Own CR, shower with hot water - free basic breakfast (either pandesal bread or sticky rice) - unlimited water and coffee - Location is good: Near restaurants (you can walk to Silliman area), nearby local/sari-sari stores or even internet shops; 10-15minutes away the airport via Tricycle; 5-minutes away Sibulan Port via Tricycle; beside Harold’s Diving Center which provides tour to Apo Island - You can rent a bike. CONS: - No free shampoo or soap, just buy outside - Should have free wifi but connection not good - Staff friendliness can be improved, kinda snobby when we arrived - If you are more into aesthetic room or hotel with good restaurant, this is not the place
Good location and very affordable price!”
Dive shops downstairs and laundry shop across the street. Walking distance to the pier. The private room is spacious and mine comes with a door to the balcony. WiFi only in the lobby and the rooftop restaurant but it would not be a problem if you have cellar connection. Breakfast is plain. Only toast/bread with jam & coffee or tea but I couldn't complain with the price I paid. Oh, the staffs were very helpful and responsive so I really enjoyed my stay there. In general, I think I would definitely recommend Harold's Mansion to budget travelers!
Helpful staff and accessible location”
2nd time to stay at Harold's. 1st time was in June 2017 with a friend in a twin room (with 2 single beds), which was more spacious but located on the 3rd floor. 2nd time was in January 2018 with my partner, in a Deluxe room with a queen-sized bed on the 2nd floor. Aside from its value for money, we liked its location which is an 8-peso-per-person tricycle ride from just about anywhere in town (30 pesos per person from the airport). Harold's Dive Center is also just downstairs so the 6:45am call time for the Apo Island Daytour is not a hassle. The staff was really helpful - provided our requested pail and dipper and rags for our dripping clothes; and accommodating to our numerous questions (where to eat, what to ride, what to do). Will book again. For improvement: ACU in our room took a while to cool; can add more sockets for charging of gadgets: comfort room is small; can provide a rack to hang clothes for drying (though there is a laundry shop just across).
Nice and Very accommodating staffs”
We arrived 9pm in dumaguete as we came all over from oslob and the receptionist was very much willing to assist us thru phone since we were just DIY travellers and will just be commuting. everything is ok but we appreciate their effort to extend help.. everyone is nice. maybe that is the custom in dumaguete i guess. very gentle and nice people. Breakfast was alright. sticky rice top with hot choco and a coffee. room is alright. big enough for the both of us.
Great place for backpackers”
Harold's is a great place to stay in Dumaguete. The room is spacious and clean. The AC worked great. My only complaint is that the bathroom door can only open at a 45 degree angle because it bumped up against the toilet, very poor design. The people are great. If you want to meet other backpackers then this is the place to be. I extended my stay for an additional day. I would definitely stay here again. Highly recommended.
Pros - very affordable, free breakfast, location is 20 min from Dumaguete airport and Sibulan port, rooms are basic but clean and spaceous enough, has a dive shop so you can take tours directly from them, water dispenser available on all floors. Cons - they asked me to leave an ID when borrowing hangers. I accidentally left it with them upon check out but their receptionist was kind enough to get it shipped to me.
Great dive shop and super lovely staff!”
Harold’s is the first to pop up in your Dumaguete google search for a reason! We had a wonderful stay here. The room was simple and at times the AC was a little vocal - but the common area on the roof was magic! The staff in the kitchen and garden were particularly lovely. The dive shop down stairs is the best asset - we took their Apo diving tour, which has been a highlight from our Philippines adventure!
Would have been better if we were told the first time we arrive that we need to pick the towel at the reception and deposit ID as most hotels already provides the included toiletries in the room. Free breakfast is only sticky rice (suman), bread, coconut jam and Hot chocolate made from tablea 💜 We thought that it is usual breakfast rice meal, but it isn't. However, food is great! And they only allow you to eat at the rooftop. Unfortunately, wifi is only available atthe lobby and rooftop though data connection is fine when you are in the room. Room - totally big for two people. TV has cable channels, aircon is good, there's a menu folder of food available at the room too. Staffs are very friendly and attentive. Distance to downtown are quite near if you are looking for a walking distance hotel. 10-15mins from hotel to Rizal Boulevard and Dumaguete Port. Overall stay, good 👍🏻
A perfect place for diving aficionados!”
When we first arrived we are amazed on the number of foreigners staying in this hotel. The hotel has a pool table and a nice bar at the roof deck. The rooms are tidy and a bed is big enough for 2 people. They also offer package tour on the diving spots (with trainers) in Dumaguete. If this is your first time to dive, this place can be a good training ground. The package tour has included a sandwich for lunch. You can choose from tuna or chicken however if you prefer to eat rice I suggest that you pack your own lunch.
Eclectic and very good for very little money”
Ok not the 4 Seasons and far from it but 3 beds with very good air conditioning for a few pennies over $26 USD a night. The rooftop is really cool with Harold's garden going on and with a free pool table. Surprised I didn't see one bug at anytime while there. If you live here you'll know, the Phils are full of ants and mosquitoes. The breakfast ... just order off the menu. Didn't like the bathroom because when you took a shower it soaked the whole bathroom floor. Also soap and towels shouldn't be such a hassle. We had some good food items Pantiere Schnitzel, very crispy fried chicken, chow fan and the omelette wasn't bad. The Kinilaw ( Filipino Cerviche ) would be better with far less CHUNKS of ginger and the requisite coconut milk. With these prices and Harold's style, not to mention the interesting crowd this place draws I would definitely, DEFINITELY STAY HERE AGAIN.
