Passport held hostage for towels....breakfast was some strange joke”
I don't often leave bad reviews. But here is one. Booked through Agoda. My partner asked front desk staff for 2 towels as none supplied in room (despite checking in after 5pm) and she was required to deposit a passport for the use of 2 crummy towels. FFS really?? Insulting. Breakfast included. This is an abuse of the word. Some bucket of coffee powder and another of creamer. A bucket of yesterday's rice and some bread rolls. Not even margarine or jam. Definitely not worth the walk up the stairs. However, on a positive note, the rooftop is cool and has potential. Good range of drinks/ beers at good prices. Room is dated like the rest of the place. In need of renovations. Compared to White Knights at the same price no wonder rooms are usually fully booked there. Aircon worked fine and pillows are good and bed is a little short. I'm not going to surrender my passport to use a towel again. Better pay a couple hundred more and get something nice or OK Pension gives you towels no worries!!
I booked a room for my friends and they had a great time at Harold's Mansion. They particularly liked the proximity of the property to the city. It's accessible to almost everything. The staff are receptionist are very friendly. The rooftop garden is also a plus. They had a great time.
Convenient location, clean facilities, POOR a/c and WiFi ”
Super convenient location makes using tricycles a breeze. Bathroom was also the cleanest I’ve experienced in this price range. BUT a/c was terrible, didn’t blow at all no matter how high it was set (100x worse than having a fan), and could never connect to WiFi. Also Globe 3G signal was extremely spotty.
Staff not welcoming and no smiling, damp and smelly room, WiFi available only in reception or at the rooftop. Good things: the rooftop, breakfast included, but above all you can book with them very convenient and interesting tours.
Best offer for Apo Island snorkeling and/or diving.”
If your main agenda is going to Apo Island. Harold's Mansion offers their own snorkeling/diving packages complete with snorkeling and diving gears together with round trip land and boat transfers from the hotel, to the island and back to the hotel. Their packages include free snacks, coffee and tea on board the boat besides the free lunch; payment for the diving guides are also included. Not to mention all the staff of the boat are friendly, accommodating and respectful. Comparing Harold's Mansion's offer for diving/snorkeling with the "do-it-yourself", is pretty much the same when it comes to pricing, however when you get it from Harold's it's hassle free: no stress in travelling to the island and back since they have coaster rides or mini-buses. When it comes to the rooms, Harold's Mansion is very affordable. Facilities are a bit old and fairly clean, and the CRs in the rooms get clogged easily. Don't expect luxury here. But the staff are very friendly and reliable.
Great Place To Stay”
We checked in with my family and they were able to accommodate our request to get 2 beds. Room was clean and AC functioning well. There was a water heater as well. Soap and shampoo was in a dispenser which is totally fine to minimize garbage. Their rooftop was excellent for hangout. It's full of plants grown organically. Very refreshing to be in. Highly recommending to everyone unless if you are looking for high end hotel.
Good option for Dumaguete”
This isn't a fancy hotel but it is good value for money, has an excellent rooftop restaurant and good location for the city centre and seaport. Harold himself is always around, very friendly and helpful with local information. He also arranged a boat for us to Apo Island. Harold's Dive Centre in the building offers great diving trips.
We had a hassle-free stay in Harolds Mansion. The staffs were very accommodating and I love their free Filipino breakfast that includes sticky rice. ❤️ They also offer Apo Island tour which is really worth it! (Free meals, free transfers and expert guides)
Good location but ensure regular Cleanîng ”
Overall good Location to many places in town. Cons : A) Fans are very DUSTY.(big dust ) especially in roof top rooms . B) Hot shower HeaterNot functioning at all . Asking around various staff they say broken for month and no body tried to reset it or to repair iir or change it. C)Why not make shower room available to both genders (I.e: female shower room available to male use as well ) till male shower room has Irs own water heater is either repaired or replaced . A good location but can do better by continuously monitoring hygiene and repairing or replacing broken or Faulty equipment D) free breakfast should be either removed or improved to make available eggs at least or charge few extra pesos in room price and provide better free breakfast
Great staff, very friendly and helpful. Loved the upstairs garden and Pilipino breakfast. Was a bit of a walk to most things but central enough. I loved the walk into the market and along the beach. Thank you for your generosity. Internet not in all rooms but many hotspots especially on the roof.
Useless Shower and TV”
Shower just trickled water. Impossible to use. Can barely sit on the toilet as thereis not enough space for your legs. Bring your own toiletries including soap. None provided. TV had HBO only and it was always disrupted.. either the video image or the sound so useless to try and watch. Staff were very nice however ☺
Cheap place and Near from everything”
You can avail their tour packages and scuba diving package is also available next door. Free breakfast is okay, yet i prefer to buy the meal at cheaper price. 👌 Staff is very accomodating and easy for us to check-in.
Staffs were accommodating. Location is ideal for travellers. Amenities could be better”
It was SULIT! Imagine you get a double room with airconditioning and free breakfast, coffee, and tea for under 1000 pesos!!! The place has a lot of potential to be one of the best inns in the city. They just need to fix old amenities, complete finishing works or do a repainting to make it look new and develop the rooftop even more (because, personally, it was the best part of the mansion). The location is in the heart of downtown so if we wanted to explore the city, we can just walk to get to places. So if you want to visit Dumaguete and you’re on a tight budget, definitely book this place! You get more from what you paid for.
value for money”
location is okay but room cannot access wifi.
Would like to come back”
Here everything was OK but some stuffs were rude and unrespectful. I like the room and location. The price was very reasonable. But I won't order any food on the proof.
Great dive shop and super lovely staff!”
Harold’s is the first to pop up in your Dumaguete google search for a reason! We had a wonderful stay here. The room was simple and at times the AC was a little vocal - but the common area on the roof was magic! The staff in the kitchen and garden were particularly lovely. The dive shop down stairs is the best asset - we took their Apo diving tour, which has been a highlight from our Philippines adventure!
We enjoyed the stay very much. The best thing is the terrace with a view over the city, full of plants (including a small "herb garden"), where you can have breakfast and dinner. They cook well, and offer a fern salad! In our room, there was free shampoo and soap. Ask for the towels directly at the reception, they are not in the rooms (but they provide them). The receptionist was helpful with advising us where is the bus stop to San Jose (intersection of Aldecoa Dr and Negros South Road) to get to Twin lakes (we did a self-organized half-day trip), which we highly recommend. The other staff was very polite. We went with Harold´s also to Apo island and it was amazing - everything very well organized, we got our own snorkelling guide for the 2 of us (he was very funny :-) ), the boat was big and we felt safe all the time, we enjoyed the food (the portions were big) and the corals and sea turtles were wonderful! We would definitely come and stay again!
Quick stay is ok”
We were supposed to be a group of 5 turned 4. We booked in advance 2 rooms at Harold's Mansion. It was just an overnight stay before we depart for Siquijor. It is ok for a quick stay but you can look for better options in the area at a slightly higher price. PROS: - Cheap stay with free towel and toilet paper. - Own CR, shower with hot water - free basic breakfast (either pandesal bread or sticky rice) - unlimited water and coffee - Location is good: Near restaurants (you can walk to Silliman area), nearby local/sari-sari stores or even internet shops; 10-15minutes away the airport via Tricycle; 5-minutes away Sibulan Port via Tricycle; beside Harold’s Diving Center which provides tour to Apo Island - You can rent a bike. CONS: - No free shampoo or soap, just buy outside - Should have free wifi but connection not good - Staff friendliness can be improved, kinda snobby when we arrived - If you are more into aesthetic room or hotel with good restaurant, this is not the place
Nice and Very accommodating staffs”
We arrived 9pm in dumaguete as we came all over from oslob and the receptionist was very much willing to assist us thru phone since we were just DIY travellers and will just be commuting. everything is ok but we appreciate their effort to extend help.. everyone is nice. maybe that is the custom in dumaguete i guess. very gentle and nice people. Breakfast was alright. sticky rice top with hot choco and a coffee. room is alright. big enough for the both of us.
Pros - very affordable, free breakfast, location is 20 min from Dumaguete airport and Sibulan port, rooms are basic but clean and spaceous enough, has a dive shop so you can take tours directly from them, water dispenser available on all floors. Cons - they asked me to leave an ID when borrowing hangers. I accidentally left it with them upon check out but their receptionist was kind enough to get it shipped to me.
