No frills, deserted location”

The Tropical Winds apartment is located about one hour drive from downtown Barbados. Expect to pay USD 30-35 for a taxi one way. The hotel provides basic, clean rooms and a pool which is about 4m x 6m. Unfortunately the place is in such a deserted location that not a single restaurant nor bar can be found within 15 minutes walking distance. This wouldn't be a problem except management sometimes simply decides to "not serve lunch in the restaurant" due to the low number of guests. Frankly, management seems to be quite ignorant of customer's wants and needs in general. The rooms include a kitchenette with refrigerator, a few dishes pots and pans but no cleaning equipment for dishwashing (e.g. brush or sponge). Nonetheless the expectation is that the guests do their own dishwashing, how exactly eludes me. The reception hosts a library with about 150 DVD movies that can be borrowed free of charge together with a DVD player that attaches to the in-room television. Internet access is available for USD 5.00/hr. There are no larger package deals available, eg. if you want 24 hrs access you will have to pay USD 120 per day, effectively doubling the room rate. Checkout is at 11pm. There is a late checkout fee of USD 25 PER HOUR which applies regardless of whether the hotel is fully booked. If checking out after 1pm the full room rate of the following day applies, rather than a late checkout fee. Unfortunately the management of the place leaves the impression that making a quick buck on extras is a much higher priority rather than providing good customer services. I have personally spoken to the acting manager regarding above points and rather than taking action or even acknowledging the situation she simply hid behind policies and procedures .
