Comfortable overnight stay from greymouth-wanaka”
We travelled com greymouth and stayed in haast as we didn't want to travel through the haast pass in the dark. There is really nothing in Haast but the hotel, a petrol station and a cafe which was closed at 10am the next morning. The room was freezing even with the heater in, though the staff promptly supplied us with smaller heaters. The food at the restaurant was great. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Excellent”
It's a nice hotel located in serene surroundings. The in house cafe and kitchen had limited food particularly vegetarian options. The hard antler cafe in the town is highly recommended for dinner. Whilst in Haast watching Sun set from nearby beach was an amazing experience.
Haast to Jackson's Bay”
There are many great activities within an hour of Haast. This was a comfortable easy to use hotel for accessing them all. Stress free
The most ineptly named hotel on the planet”
There was absolutely no warning that the "World Heritage Hotel" is nothing of the sort. It is a cheap, naff motel - the same as thousands of other motels in New Zealand: soulless, unimaginative, unfriendly and anonymous. On top of that: bad, over-priced food, served by permanently grumpy waitress. And as far as the 'city of Haast' is concerned: Haast is not a city. It's not even a village. Apart from a garage, a visitors centre, a cafe nearby, and this monstrosity of a fake American motel, there is literally NOTHING there. Well, there is a huge, beautiful beach. But keep in mind that in Haast it rains more than anywhere else in the world. There is a TV in each room, but the receptionist could not even be bothered to look up a TV guide for us on the internet: "I wouldn't know where to look" was her comment. Fire her. There was one member of staff, though, who was very friendly. Even he was surprised to see us turn up for breakfast: "You guys must really like Haast." Believe me, I don't. The only reason we stayed was that everywhere else was fully booked.
Not to recommend ”
Nothing special here , hotel not very clean and the only facility is a restaurant . Rooms very small . Anyway in Haast , nothing charming , nothing to see , nothing to do .
Excellent”
The hotel staff is really helpful. We arrived very later, almost to 9pm. The reception staff proactively asks if need dinner and their restaurant is closing in 5 minutes. She directly calls the restaurant saying hotel guests will be arriving in a while and keep the kitchen open. That's a very impressive experience, especially when there's lots of restaurants and shops already closed at that time. Car parking in front of the hotel room is very nice. Room and toilet have everything you needed, like tea, coffee, chocolate powder, toiletries and etc.
Stopover ”
We're on the way from west coast to queens town so Haast is the good place to stay! Hotel is at good location, but the room is very small and has no fridge.
Nice but needs more amenities.”
Lovely hotel, rooms were a bit noisy due to neighbours and a toaster would have been a helpful option as we had to have breakfast from hotel or not eat. A screen door would be super helpful to keep us cool at night without being eaten by sand flies.
Hi Lauren, Thank you for taking the time to place feedback on your recent stay with us here at the Heartland World Heritage Hotel. I do apologise for the noise from neighbouring rooms. We have been looking into screen doors but have been advised that with the amount of use of the sliding door that this would not be a visible option, we are now looking at screens on our windows instead. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay in NZ, wishing you safe travels, Kindest regards Tracey Dinan General Manager
Disappointed ”
No fridge in booked unit but it was changed to a lesser unit that did have one. Shower rose was faulty. The place was run down. I would have been better to bypass Haast
Excellent”
Lovely staff welcomed us. Big clean room. Beautiful place to watch the sunset with the mountains directly behind. Amazing skies at night. Quiet and comfortable. TV with 4 channels plus free unlimited WiFi. Good shower pressure. The place is a bit run down with a deserted motel vibe and a small old play area. A toaster would've been helpful, as would have a microwave.
Hi Vanessa Wow what a wonderful review, waht a pleasure to read that you enjoyed your stay with us. As we have our own restaurant open for meals we do not have any cooking items in our rooms, but it is an idea with toasters that I will look into. Kindest regards Tracey Dinan General Manager
Tired motel in remote location”
Checkin was excellent, girl gave us some good advice about where to visit. It is am aged tired motel but the room was very clean. Tea/coffee making facilities. We entered the room through sliding doors, there was also a corridor, which was useful in the rain. Umbrellas were provided. We visited during low season, there was nowhere else to eat so we had their dinner buffet. There was very little choise and I think at $20 was expensive for what we had. There was also a breakfast buffet, juice, cerials, tinned fruit, toast and jam, honey. Not sure what the price was.
Beautiful ”
It’s a beautiful hotel I only have 1 bad point is that the heater not very good Everything else was wonderful
Good morning Bernard, Thank you for taking the time to pace feedback on your recent stay with us in Haast NZ. Great to read you enjoyed your time here at the Heartland Hotel Haast. Heaters on are on our list for future upgrades. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your visit on the West Coast Kindest regards Tracey Dinan General Manager
seen better days”
A little bit of an oasis on the way from Fox Glacier venturing south towards Wanaka/Queenstown without a lot of obvious competition nearby. Still it was warm, dry and quiet. Staff were nice enough and the price was acceptable.
Nice Hotel but no supermarket nearby the hotel”
Nice Hotel but no supermarket nearby the hotel. Just only one restaurant in the hotel.
good accomodation, great bar and restaurant”
Well-located break on a long drive. (Beware no cell coverage between Fox and Makarora) Wifi here though,(NZ$10 for 24hrs) and great food and drink Friendly and helpful staff and locals. Rooms simple but functional and clean. TV choice limited.
Good location but a bit old”
the hotel is at good location. car park is just in front of the room, very convenient. plenty spacein the room. but the hotel is a bit old, both doors are stiff, need some maintenance.
Nice hotel”
warmly welcomed. heating was not on when we arrived but was quickly turned on upon request. comfortable beds and great showers
Average hotel, over priced for what it was!”
Small rooms, no aircon, no screens so you could not leave the windows open and the room was really hot with the afternoon sun on it. Cafe meals were really overpriced and one of our meals went back twice, the meals were only average but with a high end price, the chicken parmagama was a frozen piece of processed chicken and just salsa and a processed cheese square on top.... $25 meal really only worth a pub price of $10 tops, the $30 steak was only worthy of pub price meal of $12.... very expensive for what it really was! Internet was charged too.... considering you dont have cooling or even a refrigerator in your room.... you would think that perhaps they would give you free wifi, but every little thing cost extra.... I would not stay there again. Way overpriced for what it was!
Very good”
The room was light and a good size with large windows. Unfortunately the windows faced the bedroom across the lawn without net curtain or something similar so there was no privacy at all unless the main curtains were drawn. Think carefully before eating at their restaurant/ cafe in the evening
Remotely located modern motel with good facilities”
The motel is quite remotely located: we stayed there en route between the west coast after seeing Franz Josef and Fox Glacier and going on to Lake Wanaka. It is fairly modern and the rooms were comfortable. There was also a very nice bar and restaurant, with very friendly and helpful staff.
